7:40 -- Seeing all of Kasparov's pieces squeezed into a corner reminds me of the Karpov vs. Kasparov game at Linares in 1993, where Kasparov forced all of Karpov's pieces onto the first rank.
This couldn't have been Kasparov playing black. I bet some guy kidnapped the real Kasparov, hid him in a closet, then proceeded to play this game for him. The real Kasparov is too brilliant to lose.
wow this game was truely beautiful, i have no clue how accurate everything was but for me it looked brilliant... i love this game... it reminds me when i started playing chess someone doubled my pawns and my bishops were paralyzed i thought it was coincidence but maybe that player was verry smart i now think in review. verry good commentary by the way
Ivanchuk ranks among the most purely creative players in the entire history of chess. His opening innovations and discoveries are monuments to genius.
I've never seen Kasparov treated like that. I would love to read Ivanchuck's thoughts on this game. And Kasparov's as well. Great game. Thanks for posting.
I love the concepts in this game. I really liked how he blocked the queen counter attack with the rook. I loved the idea of reducing the opponent moves to a maximum so they can't create anything. There is a point one can actually count the only moves K can make. Excellent job! That was probably the only way to beat K at the time.
Amazing game! Kasparov didn't have any counterplay and after c5 it's already over. I'm wondering: where did Kasparov go wrong? Are there any improvements for black?
Quite possibly my favourite game of all time. Such precise, ruthless and unorthodox play which results in a complete humiliation of perhaps the greatest chess player of all time.
That is one brilliant game by Ivanchuk. I have never seen Kasparov so amazingly outplayed. Such an innovative opening idea, and to my mind forcing a re-enactment of the Knight v Bishop argument.
White accepts the Rook, so it begs the question, why did Black offer it? The answer is the c2 square. After the Rook is captured Black played 23...Rc2 and he now has an unstoppable mate threat of his own. (24.d5 does create complications, but Black is still well on his way to victory.)
Yes, that's kind of my point. Posting it "because it looks good" is not what we're doing, it's an instructive counterattack and to do this an imaginative tactical shot is required.
First thing i'd like to say, is great game. But am i missing something? Because i don't see the checkmate at the end. Couldn't black move Bishop to H6 to block the Rook? I mean, black would still be defeated, but the movie doesn't end with checkmate, am i missing something?
wow. i have never seen a game where black was so thoroughly emasculated. i love it at 7:11, all of black's pieces are on the last rank with the king in front!
Wow... probably the best game I've ever seen so far. That was amazingly thought and planned straight from the beginning. Truly incredible video, thanks!
I remember looking at this game and thinking that Ivanchuk made Kasparov look like a patzer. A very strange game. And what a start of a brilliant tourney for Ivanchuk.
Awesome!! i love it. thank you for your great commentaries and for putting up all these sweet games:) It is inspiring and makes me want to play chess! peace!
Wow, that a fantastic game -- perhaps even more amazing if you consider that Kasparov is the one being manhandled. Very good commentary as well: keep up the good work!
amazing just amazing, i have been playing chess just for a bit now, i have even started to upload some of my blitz games but wow i have never seen something so amazing
What's the antidote for Black from White's simple plan? Seems like the problem starts with the f6 exchange that damages Black's pawn structure. So how to prevent that since a fast 8.Bg5 doesn't allow Black to play ..g6 and ..Bg7 in time. Is 7...Nxd7 instead of 7...Bxd7 the answer?
i think if black had not taken the pawn sacrifice with the rook it might have gave black a mating chance but still very hard. Maybe Kasparov had a bad day.
"Kasparov completely obliterated!" Lmfao!!!!

Great game! I really enjoy your commentary, and I've subscribed.
Also, it wasn't quite mate yet; there was ...Bh6 and then Rxh6#.

'obliterated' is absolutely the correct term. Kasparov was totally humiliatd by the brilliant Ivanchuk.

rook h4 aint mate yet, becuz bishop can come to h6 and afrer rook or queen takes, its a mate

this looks like a dad-son game lol
complete domination... brutal
chrism216 2 years ago 3
Technically, that's not mate, but forced mate left in one move. In the final position shown above, ....Bh5 delays mate for one more move.

i'm not sure exactly where he went wrong, but it definitely had to do with the pawn structure he ended up with in the early middle game

But no matter what K did after I offered the pawn with c5, the c4 square was opened for the knight. That's the key.
