  • Comment removed

  • do they stay close forever?

  • @zeyn10 no. only about 2 weeks.

  • Awesome...

And also about the song, I always hear it in porn videos...

  • that thing looks nasty as hell

  • Second song? I posted what it was below somewhere. It was generated especially for the video by Smartsound software. It is not from a band or something........

Here you, for what its worth, the track is called Dance Club, New Jack version. Its generated by Smartsound software... Google it.

  • Please someone tell me what is the name of the second song in the video??? been looking for ages..

  • DAMN NATURE YOU SCURY!

  • Lol whats with the cheesy 80s porno music

  • how does the thing eat that it has no teeth

  • @afghanblueeyes. By secreting enzymes from the leaf surface. The resulting liquid is then absorbed.

  • "Well this looks like a nice place to... Did it just get dark?"

  • me wacthing thirty minutesw this now im considering buying these for my birthday

    THERE U GO

  • For a second, I thought the trap actually crushed it.

  • I feed these with human meat.

  • Instant Death.

  • this venus fly trap so poor they have to survive by eating bugs (its true because the can't get the nutrients that they need in the soil!!)

  • @dinosaur418 it isnt true they don't need bugs, i own 2

  • @dOnTaPPrOaChMe1 it can die without bugs!

  • 25 people were beetles

  • omg time i was at my friend's house, and i put my hand down on this shelf, and my pinky finger brushed eve rso slightly agaisnt the inside of a venus fly trap by accident. It shut on my figner and it didn't wanna let go so i jsut ripped my finge rout of it which caused the plant to be ripped off of the res tof it.

  • you have activated my trap card.

  • This is fake.

  • @nwalmooz If this is fake, so is your mom

  • @nwalmooz This neveris a fake. It's the real power of nature^^

  • so does it digest this insect or what?and if not then how does it get rid of the other dead insects in its mouth cuz eventually all the dead insect bodies would have to pile up right?

  • @Dominicanboy255 look it up

  • @Dominicanboy255

Wind and rain blow them away. The traps are only good for a few goes anyway. That is why its bad for the plant to false trigger them eg kids finger, because it goes hungry and yet has to grow new traps to replace spent ones. It will get weaker and weaker if this repeatedly happens..

  • @MarkyM4rk thanks i was just curious and couldnt find the answer anywhere

  • @MarkyM4rk just a little point-out. This flytrap is indeed harmed to a false trigger. And it wastes energy, however it does not go hungry. Venus flytraps can go a very long time without food.

  • @SuperControlRoom

Yes I know. I never feel the need to force feed mine although I have a nice big one on my office window that catches plenty of flies and its definitely bigger than my home grown one of same age. Of course the environmental conditions are more stable and its a bit sunnier in the office. Perhaps this the more significant factor.

  • but where are the hinges? how does it close?

  • @MikeOblay

Good question. Trap closure has 3 phases. Trapping, Compression and Sealing. The video has a time lapse section at the end so you can see the compression phase. It takes a few hours and the bug must keep wriggling otherwise the trap will reopen thinking it was just dead useless stuff that dropped in.

It closes by rapid changes in cell structure. After use the leaf is slightly distorted and never as good as a fresh leaf. It can use a leaf three or four times and then its spent.

  • @MarkyM4rk so what kind of changes? :?

  • @MikeOblay

There is a good explanation by the Carnivorous Plant Society but I can't link directly to it, sadly.

Its a combination of acid growth, turgor pressure and cell division. I think acid growth is responsible for the initial snap shut and the others take over for the slower phases.

  • @MikeOblay

Here is a hint for searching :

"faq2800 Exactly how does a Venus flytrap's leaves close so fast?"

  • @MikeOblay The Venus Fly Trap has a special hair in its mouth, when touched it will close automatically.

  • I love traps, their my favorites! Felfal is, so to speak, on it's dying breath, I've had it for quite a while and it always seems to catch the big ass bugs and I have to help it keep it's lunch. Oh, by the way, Felfal is it's nickname, it means 'devour' in hungarian.

  • dum beetle.....

  • OMFG what a horrible bastard! i would fuking chop it off its stem!

  • god damn get down to this BEAT

  • how does it close so quickly!?

  • @MikeOblay Their are tiney hair-like spikes inside the 'mouth', touching one initiates a 20 second time frame in which it will close. If another is touched within the time frame, it will automaticly snap shut.

  • Awesome! I love this plant!

  • One of the best VFT vids out there.

  • song?

  • @gor3ykorey

Is a smart sound track tailored especially for the video clip and called Dance Club, New Jack version

  • @MarkyM4rk awesome mate.

i have a venus fly trap of my own, but unfortunatly it hasnt managed to catch anything yet! :P

im getting pretty worried though because some of the leaves are starting to wilt away.. im just wondering what i should do.

  • @gor3ykorey

The leaves can die off a bit for the winter. Just remember not to over water it through the winter and keep somewhere cool but not freezing. Do not worry about it not 'eating' it will not starve :-). Do not fertilise it or report into normal compost.

  • @gor3ykorey just catch some insects ALIVE n feed it to the venus flytrap

  • @gor3ykorey oh yea how did u plant the venus flytrap or how to get the seeds to plant it?

  • @osensor

Missed this one, sorry. Carnivorous plant societies have seeds and will also have unusual VFT variants. You can make your own seeds if you must manually fertilise the plant with pollen.

The plants are slow to grow. About 5 years to reach full size.

VFT compost is very low in nutrients. eg peat moss and a bit of lime free grit, sand. Do not use normal potting compost it will eventually kill it. Plants are carnivorous because they live in nutrient poor acid type soils.

  • @MarkyM4rk means thatu just spray a pollen on any plant?

  • @osensor

Just take a small artists paintbrush and transfer pollen from the stamens of one flower head to the stigma of another. Small shiny black seeds should form.

  • @osensor i actually bought it from a gardening shop :)

  • beetle:fucker plant

plant:you meat you are death in 10 days

    beetle: im not a happy

    END !LOL¡

  • PWNED

  • ok, maybe a dumb question, but does a venus flytrap actually digest what it catches? does the venus fly trap ever open up again after it catches something? i havent seen a time lapse of a venus fly trap clamping on something, then opening up later to see nothing

  • @Ether165 Yes it digests it. Thats the definition of carnivorous rather than merely entrapment. After digestion it opens again. It can do this approx 3 times per leaf.

  • So... what happends after that ?

  • Wow, awesome soundtrack

  • Mwahahaha

  • i didnt enter phase 2 :O

  • mine ate a stink bug and it spraied it and yea u know how that story goes

  • DAMN NATURE U SCARY!!!

  • @XxJuggaloMikexX shut up ..... u just copied that comment from derakin ...pfftt

  • own

  • what? oh Nooooo

  • best music ever

  • if I lived in Australia I would be planting these things everywhere

  • A plant that eats bugs... is any girl's best friend.

  • Was that last part in highspeed? i didnt think they flattened out that quickly

  • @ilike12and4

Yes its time lapse. Took me 2hrs of stop start video for just a few secs of time lapse. Click more info on top right for video description.

    Mark

  • what do you mean ONLY 20 vft

  • how long does it take to reopen?

  • @bustyboy123 it takes about 5 days if it caught somethin and is digesting it. if it didnt catch it 12 hours. and if youre a plant owner ( vft) , then how did the dormancy go? mine went through pretty well

  • @theamazingplant2

Its looking good. Normally I keep mine very cool but above freezing. This year I experimented and kept them a bit warmer on a windowsill but still coolish. They seem much healthier and bigger already. I already nipped loads of the flower buds off and they didn't die back much either..

  • i forgot to say much lol

  • THANK U VERY it was a purple pitcher

  • @AgentZero1337

Yup, they do not react to dead things. They are clever in that they only close if they get a few quick taps on the trigger hairs. That way they do not waste energy with the process unless the prey is alive and kicking.

  • CArnivorous plant collectors i have a question i had a pitcher pland but it died then all these flat leaves started to come up can u tell me whats wrong please

  • Sounds like it is perfectly healthy. I assume its an American pitcher plant, Sarrencia and not the tropical Nepenthes! If it is then the summer pitchers die back in the winter and it produces flat winter leaves. New pitchers will appear in the spring and maybe a flower too.

  • VERY COOL!!

  • When the Venus is opening....is the bug away? Oo

  • Awesome music, i fed chocolate to a VFT when i was a kid and it died, that was a meal worm beetle?

  • lol SMOOSH

  • what a slow FATALITY lol poor stunt bettle

  • that beetle looked VERYYY happy

  • If you need help with your VFT check out my VFT care video. Its the first vid you'll see on my page and its less than 2 min.

  • question if it all goes in where does it come out???????????????

  • @MrBreakingInside lmao!!! very good question!

  • if u feed a venus fly trap dead flies it can die

  • @dpaul888

that is true. Because dead organisms can carry bad fungus and bacteria. which would infect the plant.

  • I feed mine ants the trick is to kill the ant and then tap the trap.

  • thats doppe i got one of thos

  • awesome plant

  • owned.

  • that bug was yelling SHIT!

  • Try and get one of the plant eating a person...

  • Damn nature, you scary!

  • lol i saw that to

  • I liked the time lapse stuff after it's caught. Shame it doesn't show it opening up again. Good vid 5*

  • about how long does it take to "digest" it i guess and open back up?

  • @ buterand toast, It cna go form 5 to 10 days

  • dang

  • 10 days

  • Nature pawnage.

  • my flytrap is called mr. dude. he eats like 3 flies every day. he grows like crazy. also, i once fed it a worm. it caught its lower half. then, by pressure, it bit the worm in two. the other half, with the head, fell into another trap, wich closed to. lol.

  • @Oetierules youre going to kill that plant feeding it 3 times a day.

  • Not a happy ending? I bet The Venus fly trap was quite proud of itself lol

  • Wow, their are plants on venus? It looked like earth!

  • LOLOLOL thats hilarious

  • i hate bugs not any other animal!

  • After it closes where does the bug go? O.o

  • It has digestive juices inside the actual mouth and the stem as well. Varies on the plant.

  • To the worst world - Hell ^^ Just a joke my opinion.....i have 1 fly in my room and always when i try to sleep this stupid bug flies around my ear! I want one of this sweet plants :)

  • @Benolke552 vft's are NOT sufficient fly exterminators. if you want to get rid of fly's, get a cape sundew. all the flys will be gone, and plus, cape sundews dont need to be put outside in a snowy place in winter like vft's do

  • @theamazingplant2

They are not bad outside. Mine catch plenty of creepy crawlies. Sundews are good for mosquitoes and a bit larger or feabile big stuff. Butterworts are good for midges and mosquitoes and they flower a lot too. I have a few of these in the bedroom. American pitcher plants, Sarrencenia, are best for flies. If left outside mine are overflowing by the end of the season.

  • @MarkyM4rk Sundews hace sticky leaves right? How do Butterworts catch their food?

  • @Humberto4790 . They also have sticky leaves but the hairs are very small and more of them. The entire leaf is sticky.

  • I WANT TO GET ONE SO BAD!

  • What would happen if you put your finger in it?

  • lol you can still see it bouncing arround inside

  • lol the bettles like OH HOLY SHIT when it gets eatin

  • I just bought one of these today if anyone has any helpful hints on care n such shoot me a message it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    That bettle got fucking owned!

  • Yeah, dont feed it meat,it never needs to eat....it just needs water. But to be honest its better to feed it,that way you get to see the bug get eaten Lol!

  • dude i just got one and it ate a rolly polly and somthing with wings

  • strong plant!

  • lol it crushes it

  • lol it digests it

  • I just got A venus fly trap today. I can't wait for it to eat something. We have so many flys that get in the house.

  • OMG thats so so so so so so so so so cool! =D

  • lol stupid bugs think before u enter lol

  • woah....first it shuts... then it PULVERISES it =D

  • can some post a video about all the parts of the plant ? i mean does it has a stomach where the bittle lands or something ? i wanna know all the steps about when he traps the bittle.

  • i too am quite curious about this, although i can probably just google this lol.

  • the beetle gets stuck in the closing part i guess you could call it a mouth? then once its closed it fills with digestive fluids i think >_> then it just absorbs the nutrients

  • where do u buy this plants?

  • At garden centres usually

  • thanks

  • Anytime! Any other questions about venus fly traps just ask me!

  • i like to learn about venus flytrap

  • cool you used a timelapce, and nice sound

  • aww the beetle almost made it

  • damn. i bet a great amount on him...should have read the full title

  • does the mouth of the venus fly trap open after it eats?

  • yep it digests it then opens and waits for another insect

  • ok thats good because i tested one of mine with a stick and it closed and i thought it would never open again. BTW how long does it take for then to open?

  • i dont know sorry

  • 10 or five days to digests its prey i dont know but my one said that it takes five to ten days

  • yes

  • lol

  • Don't feed them tap water 'cause tap water is SCARY.

  • well thats that

  • The fast forward was pretty cool

  • at the end it looks like a green prickly taco

  • lol

  • where can i get a venus fly trap??

    PLZ i want one

  • i just got mine today 4-25-09 at home depot for 5.00 dollars really cheap u should go look there

  • hey, just a heads-up. Water it with rainwater, not tap water!

Tap water is toxic to them.

  • Must be the fluoride...

  • Actually it's the excesive minerals, specially chlorine.

  • the bettle's last words were "Hi"!

  • lol

  • Someone should put a movie with the full digesting

  • I have a Venus Flytrap but mine has small green bushes/algae round the traps and on top of the soil. Is this normal? Please help :)

  • as good as dead

  • Have you seen what it looks like when it finishes digesting and re-opens? Is there any remaining?

  • if the bug its eating has a exoskeleton, then that is all that remains, if you ever felt an ant when it just came it is crispy and spongy.

  • ha ha ha ha

  • i got 1... i put my remote in it D:

  • hmm. They should sell these in supermarkets. Meat and Vegetables all in one package.

  • Looked like the venus frowned at the end like it was a bad beetle.

  • You can buy these things at most department stores that have a garden center. However they are very hard to grow. They are extremely picky about their environment. Most of mine end up dying no matter what I do. One common mistake people make is watering them with Tap water, that kills them faster than anything. Use only distilled water or rain water.

  • They reuquire different conditions to normal plants. Once you know what then they are easy. There's plenty of info below but to summarise.

    Love

Sun. Standing in rainwater in summer, lime free sand for compost, flies

    Hate

Fertiliser, lime and other chemicals eg tap water, freezing, too hot and humid (do not cover when in the sun), too wet in winter, poking leaves with no food, food which is not a live insect

    easy peasy :-)
