We just got back here on youtube after an entire year and i'm just now seeing this! We just did a video reply that we made last June the day before shaving down Abbers. If you turn the volume up you hear us saying hi to you. Her hair grows out just fine and i've always wondered why so many people say it ruins them, so not true. We love you all!!!!!!
Not only is it hair that grows back, it's also YOUR dog. I have 2 papillons that I shave 3 times every year with a 10 blade because I like it that way. I say do what ya like! I happen to think the Cavalier is so adorable and cute when shaved! Cheers to you!
Oh, lord, there are some dumb trolls out there...as someone who's had Cavaliers since 1999, the idea that clipping a Cavalier is somehow 'wrong' or will result in coat damage is, as you've correctly pointed out, just plain false. In fact, I have two dogs (one is a retired AKC Champion) that I keep clipped simply because they carry profuse coat and since they're no longer being shown, why deal with it? Again: it's just hair...and it definitely DOES grow back. :-)
I have a Cavalier King Charles and a Westie. I clip them both very short and their hair grows back again with NO PROBLEM and exactly the same than before.
Ignore those people who write rude comments with no sense. If these people live in a very warm country, they are making their dog live worst, because of the consecuencies of having heavy coat wih very warm weather.
Mine is a rescue one, he lives in northern ireland, and I groom him myself. :o)
Well said for speaking out to these people. There are too many people out there who just like to criticise. I agree with you, there is nothing wrong with clipping any dog down short if it is what the owner wants. I really enjoy watching your how to clips and have learned a lot from you. Please keep up the good work. Dianne
Ok, I have been grooming for about a year now and your videos are the absolute best that I have found on the net. when I get stuck on something I go back to your videos. They are wonderful, are there anymore that you do not have posted? I would love to see any that you have made!
Great Video...I am a professional groomer and alot of my clients are cockers and king charles breeds and more! Most of them get summer shave downs and when they come back they have beautiful healthy coats. Again, great video for people who need to be educated on dog grooming!!! Love and many blessings...
I have a beautiful show Cavvy, her hair is lovely and untrimmed like a show dog should be... But that's just the thing, she is a show dog, it is the breed standard for a show dog to be untrimmed, but as soon as she retires, I will get it trimmed, because it is difficult to maintain constantly when you are not needing to have a dog shown. Unless you people complaining have hair growing past your ankles, grow up and take a look at yourselves.
I can't believe what people choose to whine about. We've always trimmed our Cavalier, and our vet has never complained about it. In fact, due to skin allergies, and due to the fact that we live in South Texas, and it would be animal cruelty in the summer to not take some length and thickness off, they actually encourage it.
I shave my Cav about three or four times between May and September, and it always grows back nice and thick and gorgeous. They we let it grow again through the winter.
I hear ya girl, when I was posting videos I'd always get rude remarks from people that just want to be ugly and either don't listen or care as to why we clip the dogs that aren't normally clipped. No it's not "Breed Standard" but these aren't "Show" dogs, these are pets and the only reason hair would not grow back is if the dog has an underlying skin condition or disease that prevents normal coat....nothing to do with the clipping!
Unfortunately people that rant about our videos will continue
I shave my cockers every summer because being in south Texas its gets unbearably hot. Even though they are inside dogs, they still get hot. There hair grows back just fine everytime.
Leo's very handsome! We trim down our shih tzu and maltese - keeps them from painful mats and getting filthy from romping in the yard :) Hope baby is well, I think I hear him in the background ! :)
Thank you for responding to all of the self appointed "experts" who criticized you. I have enjoyed all of your videos and have learned how to groom my cockers. Please don't stop and keep on posting.
Hello Spanielmom93! I am a groomer from Brazil , and LOVE all your videos and the way you deal with all the dogs.Don"t worry about what silly people say!You are a great person and a SPECIAL professional that I am sure helps many groomers with all you do , including ME. Many thanks and I am waiting for more videos.I wish you all happiness with your lovely dogs and family.
Greetings from Brazil , Cabo Frio ,Rio de Janeiro.By!!!!!GOD LOVES YOU
Ugh people need to get a life. You're a groomer, you know what you're talking about - they obviously don't. I love how everyone's an expert... NOT! It's hair!!! It'll grow back. Besides its your dog, stuff what anyone else thinks. Love your videos :)
I clip my cav for same reasons, she itches. She is an active girl and in warm months it is much more practical. I 've had negative comments too, but good comments from people who think she looks cute and younger. My vet thinks it's great. In the Uk cavaliers are used a lot in puppy farming, the lucky ones who escape, end up in rescue. Why are people concerned about a much loved pet being clipped when they could put their energy into plight of the many homeless and unloved dogs all over the world
@kaymansergh1 This is another point I forgot to mention in my video I RESCUED Leo, and many of the Cavies I groom were rescued rather than paid for... If someone rescues a dog from a dire situation then, and even if they didn't, each owner has a right to trim or even shave their dogs if they want.. this is after all a free country right??? :)
Thank you for your comment though, makes a good point!!!! :D

the people who take care of my maltese shaved her and the vet suggested we didn't do it anymore because each time we do it her hair grows thicker and it's not good... yes hair... is it ok to shave her once a year?
@3333alex I would think it would be fine to shave her as often as you like. Never had any issues with Maltese hair either, maybe try not cutting her so short next time. ;)
@3333alex I can't believe a vet told you this. It's the same myth saying women that shave their legs have hair that grows back thicker and darker, not true. It's not how hair/bodies work!
ignore the people who knock...love your vids.. people really do not know what they are talking about, its about the dogs comfort, they are pets after all,.... I trim mine down too, :-)
wow..are there really people out there who think dog hair doesn't grow back? LOL this was a great video but I don't think this will help those poor homeschoolers out there. They just need a good ol` slap across the face XD
@mychemicalrelapse Yes there are, there are some really misguided poeple out there that think it's necessary to post very rude comments on some of my videos simply because I gave a dog a hair cut lol :p so I made this vid for them. ;) Getting sick of hearing OMGosh that dogs ruined!!! pooooor dog... it's just silly. My dog was a rescue, I saved his life... quite frankly he is very lucky to have me.. and if I want to cut his hair.. I will :) Thank you for your kind comment. Made my day lol :)
@spanielmom93 well your dog looks lovely to me! and it's always nice to hear that people are rescuing dogs rather than buying from pet stores :) glad my comment made ur day - your videos are always excellent! XD
This is so true, have Cavies that I don't shave because that is what the customer wants, so they come in every other week for grooming. But have other Cavies that do get Summer shave downs, and Holy Cow they do grow back. I almost wonder if shaving them makes it grow back thicker. I do have some double coated dogs that don't come back in as pretty, but that is what the customer wants. Thanks for sharing. : )
SO SO SO TRUE!!! These dogs are not show dogs who are prancing around in the ring THEY ARE LOVED PETS! i shave down everyting even Huskies and Sammies and there coats grow back fine aswell! Great vid!
@Luvpets90 Thank you! I too have shaved double coated breeds and when done in the right season and in that season alone, and on dogs without underlying health problems, a shave down is not a big deal and they should grow back as normal. ;) Thanks again for your comment ;)
I've watched your videos numerous time on how to trim my westie - thanks so much, you're the helpful on you tube! She's getting long now so will have to trim her again this weekend :)
