I just watched this movie a few hours ago. Just wondering if someone can verify something for me? Out of all the events that take place; it seems like everything happened the way it did because of Seth Rogens friend. He shoves Gretchen, which leads to her death, which leads to Donnie shooting Frank, which leads Frank back in time to guide Donnie to alter the events. The movie was ridiculously good.
I think it's symbolic how the kid says he feels sorry for his family, not him. It's like no one really cared about him, even his mom, whom isnt showing any signs of sadness. Its ironic though because even though they don't know it, he saved the world from utter destruction, trippy ending

This scene was first scene in movie before he meet his gf or had any real contact with other characters. There is also intrepration that world was out of balance because he was suppose to die in beginning. Often refering to the world was going to end, so in order to save world he went back in time to die. Hence little joke donnie darko is a hero.

Just like this movie...Life will eventually come to an end. The Bible says that we will die once and then be judged by God. If you ever lies, stolen, lusted after a woman/guy, hated, taken God's name etc your on your way to Hell. But Jesus (who is God) came and died on the cross taking our sins upon His sinless self. We broke the law He paid our fine. We need to repent (turn away from sin) and trust in Him alone and we will be forgiven and enter in Heaven when we die
@saadwj2 the message of the ending in my opinion is that everyone faces death alone, no one can experience the same feeling that you are experiencing at the time of death. No one is alone in the universe, but there are somethings that a human being has to face alone.

When he sent the engine back in time, HE created a point of origin for its existence, and by his dying, closed the loop. (a) The engine gets inspected, and as a result the matching serial numbers of the REAL engine will be closely inspected. (b) Because the universe will no longer end, there will no longer be a tornado/storms as time's fabric no longer begins to disintegrate.
This is such a suitable song. This film is brilliant, it may be a film but for 2 hours you are away from reality and live in this masterpiece, before I watched this I didn't expect much, not until it finished did it hit me how amazing it is...

This film was definetely ahead of its time. I really liked it when I first saw it, though I was at a very young age so it was kind of hard to piece together. But ive seen it again this mornin for the first time since it was released, n I was in awe. Completely speachless. This is truly one of the greatest films of all time.
when possible, preoccupy your mind, video - games, books, whatever (short of lust & drugs). "The Lord of the Rings" is most inspirational. When not possible, just try to relax as best you can and ride it out like a bad acid trip and know it is temporal and will pass. Nothing is forever. thank god.

Some people did not get this movie, but as director Richard Kelly explained, it is basically a love story which incorporates science-fiction time travel.
By the way, the song 'Mad World' was actually written by Tears For Fears, whose song 'Head Over Heels' also features in this movie. Gary Jules covered 'Mad World', but drastically altered the style.

When my friend put this movie in we all expected to fall asleep 30 minutes in, all my friends fell asleep quickly. I stayed up until 2:00 and watched it all over again until the sun rose. My friends found me sitting in front of the TV with my mouth wide open and my eyes red, this is a masterpiece, truly the best movie I've ever seen.
trust me you don't want to be schizophrenic... if you actually watch the movie.. you will realize that Donnie isn't schizophrenic at all... he can just see out side of the normal plain of existence that everyone else can see. and through that.. he realizes he can save gretchen.... probably the best movie i've ever scene... its not even made like a movie.. more like.. a story that unraveled slowly.. and then bam right at the end... GETS YOU IN TEARS.... once you realize what donnie has done...

This is such a suitable song. This film is brilliant, it may be a film but for 2 hours you are away from reality and live in this masterpiece, before I watched this I didn't expect much, not until it finished did it hit me how amazing it is...

This film was definetely ahead of its time. I really liked it when I first saw it, though I was at a very young age so it was kind of hard to piece together. But ive seen it again this mornin for the first time since it was released, n I was in awe. Completely speachless. This is truly one of the greatest films of all time.

when possible, preoccupy your mind, video - games, books, whatever (short of lust & drugs). "The Lord of the Rings" is most inspirational. When not possible, just try to relax as best you can and ride it out like a bad acid trip and know it is temporal and will pass. Nothing is forever. thank god.

dont mind the fools who cant understand your darkness, as if its a matter of choice or just not trying hard enough to overcome. its because even anothers darkness is too harsh a reality for them to fathom, so they invent excuses to coupe. these are evil times, and i too know darkness. The kind that would send a "so-called" tough guy fleeing in abject horror. But this is also what makes us special. We do it because no one else would.

Some people did not get this movie, but as director Richard Kelly explained, it is basically a love story which incorporates science-fiction time travel.
By the way, the song 'Mad World' was actually written by Tears For Fears, whose song 'Head Over Heels' also features in this movie. Gary Jules covered 'Mad World', but drastically altered the style.
Very powerful ending.

When my friend put this movie in we all expected to fall asleep 30 minutes in, all my friends fell asleep quickly. I stayed up until 2:00 and watched it all over again until the sun rose. My friends found me sitting in front of the TV with my mouth wide open and my eyes red, this is a masterpiece, truly the best movie I've ever seen.

trust me you don't want to be schizophrenic... if you actually watch the movie.. you will realize that Donnie isn't schizophrenic at all... he can just see out side of the normal plain of existence that everyone else can see. and through that.. he realizes he can save gretchen.... probably the best movie i've ever scene... its not even made like a movie.. more like.. a story that unraveled slowly.. and then bam right at the end... GETS YOU IN TEARS.... once you realize what donnie has done...
