im so glad one of my favorite bands' new music isnt a far cry from their original + older material. i fucking love in flames. their musicianship has evolve to a supreme level. they're showing up alot of other metal bands with this album
I'll just need to say I agree with the top shelf simile from jct! I f'ing love it!! Saw the link on Wellfeartv's channel. Keep that spirit going, for sure !!!
You cannot label a band mainstream who came from the underground. Especially one that created a niche there. You can label a band that comes from mainstream. Mainstream. But a band that peaked as antimainstream well where else can they go. How can they reinnvent antisociety. They alreadydid that andkilled it. This band is staying true to themselves.
@happydonut53 dude who fucking cares.. people who pay close attention to "mainstream" vs "underground" are just idiots who believe they are cool because they listen to stuff nobody else does. Just because a band becomes well known doesn't mean they suddenly suck, and bands that aren't famous aren't necessarily good (a possible explanation as to why they are unknown)
@BeefJerkyDude His vocals used to be aggresive in The Jester Race and Whoracle, since then they have sounded more and more post-hardcore/metalcore-ish, which is obviously a more popular genre of music. That's why I made that comment. But the problem is that there are actually some good vocalists in that genre. Friden would be a bad one in the genre. Just my opinion though.
@UnStoff Dude, fuck off. I have been listening to In Flames since the mid-90's and enjoy their old stuff and new stuff for different reasons. The bottom line is difficult to deny that all their stuff is top shelve, well composed and flawlessly executed. If you want bands that never evolve in any way and stay "old" then may I suggest you go back to listening to Bon Jovi instead of screaming "sell out" like a pathetic little hipster. Grow up.
@TheWilku345 man, i saw in flames the first time in the 90's and i saw the last time 2011. after about 15 or 16 in flames gigs i can tell you that they 're still as great as they where back in the 90s. i love all of theyr albums and i don't give a shit fi theyre not "true" anymore.
The soon as a metal band adds more melody to their songs...the sooner it would be labeled that it "changed the style". That's so wrong ! It doesn't seem to me that they changed their style...is still metal...and a very good one...it's an improvement in all aspects. What a wonderful thing is that some good bands evolve to something even better, and not stay stuck saying the same thing over and over...it would be very boring.
Listen to the jesters race album, then this. And tell me that they weren't perfect then. This is good but just not the same. They're the pioneers of melodeath and should have stayed that way
@Goolaahh Cant guys like you just stop it? This is a masterpiece just like all other in flames songs. If they never evolved from their first albums then they would not be as popular like they are today. I really like that they changes style that makes it able to listen to darker melodeath metal and also being able to listen to this and its still the same epic band. There is no doubt, in flames are the best band in the world, they pwn evry god damn rock and metal genre.
@Goolaahh Should have? Who are you to decide? Because you preferred it? A band has no obligation to stay true to any one style just because their "fans" consider them best in that style.
@EverxOpeningxFlower You just don't appreciate the earlier In Flames clearly. In Flames would have nowhere near the following that they have if it weren't for those early days. You'd do well to remember that.
Not the best, but nowhere near the worst from Flames. Love the song All for me! But never forget masterpieces like = Crawl Through Knives,Take This Life,Trigger,Pinball Map,Only for the Weak...In Flames!!
@Matthwick If you can call songs like that a masterpiece, then you can call every song in existence a masterpiece. I think a masterpiece would be something like... "In Flames", "December Flower".
But you can't call every song you like even if you like them really much a masterpiece...
@EverxOpeningxFlower Ah, I would agree that both "In Flames" and "December Flower" are both great, but "Only for the Weak" is the song which shows In Flames at the height of their career. Its fantastic.
@Matthwick No no no no no no. First of all, the growls on Clayman where weak growls. They wheren't as powerfull as on The Jester Race and on Whoracle. Only for the weak was a song with a memorable commercial riff (Chorus) and that was about it. I really liked the lyrics though. But then a song like December flower.. Vocals where over the top, it had the best solo In Flames ever did, and the way the song was contructed.... Oh and the Lyrics: "The voice of December losing it's breath......"
@EverxOpeningxFlower Clayman has the best in flames vocals of all their albums imo. yes TJR and whoracle may be better albums than clayman but the vocal are not nearly as impressive. TJR and whoracle is basically anders just yelling into a microphone. Listen to the first 30seconds of as the future repeats today. It takes more talent to sing like that

For me this is beside come clarity as being almost there. Albums like this let you know that the old sound is still in there somewhere, it's just changed.
IF does us a service by leaving it that way. The Gothenburg bands created an amazing catalog of great music that eventually ran itself out. IF and Soilwork don't try to reclaim that legacy, they are making something different. Arch Enemy still tries, and can't seem to stop recycling their old riffs or using other bands w/ awful results.
everyone sticking up for in flames and there so called progression is fine but its getting old people can say that they dont like there newer stuff and there older stuff is better because its true.. i dont hate this but its not as amazing as there older stuff. progression doesnt always mean the music is getting better
As someone said. Jester Race had one sound. Whoracle had one sound. And so it's been all the way to this album. Instead of having 100+ similiar songs that would've been extremly boring after 2-3 albums, we now got albums with a sound that make each one unique and that's why this band is the best of the best. It's only ASOP I don't like, but the rest I can listen to over and over again. That's magic :)
Even ASOP had like 3-4 decent songs on it....this new album is just not heavy at all. This really depresses me, I thought they'd get out of their slump eventually. It's fine if you like their new stuff, but there is no way you can honestly say its as good as their older material, not even close.
Inflames doesn't make songs, they create windows that allow us to peer into their souls. Their "sound" is a reflection of how their loves are . If you go all the way back to Lunar strain you will see that each album has been completely different than the last, they have never had a consistant "sound" so the argument of "new" sound is invalid considering they never had an "old" sound to begin with.
I'm a long time In Flames fan, and I have to say that I've connected emotionally a lot better with A Sense of Purpose and Sounds of a Playground Fading than with their previous work. I think the music has faltered a bit in the eyes of old fans, but their new stuff is still really good. Jesper and Bjorn have both been huge influences on my development as a guitar player. They're still a great band making great music.
Their older material is what gave In Flames a name and turned them into a legend in the world of metal...their new material is not bad at all but a big change from how they started. The sound is almost completely different so it makes sense for old time fans to be discouraged. So far this album seems way better than A Sense of Purpose, an album I was personally upset with. I can't get myself to love this album though...but I will forever be a fan of In Flames and they remain my favorite band.
in flames Rules no matter how much they change there sound xd at the moment they begin to play POP im gone xD but they dont so il stay faithfull to them ^^
No difference between old and new In Flames? How about the fact that they have no more original members left? This band has become so boring and uninspired now. Every song pretty much has the same rhythm and tempo, with nothing to latch onto. Anders is still competing to be the next Jonathan Davis of Korn. People like it? That's cool. Their songwriting, artwork, lyrics, and recurring themes used to be very intriguing. I'd actually support the band if they still made relevant music. This = ZZzzZz
@Mzral It sure is different, but I wouldn't say it's boring. I like both the old and new stuff, and, just as you said, treat them as if they were made by two different bands. It's not bands you like in the first place, it's their music. You still like it, listen to it. You don't like it, you've still got the first six albums to listen to. No one has to preach, you won't make people like music just by telling them it's the shit.
Haha...I found it!!! :D Call me what you will, but I heard this song while shopping at Hot Topic. I thought it was In Flames, so I had to buy the album, but they didn't have the CD there...:(...but untill I find it I can listen to it on here...lol
dude, i saw this song on the tumblr of jona weinhofen! Just listen it en omg, I totally like this song! Going to listen more form you guys! Totally loving this song!
It's not about blindly following the band you worship. You can learn to appriciate different music and what I would say makes a true fan is someone who, dispite the band making each and every album different, still gives them second, third and fourth chances and learns to appriciate their works.
they finally became a true metal band. i hope they get even harder in the next album. fuck anyone who disagrees... go listen to some more justin bieber
if you were take this song's lyrics and think about all the hater fans In Flames has had to deal with going through their progression this song is very deep. You can only go and try to find all the answers for your fans for so long until you just give out and finally realise again, that you're doing this music for yourself and the real fans will follow
@1985ericjames I never looked at the lyrics and thought of it that way, but it'd make perfect sense if that was the song was actually about. Guitar work is amazing, still the same style to me. Just a lot more mature.
In Flames fuckin rocks!!!!! The evolution of their music thru the years makes the perfect playlist. No matter what mood I am in, there is an In Flames song that speaks to me.
The amazing intro doesn't fit with the rest of the song haha. But I actually like this song alot. I'm surprised that I like the new album as much as I do. The music is both really mellow and intense at times. Can't wait to see these guys in concert soon
are people really bitching about this album? You bitched when they made ASOP, but now they sound kind of like they did with Reroute, hell some things on this album remind me of OLD (90s) in flames, and you still bitch -____-
if you were a real fan of in flames you would still like them even if they changed i like old and new so people who hate them because they changed your not real fans so go ahead and argue with me saying that doesnt mean shit even though it does.
Okey, this is sick! I've listened to the album through my computer speakers, pretty good ones. And I have thought to myself, well, this is nothing special. The point came today, I bought the CD, and put it into my big Canton hifisystem. Sat down in the sofa, and.......bam. I sat quite during the whole album, for about 40 minutes. Didn't moved. This was something special. Genious! Every single detail approached. So everyone, until you've heard it with real sound, don't comment! In Flames rules!!!
@divra93 I listened to this album really softly in my cubicle at work and I thought it sucked, then I listened to it at home with my m50's and now I realize it's fucking awesome.
@divra93 I listened to this album really softly in my cubicle at work and I thought it sucked, then I listened to it at home with my m50's and now I realize it's fucking awesome.
Look. These guys aren't getting any younger and to hear the same albums over again would get boring. Let artists do what they do. If you don't like you're more than welcome to not listen.
yeah, it's a new style - again (like almost every new album they are releasing). but after listening to the first 4 or 5 sounds - you recognize it's "them". fucking love this song! that's in flames! without a doubt! the sound, the voice, the feeling. 12 years after listening to "my" first in flames cd - i still love them. keep the "deeper" style, guys! still keeping goose pimples (if that's the translation?) when anders friden is singing "almost" clear voice... *sigh*
This band comes out with tracks that do not disappoint year after year. Negative comments or not they have brought 9 albums to the table that most bands wish they could accomplish.
I wouldn't want them to make another album as STYE, Colony or Clayman. I already have those. It would just become boring and repetetive. Some of these new songs might not be as epic as the best of the old ones, but they're still pretty bad ass.
@zalmanusa Fuck you, no one cares what you think. I actually know how to play a guitar, therefore when I say Melodic, it doesn't mean that its only a Melody, I could refer to it as much more Melodic, as I stated on that comment, Meaning its more Vivid, sort of making itself very aware, They used different methods in this new direction of metal. Its all about how you listen fag, so keep your gay and retarded comments to yourself. Metal rules, and you're a queer.
Man, comments really ruin the mood of the song. Yeah, In Flames changed their sound again. It's called progression and it's how bands survive. If they never changed, you'd all be whining about how they're always the same and always boring. This just shows who the more faithful fans are, the ones who will always love In Flames no matter what.
im so glad one of my favorite bands' new music isnt a far cry from their original + older material. i fucking love in flames. their musicianship has evolve to a supreme level. they're showing up alot of other metal bands with this album

@videogamerselite270 Why are you talking about mainstream?
Everything is mainstream nowadays. If you want non-mainstream music yous should propably go listen to Avantgarde.
Everyone wants to be such a hipster nowadays.
Wonder if people say in few years that wearing underwear is so mainstream.
Oh by the way, what is the definition of mainstream? Something that many people like?
Wake up man, In Flames is known almost everywhere.

@BeefJerkyDude His vocals used to be aggresive in The Jester Race and Whoracle, since then they have sounded more and more post-hardcore/metalcore-ish, which is obviously a more popular genre of music. They're still a great band making great music.
mrconnery42 7 months ago 2
Their older material is what gave In Flames a name and turned them into a legend in the world of metal...their new material is not bad at all but a big change from how they started. The sound is almost completely different so it makes sense for old time fans to be discouraged. So far this album seems way better than A Sense of Purpose, an album I was personally upset with. I can't get myself to love this album though...but I will forever be a fan of In Flames and they remain my favorite band.

Mzral 7 months ago
@Mzral It sure is different, but I wouldn't say it's boring. I like both the old and new stuff, and, just as you said, treat them as if they were made by two different bands. It's not bands you like in the first place, it's their music. You still like it, listen to it. You don't like it, you've still got the first six albums to listen to. No one has to preach, you won't make people like music just by telling them it's the shit.

Hello metalheads.
Instead of a Metal rebellion i propose a new plan.
1. Don't bash other metal artists, we must unite! We cant fight against pop music if we arent even together
2. Watch more and more metal videos to get it to the top of the youtube vid list
If you like this idea, thumbs it up JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea
Lets show that metal kicks ass!
Copy this text in every Metalvideo you watch and we´re getting the power!

It's not about blindly following the band you worship. You can learn to appriciate different music and what I would say makes a true fan is someone who, dispite the band making each and every album different, still gives them second, third and fourth chances and learns to appriciate their works.

if you were take this song's lyrics and think about all the hater fans In Flames has had to deal with going through their progression this song is very deep. You can only go and try to find all the answers for your fans for so long until you just give out and finally realise again, that you're doing this music for yourself and the real fans will follow
1985ericjames 7 months ago

@sonicx2218 It's the most awesome intro to a song, just genious :)
Zieglers666 7 months ago
are people really bitching about this album?

Look. These guys aren't getting any younger and to hear the same albums over again would get boring. Let artists do what they do. If you don't like you're more than welcome to not listen.
diablowigglz 8 months ago
yeah, it's a new style - again (like almost every new album they are releasing). but after listening to the first 4 or 5 sounds - you recognize it's "them". fucking love this song! that's in flames! without a doubt! the sound, the voice, the feeling. 12 years after listening to "my" first in flames cd - i still love them. keep the "deeper" style, guys! still keeping goose pimples (if that's the translation?) when anders friden is singing "almost" clear voice... *sigh*

This band comes out with tracks that do not disappoint year after year. Negative comments or not they have brought 9 albums to the table that most bands wish they could accomplish.

please don't call this melodic death metal. melodic death metal is dead it died a long time ago thanks to dick heads like all of you

@bastienalexander it's not Melodic Death Metal. Didn't some of the band members say, that they don't see In Flames as a Melodic Death Metal band?

they are still doing the same

man the first riff is so "old" style, i still catch a glimpse of good in flames sometimes
LuChan1987 8 months ago
I wouldn't want them to make another album as STYE, Colony or Clayman. I already have those. It would just become boring and repetetive. Some of these new songs might not be as epic as the best of the old ones, but they're still pretty bad ass.
Lidstrom90 8 months ago
Now THIS sounds a lot more melodeath than the rest of the album. :P
videogamerselite270 8 months ago
In Flames has always been amazing, but I'm really diggin' this new sound!
magiktrix101 8 months ago
@zalmanusa Fuck you, no one cares what you think. I actually know how to play a guitar, therefore when I say Melodic, it doesn't mean that its only a Melody, I could refer to it as much more Melodic, as I stated on that comment, Meaning its more Vivid, sort of making itself very aware, They used different methods in this new direction of metal. Its all about how you listen fag, so keep your gay and retarded comments to yourself. Metal rules, and you're a queer.

Check out my cover of Ropes. Full song with solo. figured it out by ear a few days before the album came out :D
bassmanben94 8 months ago
Man, comments really ruin the mood of the song. Yeah, In Flames changed their sound again. It's called progression and it's how bands survive. If they never changed, you'd all be whining about how they're always the same and always boring. This just shows who the more faithful fans are, the ones who will always love In Flames no matter what.
