The verse riff makes me want to punch someone in the face, steal a car, drive it as fast as it will go, until it explodes in a Hollywood-style fireball!! haha!......(joking obviously, Kings X are just ruling my world right now ;)
A lot of bands ripped these guys off, and a certain video game with a certain soundtrack by a certain "Mayhem-ic" sound also "borrowed" heavily from King's X. Sadly underrated, sadly overlooked, and most of all, sadly uncredited for their groundbreaking work.
Great version, from the 1st album of theirs I ever heard/bought. Bought the album for "It's Love" but when I heard this, I almost couldn't believe it was the same band...
One of my favorite King's X songs. I've been trying to learn it for my while. I'm making some progress, but I can't find sheet music or tab for it. This song inspired me to try and make a "death blues" genre of music.
but King's X made it a standard part of their sound. Pinnick has said they play a lot of the earlier stuff in drop C now to avoid constant instrument changes while performing, & it's also less of a strain on him vocally. When Rush played 2112 in its entirety back in 1998,it was done entirely in D (standard E tuning dropped a whole step) for that reason. Sounded weird, but Geddy couldn't have pulled it off otherwise. King's X, the most ripped off,underrated,no- recognition-given band ever, rules!!
There was a quote from dUg years ago that was something to the effect of people being freaked out by some bands down-tuning for a few songs when KX had done entire albums that way for years. And killer song!
Yes, & it was only b/c they were playing their signature drop D tunes in drop C, & it "didn't sound the same." I am actually a little more upset personally that Ty has gone to using full-on humbuckers for a lot of tunes instead of that great hard-driven single coil sound he used almost exclusively for the first 5 or 6 albums. It is of my opinion that single coils have much more character & personality than humbuckers, and that quoted by a seasoned studio vet in a 1993 GFTPM. True for Ty, too...
Thanks, truthislife for posting this. The vocals are so spot on it's remarkable. I don't know when this was taped but it appears maybe early to mid-90's? Anyway, no King's X weren't the first to use drop D, & they play this song now in drop C for convenience sake so as not to be switching instruments all the time. Up until Dogman everything was drop D or standard. This tune was originally D. Beatles used drop D, Jimmy Page used drop D for Moby Dick, & there are others, (cont.)
Band was always one of my favorites, love their sound, drop D tuning and all their fucking crazy riffs, harmonies, everything you could ask for in a progressive rock metal band.
Yeah Me too! Their mainly the only band that excites me anymore. And most of the newer material since the Dogman album is either in drop c and drop b tuning.
the tuning for dogman is down a half step on every string.. then drop the sixth string a full step from there... so drop D down a half step, open note on the sixth is C#
I don't think so.....Ty generally tunes down a whole step and then drop c tunes....or tunes down 3 1/2 steps and drop b tunes....i think you're referring to Black Sabbath in the 70's! haha
he does that on the new albums for sure and live i think he tunes that way now, but on the recorded version of dogman, it's drop d with the whole guitar tuned down a half step... if you play along with album version in drop C, it's too low, and i don't remember sabbath every playing in Drop D
you know it! Yeah I was thinking about it from what he's been doing live. I found a bootleg that I downloaded off of ego's old King's X site years ago from a gig they did in San Francisco at the DNA lounge. Also from "Live all over the Place" they are always in drop c....Ty's a pretty exciting/amazing guitar player live...I really dig his new Balance CD as well....How about Come Somewhere by Jerry!!?? What an amazing CD! Terrific vocals? Jelly Jam and Judhead on top of all this!
really good job on the editing. and of course this song f'n rules... one of the reasons I love KX was that they brought the "thrash" speed sometimes (I was an old school metal head).
Solicitors, wrong numbers and suum IIIIII just dooont know!!! Breakfast early in the morning? your friends getting married? i dont know what to say!! IIIIIII got the BLUES this morning.
great song...funny how the vid. cuts back and forth to dug with a hat and dug without a hat.

doesn't that riff have a little bit of Zep's "Immigrant Song" feel to it? especially the phrasing starting around 1:29.

Just saw them 8/5. They played "We Were Born TBL". Was hoping they would've played more FHL.
@ cremesupreme. Agree x 10, however it's even sicker during the chorus when he's playing it and singing @ the same time. ^^,
