Green-shirt guy annoys me. I though being a libertarian is about freedom. And now that guy (whoever HE is) tells us "You're on the (Ron Paul) Team or you're not a libertarian" WTF??? That woman has a right to state her own opinion, to fire her for doing so, like this guy wants - wouldn't that exactly be the kind of attitude Ron Paul supporters critizise in the mass media? And he makes fun of her last name- wow, that is kindergarten-level of debate.
Libertarians tend to be more honest and objective so I find it troubling that they didn't even mention candidate Gov Gary Johnson. he is considered aa Libertarian as well and his record as governor is top notch. Vetoed more bills then all other governors combined! cut taxs 14 times. rated by CATO inst as most likely 2 reduce size of government. left with billion surplus n cut 1200 state jobs threw atrition!
Gary Johnson is okay at best. He is no more than a compromise guy with a number of policy ideas that are disturbing to libertarians. Some of them being that he only support legalization of pot, but not heroine or other hard drugs, that he is in favor of "humanitarian" war, that he wants "terrorists" to be tried by military tribunals etc. He is basically a moderate statist, not a libertarian.
CATO is funded by notorious fake libertarians the Koch brothers, who hate guys like Ron Paul.
Just to add a bit of info: Gary Johnson agrees with Obama sending troops to Uganda now, and having "terrorists" tried by military tribunal is like having a home-owner who defended his home tried by the burglar that broke into his house. The Koch Brothers (who fund CATO) hate anybody associated with Mises institute (like Ron Paul). They have donated to neocons like Cain, and haven't donated a dime to Ron Paul. So now you know the priorities of Cato's benefactors.
But keeping in mind all of the things that make Gary Johnson less than ideal as a candidate, many libertarians do actually mention Gary Johnson. In most cases, however, there is simply no point. Why waste your time on second best when the best is in the same presidential race?
Katerine is correct and people complaining about Reason are wrong. Doubt me? How much do you want to bet that Ron Paul doesn't get the nomination? I'll give you 9:1 odds.
The best thing about Reason magazine is that they will give you data contrary to their position because they actually have journalistic integrity! Jacob Sullum points out the negative effects of drugs while arguing to legalize them. Balko pointed out the necessity of the police while arguing against their militarism.
@TiniestViolin If she had said Ron Paul has a good chance of winning I wouldn't bother reading her. This was the first video I've seen by these guys, and I won't be back. I don't trust them because they don't tell the truth.
@tridentmovies That's your opinion, and an unsubstantiated one at that. I think Gary Johnson is more coherent. Ron Paul has a hard time answering any question without launching into a side rant about imperialism. I agree with Ron Paul on almost everything, but he's no Milton Friedman when it comes to explaining the markets.
They give "data" contrary to their positions because their 'positions' are false. A lot of Reason writers actually voted for Obama. It is a misconception that Reason's writers are libertarian. They are "lifestyle libertarians", which means they are mostly liberal and libertine; not libertarian. Some of them keep dragging up Ron Paul's "newsletters" despite it being old news.
And of course, the necessity of police (in it's current statist form) is NOT data, but an opinion.
You're expecting Reason to be consistent without any basis for doing so.
For instance, Reason's big backers, Koch Industries, claim to be libertarian and ostensibly subscribe to the decriminalization of drugs. However, in reality, Reason and especially board member David H. Koch, supports the privatization of prisons, creating the most powerful lobbyfor expansion of prisons in the U.S.
In that effort, Reason produces endless propaganda masquerading as "research" supporting for-profit pens.
HAHAHAHA I went to "reason.com" after seeing Katherine Mangu-Ward (mangled word?) berate RP on a news show, and they actually have the audacity to ask for donations! Well, my donations will be to Ron Paul's campaign. Katherine Mangled-Word had better hope he gets in, or otherwise her cupboards will be bare when the Bernanke-run depression hits. Oh, and you should rename the site "Treason.com" (or "unreason.com") as well, denoting your pessimism toward the next president of the United States. :)
Maybe she is right, Ron Paul may not win...but I'm absolutely positive that ugly bug-eyed cunt will never be attractive. Whoever knocked that bitch up should cut their penis off out of respect for the rest of the human race, as to not infect the rest of society with disgusting looking pseudo-females who stab their "allies" in the back.
She may of been just being honest...but regardless, she'd showed her true colors. A complete tool of an egoist.
I understand why you had to keep that dude under raps but that is exactly the kind of fire we need burning for Ron Paul. He just showed what we are all feeling inside. Adam I want that dude on fox..
I cancelled my Reason Subscription in 2008, It hurt becuase I had been a subscriber for over 25 years, but it has not been libertarian for a long time. It was already heading downhill when they made that imbecile neocon Matt Welch editor but he totally ruined it.
I send the amount of my old subscription to Lewrockwell as a contribution,. THAT is money well spent!
The fault here is not the Reason Foundation, it's Katherine Mangu-Ward, and imagining that the Koch Brothers are somehow dictating content to Reason is silly. They're on the board of the Foundation, but such is no causal relation to some perceived bias.
Ward made a dumb-ass comment. End of story. All the shock from the Libertarian media simply demonstrates how infrequently the louder voices diverge from the general philosophy and message.
Let me start by saying that I am a libertarian and I read Reason Mag faithfully. But I am also fully aware that Reason IS sponsored by the Koch Bros and, for whatever reason, they don't like Ron Paul. I don't know if its because they can't control RP or what, but the problems are long standing. While most of us were outraged at Katherine Mango Ward spewing at Ron Paul -- she probably got a raise from the Kochs for that RP dissing.
I don't think Reason Mag, is really Libertarian. That's just a front. Reason doesn't question or criticize the Military Industrial Complex. Ron Paul criticizes BOTH the Welfare state and the Warfare State. Reason Mag doesn't do that. So I would say reason mag, is owned by the Neo-Cons.
For Reason to criticize Ron Paul is like chewing off your own arm. It doesn't make sense! Even Drew Cary says that Ron is getting a raw deal with coverage--and he works for Reason!
In fairness, libertarians have gotten used to the idea that none of their candidates are going to win. There's 40 years of history behind it. When an honest-to-God libertarian finally *does* become president, no one will be more surprised than the libertarians who have become accustomed to being constantly ignored, especially when they're proven right.
But things may be changing, and the big question now is how long that change will take.
@AlanRLight Ron Paul isn't a Libertarian, he's a Republican. And RT is a State-run Russian news agency. Why do all the opinion hosts on RT support Ron Paul so aggressively? What does Vladimir Putin have to gain from supporting Ron Paul?
@aoiwarai Ron Paul has a lifetime membership in the Libertarian Party, even though he has always been elected and is currently running as a Republican. He was the Libertarian Party presidential candidate in 1988.
There is a sizable libertarian minority in the Republican party, and a smaller libertarian minority in the Democratic party.
...continued and the entities that the Koch's support like Reason and the Cato institute. So it's of no surprise to see Catherine do what she has to in order to appease her corporatist masters.
David Gordon wrote a few good articles that delves into the rivalry between the Koch brothers and Murray Rothbard. This continues today between the Mises institute(of which Ron Paul is a senior fello)
In 2011 feminists and their ideological shills would rather vote for endless wars, torture and secret prisons as long as they have an opportunity to abort. Pills and other protection is not enough for them. RON PAUL is 100% correct.
@swizzlecheeks That's obvious: she's a senior editor at Reason Magazine. They introduced her as such. My guess is its Reason Magazine. Or maybe the Illuminati Zionist NWO Lizard overlords that Obama sent to get her on Fox for a few minutes to say Ron Paul is not likely to win. That's a bigger operation that faking the moon landing, and requires a conspiracy of thousands of satanic minions.
@aoiwarai Fisher's prescription of never allowing a cyclical debt reduction process prevents the size of system wide debt from ever moderating and instead moves us inexorably down the path toward Too Big Not To Fail.
That is the BIG flaw your Irving Fisher prescription.
This was proved when they continued to raise the debt ceiling and didn't really cut spending. Downgraded to AA.
The obvious flaw is that it actually encourages the "debt" half of the "debt-deflation" equation to grow. It encourages debt to grow and grow until it is too big. The side effects of trying to print our way out of the problem have the potential to be drastically worse than the damage from just taking the pain in manageable, natural increments along the way.
That website will show you the donations made and by whom individual, or PACs for any candidate. His PAC donations are only 3% compared to the overwhelming 97% by individuals.
Also, please don't judge, you wreak of arrogance f.y.i.
@drtedcohen Ron Paul is the establishment, I hate to break it to you. Look at the bills he voted NO on after inserting PORK for his district, knowing they'd pass anyway. Ron Paul is corporate power. His top 20 donors are primarily corporations. "Individual donors" is another mystery funnel that major donations go through after leaving the source and being broken up. Don't judge what? You don't mind when RP supporters are arrogant, right? As long as its in support of St. Ron Paul the Infallible?
@blapgat You picked the wrong person to quote Romans 13 to. Firstly, the entire bible is a load of made-up stories that contradict each other. Secondly, search for "clergy response teams" and you'll see why even most hardcore Christians loathe Romans 13.
haha...you buy into the fear that is in the media. Our troops, our active duty military support Ron Paul as President, the men and women fighting the fight have chosen who will be their commander-in-chief by having the most donations and support than any other candidate in the race Democrat or Republican. We have state laws, in which we do not need overriding federal government laws which at the same time contradicts the other, and it is funded by us the taxpayers to also imprison non-violent.
@pbkstyle123 I buy into no fear of the sort. Can Ronbots talk to a critic or skeptic without making an ad hominem? I keep hearing that our troops support Ron Paul -- he gets tons of money from those PACs. I don't support him, and a lot of us don't, but who knows those numbers, and who knows who his real donors are since he's always voted against laws for mandatory donor disclosure, and laws to enforce restrictions on PAC to PAC funds xfers. He could make up names and no one would know.
* Eliminating the income, capital gains, and death taxes to ensure you keep more of your hard-earned money and are able to pass on your legacy to your family without government interference.
* Opposing all unfunded mandates and unnecessary regulations on small businesses and entrepreneurs.
These are just a few of the steps we can take to put America back in place as the world’s leading economy.
* Legalizing sound money, so the government is forced to get serious about the dollar’s value.
* Ending the corporate stranglehold on the White House.
* Driving down gas prices by allowing offshore drilling, abolishing highway motor fuel taxes, increasing the mileage reimbursement rates, and offering tax credits to individuals and businesses for the use and production of natural gas vehicles.
As President, Ron Paul will lead the way out of this crisis by:
* Vetoing any unbalanced budget Congress sends to his desk.
* Refusing to further raise the debt ceiling so politicians can no longer spend recklessly.
* Fighting to fully audit (and then end) the Federal Reserve System, which has enabled the over 95% reduction of what our dollar can buy and continues to create money out of thin air to finance future debt.
As the crash approached, Ron Paul was heavily criticized by the establishment media and even many of his fellow Republicans because he would not back down from his warnings about where big government policies were leading America.
When those warnings came true, however, our President and leaders in Congress didn’t let the crisis “go to waste” and used it as an excuse to expand government intervention and power on an unprecedented level.
* Revitalize the military for the 21st century by eliminating waste in a trillion-dollar military budget.
* Prevent the TSA from forcing Americans to either be groped or ogled just to travel on an airplane and ultimately abolish the unconstitutional agency.
* Stop taking money from the middle class and the poor to give to rich dictators through foreign aid.
* Make securing our borders the top national security priority.
* Avoid long and expensive land wars that bankrupt our country by using constitutional means to capture or kill terrorist leaders who helped attack the U.S. and continue to plot further attacks.
* Guarantee our intelligence community’s efforts are directed toward legitimate threats and not spying on innocent Americans through unconstitutional power grabs like the Patriot Act.
@TMOvids I opened it, but its the same regurgitated crap Ronbots call a "plan": government is always malevolent; we need to dispose of as much of it as possible. Ok, I follow that. But corporations in this scenario would become the new governments. What is the answer to the control they exert now? What do we do when private militias take over and create a new dark ages of feudalism? Ron Paul: "the free market will take care of it all (because God controls it)". Lost me there, not much pf a plan
What part of the plan keeps us from becoming like Somalia with no government, or Mexico with an almost non-existent one?Free market isn't saving them, is it? Maybe if you think white people are inherently more orderly or peaceful, or jesus will intervene. The problem is the rest of the world. We could sit on either side of the Atlantic and Pacific and just chill over a century ago. They've invented ICBMs, airplanes, and lots of other things that took that isolation off the table a long time ago.
@aoiwarai The free market doesn't prevent feudalism. A strong police service does. A corporation wouldn't be able to point a gun at you and say "buy this" because an individual private militia would be unable to overturn the state militia. Corporations have no control beyond what is legally permissible to the individuals within it. You seem more intelligent than popular arguments though, so I'd recommend Rothbard's "Ethics of Liberty" for a more rigorous defence of Ron Paul. :)
@TMOvids I know Rothbard, the Austrian school and the lineage these thinkers derive from. A police service is an extension of authority be it state, corporate, or feudal. Without govt monopoly on use of force, who stops a corporation from pointing a gun at you and telling you to do anything they want, including "buy this"? Ron Paul is anything BUT an enemy of corporate power. Cui bono from war if not corporations, but he says nothing? Who wins in a fight: Blackwater or your local police?
@aoiwarai Ron Paul has opposed the military-industrial complex, and corporate welfare. In a libertarian society, there is still government monopoly on use of force except in cases of self defence. The government are the only ones permitted to enforce the law, and a corporation would not point a gun at you, because it would then get 1,000 government guns pointed at the corporation. This is actually the same as the current system we have.
@TMOvids I agree that what you describe is the utopian ideal, but we wouldn't be having this discussion if corporations, private mercenaries like Blackwater and the rich werent above the law. Who takes THEIR guns when theyre "too big to fail"? Let me try to articulate a simple reply to the rest of the complicated issues you mentioned in that: Ron Paul's top 20 donors are the top 20 MILITARY and DOMESTIC SURVEILLANCE CONTRACTORS. Search ron paul + top contributors to check my claim on that.
@aoiwarai Firstly, the rich aren't above the law. There are quite a few cases of the rich being brought to justice. The biggest problem though is treating corporations as people. If a corporation commits a crime we do not currently punish the individuals responsible (usually) but instead punish the corporation as a whole, with a fine or whatever. Ron Paul is against this system, and would punish whichever individual committed the crime.
Secondly, I know Ron Paul's top donors are military. And?
@TMOvids Since we're recommending authors, and since I know how much you like Austrian School economics, I'd like to recommend 'Debt Deflation Theory of Great Depressions" by Irving Fisher. Ron Paul's never read it, or he knows his fans haven't and won't criticize him. He might also want to study the periods in history when we switched to central banking (the Revolution and Civil Wars), and the way germany's hard-money (Ron Paulish) line since WW2 gave them a bigger welfare state than ours.
@TMOvids FYI telling people to read books, as if they wouldn't understand you otherwise, or possibly share the same amount of background information you have, that you feels supports your political loyalties, is the epitome of arrogance. I hear Ron Paul supporters have a strong dislike of arrogance. Just an FYI. :D
@aoiwarai What are you on about man? I was trying to help and you start trying to make political points off it. This is youtube. I was recommending the work of someone more intelligent and researched than me who isn't limited to 500 character comments. If that's the epitome of arrogance then I dare to think what you consider the rest of the internet to be like. You must be outraged at the insolence of your local nunnery!
@TMOvids Don't get mad bro, I left you a happy face so you wouldn't be mad. :D Just saying. "If you want an answer to your question, read an enormous tome by my favorite economist. Yeah. Read that. Wasn't born yesterday, not some jackass randomly talking shit about RP. Thanks for the recommend. No hurt feelings. Just saying yo. :D :D :D :D
@OurTimeIsOut You look at her and see "an idiot gum chewer", whatever that means. Everyone makes comments like "sit her down, spank her and wise her up", etc. The problem isn't that she made a valid point, which could be made about ANY politician today: they sell values and have no plans. Yes, even Ron Paul, which the analyst ADMITS IS TRUE at the end. She's worked at every major newspaper and has a degree in Political Science from Yale. What are their credentials? Theyre angry a woman said it.
Why yes, you may not be a Libertarian if you do not support Ron Paul because he'll end the wars and whenever he has an anti-freedom stance it'll go to 'state's choice' because that is the better choice than individual rights.
I really like RT news. But honestly, this Ronbot bullshit is a couple degrees past ripe at this point. There were a lot of people on the Left interested by his criticisms of the establishment, and a lot of libertarians, but not every libertarian is also a conservative; there are left-libertarians. You guys talk about "getting on the team" because youre right-wingers in the libertarian closet. "This woman, how dare she, and she's ugly, awful name". Misogynist pigs.
@aoiwarai Ron Paul's supporters are overwhelming short, white, male, christian young men who hate women. They have every reason to hate women, I'm sure, being the single ugliest demographic of gullible losers in history. I'll let the rest of the troglodytes' comments that surround this one, including the inevitable hateful, inarticulate replies from fat white boys that were too scared to have sex outside of marriage, love their dads a little too much and hate their moms, make my case for me.
@aoiwarai Bring the hate, your tears just fuel me. And remember: marriage is sacred because without it, women might choose their mates based on how good they are in bed and how big their endowment is. As long as women are virgins when you marry them, they won't have anything to compare you too, so she'll never know how bad it is. Buy a penis stretcher instead of moar gold bars and guns next paycheck perhaps?
Yeah, that was pretty sad coming out of a Reason editor's mouth. I have my theories as to why she dumped on Ron Paul, but I'll save it. As far as the Jon Stewart thing: Adam, lighten up! Sure Ron wasn't mentioned in Stewart's sketch, but considering he was making fun ad hominem of the other candidates, Stewart's omission meant that Ron didn't have to be the target of a disrespectful joke. Just sayin'.
Reason talks well of Ron Paul all the time, what the fuck you guys talkin bout? She done goofed, but all kind of other peeps in Reason talk supportively of Ron Paul. John Stossel totally likes Paul!
I think Reason Magazine just lost about all of its credibility as a libertarian magazine. It would not surprise me at all if they lost a significant amount of subscribers over this, and went bankrupt. Actually, considering they are pulling the mainstream line, I would prefer they went bankrupt.
@AdamVsTheManRT All this seems a bit too emotional. If she says that he's unelectable, it has nothing to do with whether she's a good libertarian or not. It's just how it looks to her. I'd like to see Ron Paul elected, but I'm not a libertarian, and yeah, I'm worried that the bulk of the voters will not vote for him. That's not some dis to Ron Paul or to libertarianism. It's just that we know how people vote. How the hell did W get re-elected? These same people are still voting.
She's not the only person at Reason who is opposed to Ron Paul. What's his name, one of the co-authors of The Declaration of Independents Is opposed to Ron Paul too. I'll follow this post later with the correct name...
The proper thing to say would have been "I hate neocons and neoliberals", not "neocons and socialists". Socialists want many of the same things that libertarians want and oppose everything neocons and neolibs stand for, whilst neocons and neolibs want basically all the same things.
@radweed2009 Very true. They way labels get thrown on everything and everyone these days is ridiculous.
There are spiritual principles, in which we all abide by as human beings, and then there are man-made schools of thought that comprise some of these in different combinations. That's political philosophy.
I love Adam vs The Man. Not everyone at Reason is anti-Ron Paul though. But seriously, I don't know what Reason thought they would gain by letting her do this interview. A good portion of Reason readership is Ron Paul supporters.
It should also be noted since the people on the panel are screaming about principles, they need to do some research. Ron Paul may not vote for pork bills, but he sure as hell packs pork for his district in those bills before he votes against them.
I read reason and follow them on youtube. If you consider that 'bashing,' you have the thinnest skin I've ever seen. Ron Paul himself has noted that the only reason he's ever campaigned for president as many times as he has is to spread the message of Libertarianism. I love Ron Pau, but I'm realistic.
Libertarians want Libertarians to be president, not Republicans, or Democrats. If RP was still in the Libertarian Party, then it would've been different. But man, at least say it. No one is psychic.
Just FYI, Jake Diliberto is a giant douche - he ended up getting asked to leave a conference I was at because he drunkenly harassed several of the women there and physically intimidated one of the speakers. I think Adam vs. the Man can do a lot better that that toolbox for insights...
@carbonpenguin Wow, not surprised. Diliberto's bio proclaims him to be a graduate of a Theology school, and under other vids he's done his far share of Bible-thumping.
Speaking of sharing, find it funny how he says he "hates" Socialism. Good spiritual people don't "hate" things and react in this way. Can't think of a bigger Socialist than Jesus Christ.
She's NOT a libertarian and where does she claim her experience from? Reason's edtor is an unreasonable idiot. She doesn't know a thing compared to the wisdom and credibiltiy of Ron Paul.
She's sounds like she's SOLD OUT her morals and ethics in self-interest. I go with Adam's opining. Love u Adam.
"We've fielded more than a couple demands that Mangu-Ward be fired for her remarks, which seems to be a strange request of an organization that trades in "Free Minds and Free Markets." Reason staffers disagree on a wide range of topics, including the current issues of whether and why Ron Paul is getting the coverage he deserves and just how likely he is to win the GOP presidential nod... These are conversations worth having, but they are not the stuff of vendetta." -Reason's response
Mr. Loudmouth Military Analyst proudly says that "everyone knows I'm not a Libertarian" then goes on to say how Libertarian magazines should act. Tool.
Dude, so the Reason chick has a differing opinion. So what? She didn't say Ron Paul is an asshole. She just doubts he'll win. I DOUBT HE'LL WIN, but that doesn't stop me from supporting him. I don't think she represents all of Reason guys. Nick Gillespie isn't punching Ron Ron in the mouth or anything. Calm down.
@bane349 Just because a "mainstream" media outlet might collectively hold the same opinion as someone else does not make the opinion illegitimate. Stop being a hipster and get over yourself. So you disagree with her. Good. Differing opinions are the best thing in the world. A true libertarian would recognize this as well as recognizing a person's right to speak their mind. This is NOT a cult!
@Ronok888 I don't claim to be a libertarian, though I definitely lean in the direction. For instance, in a pure libertarian society we would have completely open borders which would actually end up restricting movement because it would only be possible with the permission of the property owner. I respect her right to voice her opinion, but if she parrots the same nonsense we hear from the msm then you had better believe that I'M GOING TO BE VOICING MINE AS WELL.
i want support Reason Magazine, i vote with my dollar, she dont know what shes talking about she knows nothing. just as she is, NOTHING.. PULLING SHIT OUT HER BUTT, IS JUST THAT, SHIT
Jon Stewart is a clown. I'm glad he noticed the bias against Paul, but think about it, that's just having common sense and not being completely retarded.
Email Katherine Mangu-Ward at letters@reason.com (Letters to the editor email address). Tell her how you feel and what you think she should do about slandering Ron Paul and the campaign.
"Reason"s a sinking ship, unfortunately for Radley Balko, a genuine libertarian blogger there. Their funding is largely directed by the Koch brothers and the agenda isn't libertarian. It's pro-big business, not free-market. They care more about defending criminal corporations like Monsanto and discrediting valid ecological concerns than supporting free market principles. If you're a libertarian have some sense and disassociate from those who harm our goals.
And that is just the start of his Adminstration where he also has said giving back Liberty for those to choose for themselves instead of letting the Government choose for them. He would also like to let the Markets decide instead of having Gov telling what you should buy.
What will Ron Paul do
Something no other President has done and follow the Constitution The principle to Equality the PEOPLE
Have one disagreement with Adam on this video. Stewart IS a comedian first & foremost. He doesn't bring up Paul usually because he doesn't see much there to lampoon. Paul is horrible for satire because he is an honest, sweet, respectful non-hypocrite. When Stewart is making fun of the Republican field & calling them all hypocritical idiots then I would prefer that he leave Paul out of it like he for the most part has. He seems to bring Paul up in a positive light.
ron paul 2012..fuck reason magazine...tell me who to vote for..i did my research for the last 5 years...ron paul is the only candidate worth voting for..AGAIN
I never liked Jake before but the GOP video and this one he has definitely stepped up in my book not just a notch a hole lots especially from how he called out Romney, Perry and Bachmann. Props!
Green-shirt guy annoys me. I though being a libertarian is about freedom. And now that guy (whoever HE is) tells us "You're on the (Ron Paul) Team or you're not a libertarian" WTF??? Well, my donations will be to Ron Paul's campaign. Katherine Mangled-Word had better hope he gets in, or otherwise her cupboards will be bare when the Bernanke-run depression hits. Oh, and you should rename the site "Treason.com" (or "unreason.com") as well, denoting your pessimism toward the next president of the United States. :)

Bokababe 6 months ago
I don't think Reason Mag, is really Libertarian. That's just a front. Reason doesn't question or criticize the Military Industrial Complex. Ron Paul criticizes BOTH the Welfare state and the Warfare State. Reason Mag doesn't do that. So I would say reason mag, is owned by the Neo-Cons.

Ron Paul 2012! He was right the whole time!
drtedcohen 6 months ago
The obvious flaw is that it actually encourages the "debt" half of the "debt-deflation" equation to grow. It encourages debt to grow and grow until it is too big. The side effects of trying to print our way out of the problem have the potential to be drastically worse than the damage from just taking the pain in manageable, natural increments along the way.

haha...you buy into the fear that is in the media. Our troops, our active duty military support Ron Paul as President, the men and women fighting the fight have chosen who will be their commander-in-chief by having the most donations and support than any other candidate in the race Democrat or Republican. We have state laws, in which we do not need overriding federal government laws which at the same time contradicts the other, and it is funded by us the taxpayers to also imprison non-violent.
pbkstyle123 6 months ago
@pbkstyle123 I buy into no fear of the sort. Can Ronbots talk to a critic or skeptic without making an ad hominem? I keep hearing that our troops support Ron Paul -- he gets tons of money from those PACs. I don't support him, and a lot of us don't, but who knows those numbers, and who knows who his real donors are since he's always voted against laws for mandatory donor disclosure, and laws to enforce restrictions on PAC to PAC funds xfers. He could make up names and no one would know.
aoiwarai 6 months ago
* Eliminating the income, capital gains, and death taxes to ensure you keep more of your hard-earned money and are able to pass on your legacy to your family without government interference.
* Opposing all unfunded mandates and unnecessary regulations on small businesses and entrepreneurs.
These are just a few of the steps we can take to put America back in place as the world’s leading economy.
pbkstyle123 6 months ago
RON PAUL's stance on Economy (cont.):
* Legalizing sound money, so the government is forced to get serious about the dollar’s value.
* Ending the corporate stranglehold on the White House.
* Driving down gas prices by allowing offshore drilling, abolishing highway motor fuel taxes, increasing the mileage reimbursement rates, and offering tax credits to individuals and businesses for the use and production of natural gas vehicles.
pbkstyle123 6 months ago
RON PAUL's stance on Economy:
As President, Ron Paul will lead the way out of this crisis by:
* Vetoing any unbalanced budget Congress sends to his desk.
* Refusing to further raise the debt ceiling so politicians can no longer spend recklessly.
* Fighting to fully audit (and then end) the Federal Reserve System, which has enabled the over 95% reduction of what our dollar can buy and continues to create money out of thin air to finance future debt.
pbkstyle123 6 months ago
As the crash approached, Ron Paul was heavily criticized by the establishment media and even many of his fellow Republicans because he would not back down from his warnings about where big government policies were leading America.
When those warnings came true, however, our President and leaders in Congress didn’t let the crisis “go to waste” and used it as an excuse to expand government intervention and power on an unprecedented level.
pbkstyle123 6 months ago
Ron Paul's stance on National Defense (cont.):
* Revitalize the military for the 21st century by eliminating waste in a trillion-dollar military budget.
* Prevent the TSA from forcing Americans to either be groped or ogled just to travel on an airplane and ultimately abolish the unconstitutional agency.
* Stop taking money from the middle class and the poor to give to rich dictators through foreign aid.
pbkstyle123 6 months ago
* End the nation-building that is draining troop morale, increasing our debt, and sacrificing lives with no end in sight.
* Follow the Constitution by asking Congress to declare war before one is waged.
* Only send our military into conflict with a clear mission and all the tools they need to complete the job – and then bring them home.
* Ensure our veterans receive the care, benefits, and honors they have earned when they return.
pbkstyle123 6 months ago
As Commander-in-Chief, Dr. Paul will:
* Make securing our borders the top national security priority.
* Avoid long and expensive land wars that bankrupt our country by using constitutional means to capture or kill terrorist leaders who helped attack the U.S. and continue to plot further attacks.
* Guarantee our intelligence community’s efforts are directed toward legitimate threats and not spying on innocent Americans through unconstitutional power grabs like the Patriot Act.

Someone explain Ron Paul's plan plz. The RT Team of "experts" can't, apparently.
aoiwarai 6 months ago
@aoiwarai What do you mean by his plan? His approach to 50 significant issues is given in the recent book "liberty defined" if you're interested :)
TMOvids 6 months ago
@TMOvids I opened it, but its the same regurgitated crap Ronbots call a "plan": government is always malevolent; we need to dispose of as much of it as possible. Ok, I follow that. But corporations in this scenario would become the new governments. What is the answer to the control they exert now? What do we do when private militias take over and create a new dark ages of feudalism? Ron Paul: "the free market will take care of it all (because God controls it)". Lost me there, not much pf a plan
aoiwarai 6 months ago
What part of the plan keeps us from becoming like Somalia with no government, or Mexico with an almost non-existent one?Free market isn't saving them, is it? Maybe if you think white people are inherently more orderly or peaceful, or jesus will intervene. The problem is the rest of the world. We could sit on either side of the Atlantic and Pacific and just chill over a century ago. They've invented ICBMs, airplanes, and lots of other things that took that isolation off the table a long time ago.
aoiwarai 6 months ago
@aoiwarai The free market doesn't prevent feudalism. A strong police service does. A corporation wouldn't be able to point a gun at you and say "buy this" because an individual private militia would be unable to overturn the state militia. Corporations have no control beyond what is legally permissible to the individuals within it. You seem more intelligent than popular arguments though, so I'd recommend Rothbard's "Ethics of Liberty" for a more rigorous defence of Ron Paul. :)
TMOvids 6 months ago
@TMOvids I know Rothbard, the Austrian school and the lineage these thinkers derive from. A police service is an extension of authority be it state, corporate, or feudal. Without govt monopoly on use of force, who stops a corporation from pointing a gun at you and telling you to do anything they want, including "buy this"? Ron Paul is anything BUT an enemy of corporate power. Cui bono from war if not corporations, but he says nothing? Who wins in a fight: Blackwater or your local police?
aoiwarai 6 months ago
@aoiwarai Ron Paul has opposed the military-industrial complex, and corporate welfare. In a libertarian society, there is still government monopoly on use of force except in cases of self defence. The government are the only ones permitted to enforce the law, and a corporation would not point a gun at you, because it would then get 1,000 government guns pointed at the corporation. This is actually the same as the current system we have.
TMOvids 6 months ago
@TMOvids I agree that what you describe is the utopian ideal, but we wouldn't be having this discussion if corporations, private mercenaries like Blackwater and the rich werent above the law. Who takes THEIR guns when theyre "too big to fail"? Let me try to articulate a simple reply to the rest of the complicated issues you mentioned in that: Ron Paul's top 20 donors are the top 20 MILITARY and DOMESTIC SURVEILLANCE CONTRACTORS. Search ron paul + top contributors to check my claim on that.
aoiwarai 6 months ago
@aoiwarai Firstly, the rich aren't above the law. There are quite a few cases of the rich being brought to justice. The biggest problem though is treating corporations as people. If a corporation commits a crime we do not currently punish the individuals responsible (usually) but instead punish the corporation as a whole, with a fine or whatever. Ron Paul is against this system, and would punish whichever individual committed the crime.
Secondly, I know Ron Paul's top donors are military. And?
TMOvids 6 months ago
@TMOvids Since we're recommending authors, and since I know how much you like Austrian School economics, I'd like to recommend 'Debt Deflation Theory of Great Depressions" by Irving Fisher. Ron Paul's never read it, or he knows his fans haven't and won't criticize him. He might also want to study the periods in history when we switched to central banking (the Revolution and Civil Wars), and the way germany's hard-money (Ron Paulish) line since WW2 gave them a bigger welfare state than ours.

Ronok888 6 months ago 2
@Ronok888 I don't claim to be a libertarian, though I definitely lean in the direction. For instance, in a pure libertarian society we would have completely open borders which would actually end up restricting movement because it would only be possible with the permission of the property owner. I respect her right to voice her opinion, but if she parrots the same nonsense we hear from the msm then you had better believe that I'M GOING TO BE VOICING MINE AS WELL.

@bane349Then I too will voice my opinion that you are an illogical hipster.

It probably has more to do with the fact that Reason is highly pessimistic in its outlook.
Shellshock1918 6 months ago
@Shellshock1918 Which is good in my book. Idealistic optimism is what got Obama elected. I mean, it worked on me. I supported him back then.

Ron Paul is Austrian!! Reason has hated Austrians for a long time, it's not simply a libertarian magazine hating other libertarian.

Jon Stewart is a clown. I'm glad he noticed the bias against Paul, but think about it, that's just having common sense and not being completely retarded.
And Mangu-Ward is just a cuntbag.

Re: the Jon Stewart Clip about doppelgangers, -- The reason they left out RP is that he has no twin. He is Unique. So he did not fit into the sketch.

What will Ron Paul do
As He stated so far
1 Restore the Constitution
2 Bring the Troops home

She's a troll.
This is like, anyone can call themselves a "Christian", but if you don't stick to the teachings, you are not.
She proves anyone can say they are a Libertarian, but if she preaches against our views, she is not.

I never liked Jake before but the GOP video and this one he has definitely stepped up in my book not just a notch a hole lots especially from how he called out Romney, Perry and Bachmann. Props!
