to do it properly and have a bullet proof engine for high levels of boost you not only need to lower the compression, but it should also have many of its internal components strengthened.

The mk5 also has the 3.2lt 24v but incorperated the newly developed FSI system which was bought to into the 3.6lt 24 FSI in (passat R36, Toureg 3.6 the passat v6 albiet detuned, and is still running in the porsche cayenne range) VW have discontinued this engine, but still make use of the single head VR design to mate to heads and create W build engines.

the vr6 engine, has come in a number of guises, 2.8lt 12v, 2.9lt 12v (mk3 golfs jettas or ventos and the corrado) the 3.2lt vr6 (mk4 r32, audi tt, and the audi a3 3.2) some were available with DSG sequential gearboxs the rest all came with 6 speed manuals.

The engine in this car, is a 24V 3.2litre vr6. is nor a straight 6 or a v6.

In german the word for a v engine is vee and the world for a straight or "to put inline" engine is reihen. So VW themselves refer to this engine as a straight vee or inline vee.

as the mk4 r32 has 15 degree v angle it shares one common cylinder head, with the cam shafts (two) incorporating both intake and exhaust valve actuation.

The remainder of the time the rear wheels really don't do much other than keep the car from dragging its ass. the standard cruising of throttle torque split is around 97% front 3% rear, and will engage a series of automatic transmission style clutch packs to bring the rear wheels into play. I suppose hypothetically if you had the front wheels on ice, and the was 0 front wheel traction the rears would take all the power but that is not a likely event.

The torque split is dependent on a myriad of different things; steering angle, throttle position, wheel speed (sensor based). the ecu decides when a heavy amount of throttle is applied or traction is lost in the front wheels and then applies torque to the rears by electronically engaging the rear wheels up to 50/50 split.

the mk4 r32 was released in most countries in 2003-2004 it has a unique 4wd system that runs off a tranvers transaxle at the front with a transfer case and propshaft running to an electronically controlled clutch pack in the the rear before the rear diff. there is no centre diff.

Standard R32 is 3.2 V6 (hence the sweet notes) normally aspirated. Stock is around 250 bhp.
