It's still supposed to appear grotesque and trite. It's beautiful in that it's fascinating to watch, but it should be disturbing; but for this very reason the film should be revered as one of the best of all time. The Grid is my very favorite Philip Glass piece; I even arranged a distorted electric guitar part, most of which consists of double handed hammer ons and pull offs
Personally, I prefer to go to a modern art museum and stare at the large blank painting with a spot in the center. When I do, the meaning of life comes into focus. Perhaps I am unique, but this sort of stuff gives me a headache after a minute or two. I feel like I'm in the middle of Clockwork Orange with my eyelids taped open, having nonsense being drilled into my brain. Just because you tag Francis Ford Coppola's name to something doesn't make it great. To each his own. I prefer Ken Burns docs.
@thursdayschildonline it's art, not a documentary. And by the way, it's should feel that way. As a musician, I balked at first, but It haunted me in a way that will earn my respect for life; that's the way it SHOULD affect you. Ken Burns is good, but that's like comparing apples to oranges
boys with hot dogs girls with twinkies? The end scenes are from "The Ghost Panel", Barrier Canyon, Utah. a 2 hour walk after a 30 mile dirt road, East of Hanksville, Ut and not too far from Robbers Roost.
