I do believe this was the biggest non tournament winner in Pyramid history, winning over $66K not counting Mystery 7 prizes. She was the champ before and after the tourney.
I believe that there was a non tournament winner that went above the $66k amount. That person was in the 6th tournament (the one where Mary Monte won with Laurie Hendler giving). She qualified for the tournament the Friday before the tournament started and played after the 6th tournament was done.
Kathy was not on after the tournament. This was a Friday episode, and when she returned on Monday, she played with Dick Cavett and Martha Smith (from "Scarecrow and Mrs. King). Kathy won $25,000 with 15 seconds left on the clock (45 seconds, and the longest time was 43 seconds). Kathy would have made a GREAT player in the tournament alongside with Marilyn Evans.
Please forgive me I'm in the UK and don't know the rules...is she not allowed to say opposites like not horizontal? I think they must otherwise it would be a bit too easy
That is correct. In the "Winner's Circle", you must give a list of items. In the main round that leads up to it, you could say "Not horizontal but.........." for VERTICAL.
@LazyScott99 During the Winner's Circle round, the clue-giver cannot give descriptions as clues - they may only give a list of items or words that fit the category.
It is amazing how much more lucid and intelligent the comments for these clips are than normal youtube comments. There is hope that some of the world can actually form complete sentences and does not feel the need to resort to name calling when someone disagrees with them.
I think that's just because the audio and video aren't perfectly synched here. You can see Meg Bennett's expression changes right at the time the $10,000 starts flashing.
How many things can be specifically described as "vertical?" There's a "vertical market," but a market would be too general. The "television knob" clue works well, because if you keep guessing, you can get it. "Horizontal...VERTICAL!"
She did. She was a good, and swift player. Her last win in the circle was off by 2 seconds (went to the top in 43 seconds). If she was in the tournament, more than likely the tournament would not have gone on for 3 long but exciting weeks.
BLOOP! BLOOP! BLOOP! BLOOP! BLOOP! Where's that isolated audio???? Peace.

It goes by the buzzer. The clock must have been a half of a second off.

@jksonny Parts of a FLASHLIGHT is an easy trap for the wrong person. Things that are TENSE is moderately difficult. But VERTICAL is really difficult.

Does anybody have any of Cathy's other wins? I would love to see her record-breaking performance.

Cathy I believe racked up a lot of money from winners circle wins---over $65,000, but she never made it to the tournament.

The clock display is interesting. A vane display is shown on screen, but an eggcrate is used in-studio.
