I love Take 6 since the first time I heard "Get away Jordan" . I would like to see Take 6, Committed and Groove for thought all at one show or even together for a song!
this is almost like an insult to jesus. cuz the aingels are singing music so grate,we humans cant think of.I rember reading in the bible how an aingel blinded paul. I cant even think of the wottage those guys got when there together
VOCAL HARMONY PERFECTION! You don't even have to be a Christian to appreciate this amazing performance by Take 6. Hearing them sing "O Mary" made me smile and say a loud "Amen!" :D
Absolutely awesome! Takes me back to 1980s in college. Mark Kibble was outstanding singer even before college. Makes me proud to have been classmates with the best group I have ever heard.
I love these guys. My daughter used to sing this and "Spread Love" when she was 3 'cause I played this so much.Took her to Disney World to see them when she was 4. Then we saw them at the Shaw Center in Baton Rouge when she was 19.
The only version of this song I like more than this is Aretha Franklin singing Live at her Daddy's church. It was gorgeous. But this is wonderful. Seamless.
The more I hear people trying to sing this song on Youtube, it only makes you appreciate Mark's sick lead on this song. He just makes it sound so easy. Just way too easy.
:32-:35.....sick, sick, sick. Talk about him making that sound so easy. And he did stuff like that TIME AFTER TIME, yet never the same way...NEVER...incredible.
yeah, Mark makes it sound so effortless when he does that in a song...not too many singers can do that. Brian Mcknight and Wanya Morris are good at that too.
lol...every time I hear this live performance of "Mary" I get chills...thanks for bringing me back to this! God is good folks...every day and in every way...God is good.
I first heard this version when I was about 6 yrs old and Boyz II Men did it on Video Soul and I have to admit I LOVED it, but this version is superb. I never even knew they were doing TAKE 6's rendition of the song. This is great! Thanks for uploading it!
I know some Take 6 "purists" how have said that Even though they LOVE Joey, The Sound that Take 6 had when Merv was there was the Quintessential "Take 6 Sound" I LOVE and will *always* support Take 6. But I would LOVE for MERV to come back!!!
They are the "Biggest part of me" in my life.
God Bless Take 6. And Check out their NEW CD released on SEPT 30th!!
Yeah, I didn't know take 6 even existed until 2005. I wish I knew them earlier. Boyz II Men and Take 6 are the best vocal group and probably most successful group ever. God Bless them both.
It irks me when people comapre B2M to the guys. B2M are great in their own right but they CANNOT be compared to my babies here. Before there was B2M there was Take6. I've been a loyal Take6er since '88. Mervyn did "I Do" for B2M and you can tell the difference.
okay who ever thinks or thought that boysIImen can hold a candle to these guys are nuts. Let's not forget folks it's Mervyn warren an original Take6 member who has worked with b2m to help them even remotely sound like T6. Take6 hands down are and have been the "baddest vocal cats on the planet"
point taken and to take your point further b2m have a part on thier first cd just before "under pressure" where they actually do a excerpt of take 6's "get away jordan" and hardcore fans of both boyz II men and take 6 know that Merv wrote and arranged "I Do" for them on the nathan michael shawn and wanya cd
Can you believe that it's not only people out there who think Boyz II Men are musically better, but that they can outsing any member of Take 6. They obviously didn't see this because Mark Kibble would give Wanya a run for his money if he wanted.
Honestly...Mark Kibble in his singing prime had a MUCH bigger range in the upper end of the register than Wanya...and nothing against Wanya here...he's a great singer with lots of talent, but c'mon now...Mark sang like this NIGHT in and NIGHT OUT AND HIS runs/riffs seemed to always be different, yet dead on. He did things that I think NOBODY could do...incredible...Take 6's bass could sing circles around Boyz II Men's bass...no question. Claude McKnight? lol...nobody's touchin' that on B2Men..
yea randy your certainly right about Claude being a better bass than Mike McCrary thats truth simply stated but i'm sure some would debate you on the Wanya vs Mark Kibble thing i wont get into take 6 vs b2m cuz honestly there are the BEST in thier own catergories take 6 being the best acapella group in my opinion and b2m being the best rnb group of our generation again my opinion i'm a huge fan of both!
Alvin...yes...he's a much better bass. The key is versatility, versatility, versatility. Range--both down low and up top...solo ability. Rhythmic percussion and an overall better sense of pitch. Although I like Mike McCray...
Yeah...I'm aware of that...I think another poster mixed that up. My comments 9 months ago referenced Mark Kibble, then the "Take 6 Bass" (I should've specifically said Alvin) and then switched to Claude McKnight and said that nobody's touchin' that on B2M because Claude, in his prime was in a class all by himself then...at least in my opinion. Of course this was all under the discussion of comparing Take 6 to B2M, which I happen to think B2M was a good group, so no disrespect to them...
B2M were VERY influenced by Take 6, by their own admission. The first time I saw B2M on Video Soul, Mike Bivins had brought them and Another Bad Creation on.B2M were still working on Cooleyhighharmony and they performed "Mary" and KILLED IT!! Thats when I KNEW they were going to be HUGE!!!
I remember watching this broadcast and KICKING myself for not having taped it. I've been looking for it ever since (about 15 years now?). Thank you for posting it.
They've always had that chill factor. Makes chills run all through you and a little teary eyed. NO ONE CAN TOUCH TAKE 6. Not Boyz II Men, Shai, Silk or anyone from that 80's - 90's era. REMEMBER THAT!
i so much prefer take 6 without instrumental backup. they are made for acapella. love that performance.

tru...32-35 was easy for Mark...and then the transition from full voice to mix/falsetto is just plain SICK with all that control. IT IS WHAT IT IS!

Well said brownone75...I can't argue with that. The key phrase here is "in their prime..."
For Boyz 2 Men it was all about rnb and we know it to be true...so in many ways we are comparing apples to oranges.
randyjsing 3 years ago
Claude does not sing bass..he is the 1st tenor the highest voice in Take 6. Alvin Chea is the bass in Take 6 and yes he is better than Mike McCrary
