I think the hong kong version of 1994 was the best, this movie was based pretty much on everything that happened in 1994 as in events that happened, except for the yang kang part, so I find this version very very interesting to watch.

I especially don't agree with them changing the storyline of Yang Kang and Mu Nianci. Yang Kang was so much more interesting as an evil character with a torn deep love for Nianci and his mother. His story is tragic because the two great loves of his life were not even strong enough to save him. Just my opinions, no flames please.

@isolanthe it's interesting how they changed him, but usually such dramatic change wouldn't result in his betrayal to someone who has gained his trusts (his father, guo jing, nianci) etc. This is a good change if they changed him to be good, but that wouldn't make the story becuz everything that happened was because of him, so although the change was good, they shouldn't have done it. It was pointless.

Story rewrite when on little too much, but atleast it was something new. 胡歌 is little bit too "modern" and "hansom" for Guo Jing. 林依晨 was very cute,but I think she's not a classic chinese beauty, which I think Huang Rong should had been. All other roles were fit quite well.

@pro80 I think the game is decided right at the start where HR first appeared as a dirty beggar and then turned up as a beautiful girl at the lakeside. Zhou Xun and Ariel Lin both had that wow factor for me. That contrast is really beautiful. :D

What's wrong w/ these people, using such a modern lay back song on such a heroic/humane epic? This does an injustice to Jin Yong, his martial arts epic are different from many others for he uses "plenty" of human emotions/feelings common within an era the heroes/heroines were born into. This was my favorite since the heroes were the underdogs from day one given they came from the South Song Dynasty where the country gets ass whipped from one to the other.

Uhm, take apart the melody and the lyrics, analyze them, and you'll find a wealth of meaning underneath.

The song's modern only in the sense of beat and instruments, but it uses pentatonics and its lyrics are very poetic and epic. It does Jin Yong perfect justice, if you just listen to it carefully.

You could see the "I'm a hero who's not the brightest knife in the drawer but I have a hoard of other qualities to make up for it" character transfer itself to his very eyes. And that's not a produce of luck of inherent personality, it's acting skill.

I was skeptical too at first, but he really did do too good a job for you to discredit him like that.

2003's cast and acting sucks, the 2008 has good casts, the alteration in the story was good as well as it focused on character development. but for the last few episodes, i don't know what the hell the scriptwriter was thinking. its as if he doesn't know how to put an ending and just forced all the conclusions. it has also become so draggy. it also made this impossible to made a sequel. cud have been very good. too bad. sigh
