what can about this song, let me tell you, i was fifteen yrs old with my best friend getting high and listening to this song in the park, dancing our asses off, those were the days
There was another song from back then using this same music but I can't remember the name of it. It was a male group and the chorus went "Groooooova.... (and then something something) salsa." Anyone know what I' talkin' about?
Fast feet and back flips on the dance floor...thats what this inspired...I did it. Was there. And my life is better for it. Thanks Karen. And thanks @dfhawk000
Great voice. Sadly one of the glorious On Hit Wonders of the late 1970's. I can see myself getting down(and sometime dirty) on the dance floor. Oh, to be there again!!!!
@darthmal Undeed, and well past her youth, yet, she opened up the disco scene, nopt bad for a woman regarded as a MILF in todays wotld. To me, always a 'Cougar'. RIP Karen, You opened the road, and to so many things :-)
This song was co-written by the DJ at Philadelphia's DCA Club, which was the most incredible place - the model Gia Carangi (played by Angelina Jolie in the movie "Gia") used to hang out there (before she went to NYC). Can still remember all the guys with the jeans tucked into boots; the short hair; army cargo pants with pockets all over them, tight Lacoste polo shirts - when we all went to see Saturday Night Fever we were like - huh?? Who would dance or dress like that???
"I'm not tired of burning, it makes me REAL hot"!! Doesn't get any better than this! God what a time. EVERYONE WAS ON THE DANCE FLOOR! This was on a par with Gaynor's "I Will Survive". Long live disco (it never "died" they just changed its name to "techno") lol!
@beatles5445 Techno was a spawn of house (and there's NOTHING P-funky about techno - maybe some of the earlier techno) House music has more of a black influence, thus, it is more soulful (gospel roots) and the beats are funkier than in techno ...but really, disco is a commercialized term ...all that disco is is a more synthesized, faster-tempo form of FUNK music, that is diluted of social content/message ...But disco aint funk, and house aint disco, and techno aint house - just extensions
@beatles5445 No. I don't mean HOUSE MUSIC. Punk had zero influence on Techno. Disco had the largest. They basically needed simply to call it something else so all the straight fuck males could say "Disco's dead". After all we can't have all the hot women loving the gay boys more than than the straight misfits now can we? Morons.
@beatles5445 I don't care. "Techno" is nothing but a substituted name for modernized (often sleeker and more synthesized) Disco to satisfy ignorant heterosexual men. Disco was better but Techno is DANCE MUSIC no matter how you slice it for clubs in that identical way (and in many forms identical inception) that Disco was.
@Shubael1809 Isn't it funny that the day disco died and all the discoteques were torn down, their immediate replacements were "dance music" and "dance clubs"? There hasn't been a single second since disco "died" that dance music hasn't been an everyday reality for America-right up to now...Lady GaGa? And don't forget the world of remixes, extended versions, 12"'s, cd singles, etc. Everyday stuff now, even on mainstream radio. Disco died? My ass, it did. Dumb ass rock and rollers!
@louspintoo More than "funny" it was a purposeful RUSE on the part of insecure heterosexual men that Disco was somehow "fag" music. They had to rename it so they could continue to go out with women who'd only go to what can only be called DISCOTEQUES in order to enjoy themselves. So who loses out? GAY MEN! Fuck that shit. Remember when we first read "Disco Sucks"? "Dumb ass rock and rollers" for sure!! ;-)
@Shubael1809 I love everything you've pointed out. I'll only add a big thank you to Freddy Mercury, Elton John, and especially metal god Rob Halford (among others, but I'm referring to some old timers here) for coming out (especially Mercury, who came out while suffering with AIDS) and showing the homophobes they've been rocking out to queers all along. In fact, with the recent sad passing of Ronnie James Dio, it could be argued that the greatest living metal vocalist is now Halford-a gay man.
As I remember, this is the very first "freestyle" song in NY to come out. No one was dancing the hustle seriously anymore. At La Plage in the Hamptons people were doing this jumping dance to it, which was similar to today's.
i first heard this song at o'dells on north ave, Baltimore, md. it's still a classic disco still lives in the hearts of the true clubbers. it will never die.
Grew up in Jamaica Queens and I am 53. Lived through those times, right in the thick of it. Partied my a** off with some of the finest NYC Mamis from the 5 boroughs. Party, eat, sleep and then repeat. My ears are still ringing from those days standing too close to the speakers, didn't give a rats azz. Driving from Queens to Manhattan, what a rush, seeing that skyline never got old.
...can still remember when Kurt slammed us with this for the first time at the DCA (where he was the DJ in Philly's biggest and best Gay club)...she was a real character and sang around town at the Gay piano bars before she got famous...we loved her.......
Karen was extremely talented... a lovely person, and good friend ...she lived directly across the street from me! We lost her way too soon! RIP sweet Karen
YEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORTHIS SONG !!! I forgot the name ofthe artist, but baby, this was my SONG ! I'll never forget dancing to it at the International Food Festival in N.Y.C. summer of '78. I almost collapsed in the middle of the song and everybody was cheering because they thought I was dancin' my butt off, but I was doubled over from a bad bacalaoito I ate ! I was rushed to Bellevue ! I was was sick, but I was FLY BABY !!!!
I am 52 and lived through those times, right in the thick of it. Partied my a** off with some of the finest NYC Mamis from the 5 boroughs. Party, eat, sleep (work a little) and then repeat. My ears are still ringing from those days. Ipanemas, Roseland, Infernos, Townhouse 48, La Bamba, Bonds 48 (Hey you don't touch that touch this) Ochentas, The Lofts, and of course the Funhouse; on the Salsa side; El Corso, Epoca, Knightraxx, Casa Borinquen, Casablanca and many more, had a blast!
I am 52 and lived through those times, right in the thick of it. Partied my a** off with some of the finest NYC Mamis from the 5 boroughs. Party, eat, sleep and then repeat. My ears are still ringing from those days.
This was blasting in the Lower East Side that summer. There was no escaping it! Fortunately, it is a great song, well done! Drug dealers used music on ghetto blasters and cooperative DJs to signal where the buy could be made. I am in Paris now. cutecatfaith d com. Great posting, uprated and faved!
this was one of my favorites. From '74-'78 I was out dancing all night, first at Enchanted Gardens, Infinity, jouisance, elephas, Limelight, some after hours clubs...top floor? Fire Island, Key West and San Francisco. so long ago. But I think I was sort of done with it by the time they opened Studio. Went a few times but then I moved on. But loved reading all your comments- thanks for reminding me of Cerrone Supernature. Wonderful to dance all night. thanks guys!
another one: can someone HELP, PLEASE. old school disco. great energy. female singer. the lyrics go something like: I CANT GET NO MAN, HANGING OUT AT THE DISCOTEQUE. I BELIEVE IN THE BOOGIE, BUT THE BOOGIE DONT. can someone give me the real title. is it on youtube? THANKS. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
@tofelt ...the song is called "Loving Is Really My Game" by Brainstorm. You can get it on CD as it is on the 54 Movie Soundtrack Vol 2. it can be ordered from Amazon... good luck trying to find the original 12" as it goes for about $75.00 (if you can find one in the US-most of them are overseas for a lot more).
This special version gave the song such an incredible lift. It was already a great song but THIS version is the one DJs played back in the day. I remember Funhouse and Garage days...and a bunch of other defunct clubs that are legendary for the songs they played. Back then CLUBS broke songs. The DJs were bold souls for playing such cutting edge sounds. I'mma bring it back for you though. Watch and see-you'll remember this comment. ;)
WOW! I heard a tune that sounded like Supernature by Cerrone. Found it and Hotshot was one of the recommendations. I had forgotten about this great song. Thanks!
Classic I would play this in the early 80's it was so hot of a song when people was shy to dance it would start the party. I also used it to tune up my sound equipment I Love this song even still today .....Thanks Karen.....
This song was out when I was a young pre teen. It was a time when I though everyone over 18 were corny, and didn't understand the world. I just love dancing to it, and watching the young adults act like it meant so much to them, than just mere beats and words.
EXCELENTE TEMA DISCO GRATOS RECUERDOS TRAEN A MI MENTE ESTA EPOCA GLORIOSA DE GRANDES ARTISTAS Y TEMAS MUSICALES QUE VIVA LA MUSICA DISCO MUERA EL REGUETON.
I love this song! Back when it came out, I never heard of it cuz that time in my Navy career I was gone almost all the time. The first time I heard it was in the soundtrack of the movie "Reversal of Fortune"; just a piece of it. Then, my girlfriend had it in a disco-compilation CD. I finally found out who sung it and the name of the song. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS SONG ON YOUTUBE!
I do remember the scene from that movie. What struck me is that they dancing this dico song in very tuxedos and formal gowns. Good use for that movie.
Yes, I think the people dancing in formal attire in the background while Sunny and Klaus have that discussion is great. Great movie, as well as great song.
The music and the fabulous ladies were enough for me and my boys! We avoided the destructive aspects of the era, and that's probably why we're still breathin' today! Some great memories!
THANK YOU, GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! i speak the truth, a few months ago i put in every hot shot title i could come up with. could not find this song. didn't know the artist either. i said let me try again. i said, GOD, let it be there. and HERE IT IS. LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song!!! I was 13 when it came out and I remember wanting to go to the clubs like my older cousins in NYC and dance the night away to this song!! Freakin great
Infinity was class, no debate...gave the real cool folk a place to party....Steve Rubell was your diversion, he took the heat away...perhaps he was not so bad!??? Mi Amigo.
No, I'm not gay, but I knew the cat, and he was confused, but, he had a dream....ruined by the sleazies he never saw.
No Criticism, Only Respect to All Here...The Great Maker Knows Your Name.....Know That:-)
You shoulda hung at the Starship. The famous men's room. Six coke dealers, no waiting, LOL! I never wanted to party with anybody who MAY HAVE thought I wasn't 'fly enough' to get in. Never, ever even thought about trying to get in to 54. Infinity was the spot, too. The hell with Rubell and his snobs!
My friend JD was in Philly during this time and I believe she was a jazz type singer who had no idea this would hit #1 on the disco chart!
