treehuggers, get a gas push mower please. Id be willing to give you one even. Id even come to your house and push the thing for you. You'll be amazed at how much better the cut looks. With the reel you get these nasty long clippings that dont compost quickly into the grass and they look ugly. Maybe if you had a smaller lawn id say thats ok but have you lost ur mind.
I have thick St. Augustine grass. Got one of these with grass catcher attachment at Lowes for $119. The one without the catcher is $99. I've used it 4 times and the grass is starting to really thicken up and look awesome. It takes slightly more time but not much more. And it's nice and compact when storing it between cuttings.
It leaves anything really tall, like the occasional weed. I then pull those out, which is better than just cutting it to match the grass since they'll come back.
Just bought a reel mower and love it! Highly recommend it - not as a complete replacement for my gas mower (I need that for leaf pick-up) but a great alternative for 90% of the mowing!
No! They are ridiculously bad on high grass. Fair warning. We had about 2 weeks of non-stop rain and the one Saturday evening we didn't have rain, I had to work so my grass got ridiculously high and all I had was my push-mower. So fair-warning, rain or shine, mow your grass often with a push-mower

Oh yea? How do you edge the grass and trim the bushes? I suppose you ride a horse to work too!

Looks like a product of "The American Lawn Mower" which I used to have.

Nor do you have to with a reel mower. It's called mulching. Look it up.
They also have grass catchers available if you don't want to mulch.

You don't have to rake the lawn with an electric mower.
