  • Madonna walked the path that Debbie Harry paved.

  • Wow.

  • Whoa!

  • what is the song she is singing and what language is it in??? ... i loved it !!!! x).... i've got to know!

  • @arealOpia1991 It's German, and I believe the song is called "Bilbao Moon" from Kurt Veil's Threepenny Opera. Here is a link to another version of it. If you do a keyword search here for Anne Kerry Ford's "bilbao moon" concert, you can hear another version of it.

  • she should sing in German more often ^^ hahaha ♥

  • One of my favorite Debbie clips. She looks so lovely here and she makes smoking look so damn good. I love her.

  • black and white....the hair...that face...its our debbie. its sad, but sexy, and yet funny. i dont understand this at all, but it still speaks to me.

  • wow, is she singing in german???

    love her!

  • Yes, she is singing in german. Es war das Schönste auf der Welt... Who wouldn't love her?

  • It's called "The Bilbao Song" by the German composers Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht from 1929. English lyrics were added by Johnny Mercer in 1961 and it was a big hit for Andy Williams. Blondie learned it to perform with a German actress/singer for a German TV show being filmed at CBGB's back in the mid-'70s (Debbie sang the English lyrics that time :) So after that Blondie would do it at some of their shows in the early days.

  • So interesting! Thank you for this intervention, I really appreciate it.

  • I have a recording of Blondie performing this song. It is a mixture of German (same words as here) and English, only not the Johnny Mercer ones. It is something about a club that reopens under a different management, with lots of palm trees and tacky stuff.

  • Debbie is my hero!

  • Thanks! Soldier

  • Oh God this was lovely! I hope I could see the whole movie.

  • Don't bother with the rest of this movie, "The Foreigner." This is the only scene Debbie is in and the rest of the movie is disjointed, incoherent, largely inaudible, and pointless. Makes a high school student film look like a Cannes winner. But it was worth renting the DVD to see this one all-too-brief scene with Debbie Harry!
