@milkitalready Fernando Saunders and Bob Quine are backing her and they had been in Lou Reed's band around that time, though the guitar always reminded me more of The Byrds than the Velvets.
This is fab, I thought Nico's version was the greatest (I see YT has pulled it.....shame). This is so deep and almost desperate, It's on a new level to Nico's both are utterly brilliant!
Brilliant stuff! To all the haters here, get yr heads outta yer asses and out of pop music vocal airbrush manipulation of people who sing pablum and listen to a true interpreter. 'Broken English' is a classic!
Bahahaha, there's never a shortage of silly opinions on youtube. Here I am reveling in how magnificent is Marianne Faithfull's voice and how brilliant is her phrasing. But you're probably right and I am probably wrong. It probably is just scary-- at least a little bit... hahahaha. Wow!
Hey DS didya know that M. Faithfulls greatgrandfather was Baron Joachim Sacher-Masoch. The same guy who wrote the book "Venus in Furs"--one muse of the VU of course. It was the same family the Sachertorte was named for( the best chocolate desert in the world). They were originally from Vienna but they had to flee cuz Marrianne's mum was Jewish.
yeah i knew that factoid from reading "Up and Down With The Rolling Stones." have u ever read that? it's so luridly written it's unintentionally hilarious. and actually i heard this version first, each has their charms. i reallly like this version, vocals and guitar-wise, tho i have read others bashing it. dylan's, of course, is good too. interesting that i heard his versioon last, and only recently (on YT of course)
kool, kool. see if you can find something with her and that crazy bitch anita pallenberg doing "sister morphine" in duet. its apparently out there somewhere and its like from 1978.
SO GOOD!

My favorite version. What is that wonderful clip from?
screwmaster404 2 years ago 2
@screwmaster404 it's a fragment from her '60's cult flick "Girl On A Motorcycle" (slowed & color-marinaded).
yesss i love this version too, boo to the h8erz ;)

Funny how it sounds like the Velvets are backing her up (Some Kinda Love?) - Nico's version is pretty great too though (w/ Brian Jones strumming!)

This painful (and I mean that with compassion) version
recalls Angel s-singing at the greendemon's karaoke bar.
It is as though each one of us, before passing through St. Peter's gates,
were obliged to sing "I'll Keep It With Mine".
So go easy on the lady! Eleison!

Yikes!I know this is a woman singing, but holy S!This voice sounds(if someone doesn't know any better)like that of a man!
djminimoto 2 years ago
djminimoto::: If you think this sounds like a man then you need to search YT for Amanda Lear.

Hmmm, this must be the first cover of a Bob Dylan song I''ve heard that sounds more like Dylan than Dylan's own versionf!!

Wow. This is amazing. And I thought Nico's version was spooky!!! Thank you.

She totally has all the same phrasing Dylan had... She must have listened to his version like a hundred times lol

Oh it's the croaky-voiced Marianne.
I wish she'd sung it when she was the pretty girl in the clip.
I have a 45 with Susana Huff singing it that may have a bit of the young Marianne vocal sound.
Raymantico 3 years ago
ohhh i like croaky (and non-croaky) marianne ~ very soulful rasp ;)!
desertshore 3 years ago
Yeah it's like the croaky or non-croaky voice Dylan--both have soul & that's where it's at.
How about a desertshore video of Nico's version?
Raymantico 3 years ago
i did it a white & silver version - uploaded a few months back (see channel)
