This isn't actually portraying the Battle of the Wilderness, we're just demonstrating to the public what combat would be like if the two opposing armies met each other on the field of battle.
Also, us westerners are far more historically accurate than most eastern groups believe it or not!
Because there are so few reenactors here in Washington, we can't afford to be super picky about period correctness...everything's quite casual. There is a total of maybe about 200-300 military reenactors here, some even from Oregon and Idaho. We don't just want to blow stuff up, we have a love for history, just like you do. We just may not go to such extents to be period.
I see very litte reenactor farb, it only comes out after 5:00 pm, i'm part of this group, i wans't at this one tho... :( I resent all of the remarks about westerners, i happen to be one!
Really you see nothing farby about this supposed depictment of the battle of the Wilderness? Not even the fact there are several shots of a Marine unit on the field? At the Wilderness.....but I guess it brings up the whole theory of if they had em they'd have used them right? "If the Marines were there they would have been used so its okay!"
Wow this is the farbiest thing ever, there were people wearing sunglasses and a number of women, they didn't even try to hide the hair! One guy even bloused his trousers. ha ha ha ha farbs
well, blousing trouses comes and goes as a trend. a while ago, everyone did it. contemporary art from the time indicates they did but i haven't seen any period photos that suggest it.
Cool! I found this video by accident. I was delighted to see that it was a re-enactment of the Battle of the Wilderness. I had an ancestor who was wounded in that battle, and later died from the infection. He is now buried at Arlington Cemetry. Thanks for the video.
