  • I don't believe UK democracy allows us a voice, sure we get to vote, and we base our votes on what a candidate promises to do, but how often do these promises get forgotten. My thoughts are that an elite of highly educated and wealthy people rule the UK and only have use for us in as much as they want our votes and man power. We are the 'bewildered herd', and only meant to spectate the political arena, not participate. Democracy makes us think we're are free and not farmed like cattle.

  • i love your enthusiam for democracy. i think one of the worst aspects of democracy is that so many people take our freedoms for granted and therefore they just don't care.

    cheers! gracias! thanks!

  • I just know this twat is a sociology student without even needing to listen past the first two seconds. What a useless waste of a life.

  • you look liek a bitch

  • omg me too! i think about it all the time, why i wasnt born at least far offf into the future, or way in the past, and why i get to enjoy things that we have today.

  • Online voting has been totally discredited after the Bush incident in Florida, A programmer wrote in the source code a couple of lines that span the result 49-51. Bush was still carried through, this proves that Stalin was correct.

"It matters not who casts the vote but who counts them".

There is no democracy unless there is a free media. The Internet will soon be obsolete as the major corporations have hijacked it and will bring in Internet 2 next year, just as with YT see Nufffrespect

  • Did anyone else feel the urge to click the switch on the wall behind him, almost expecting it to turn off?

  • You make some really interesting points in this video.

You're well spoken too. I liked it :]

  • A video about democracy gets 4000+views.

A video about some f***kin bulldog on a skateboard gets 4000000+views.

    Need I say more.

Democracy is dead. What more proof do you need?

  • "Also i wouldn't trust or idolise anything a Georgian says as they are hot headed."

Calm down bro. I was being sarcastic.

Moreover I personally despise The one bollocked wonder also known as Hitler. I don't agree with his sick racist ideology and rather naughty genocidal tendencies but more importantly he had an unacceptably inferior mustache. What were the Germans thinking when they elected this facial hair cripple.

  • But then again if you want your leader to sport a powerful mustache than you would have to settle for a 20 century despotic dictator.

Sadly current breed of potential leadership material has lost the predatory instinct to grow an intimidating mustache and thus proving beyond any reasonable doubt to the electorates that they are alpha male and therefore worthy of your vote.

  • p.s for those unclear, i am also mixed race if this gives any credibility to my argument

  • firstly, Obama is mixed race. Being mixed race (usually and for the majority) therefore means you are indeed, black. This is an unspoken fact. Sorry guys!

Secondly, I'm really into Jazzas vlogs - i can listen to anyone who has something to say - unlike a few people who leave their retarded comments on here lol But, what he does fail to talk about is how democracy can be corrup and indeed not exist at all - even voting on tv can be found to be rigged!

  • your boring, all chin and no interest...

  • *video

    not bulletin :)

  • i hate you.

you realise if "the government" made voting online then someone would obviously hack it...

and you just talked on and on and on about bullshit

    please don't post another bulletin

you are what is wrong with the world...

  • America is still horrifically racist.

  • Democracy is a Jewish invention to control us all and make us think we have a choice. We dont! Hitler was true democracy

  • Hitler was true dictatorship. Idiot.

  • Everyone had a choice with Hitler! They could support him.. or be shot. See, choice.

I completely support real democracy apart from the fact that the government is constantly desperate for votes, and therefore usually address short term issues more than they do long term issues. Did that make sense? lol

  • That's probably one of the most ridiculous comments I've ever come across on YouTube.

  • Don't forget Stalin. He once proudly said that the only true way to salvation is Communism. Sadly shortly after that announcement he sent 10's of millions of people on an extended "career break" to Siberia.

So I don't know I am just not completely sold on the idea of an autocratic leader like Hitler or Stallin.

They make big promises and just when it seems like they about to deliver on those promises they go on a genocidal spree and plunge the country into a ruthless directorship.

  • you have a wide chin lol

  • I stand corrected he LIVED in Hawaii. but He's half white. So...therefore NOT black.

Even when I am wrong...I am still right.

    :o)

  • Are you gay?

  • 'democracy can appear not to work'

    no appearing.

    it just doesn't work

Your optimism is sort of endearing, but you ignore a lot. A few debates is not going to make up for the fact that we are all losing our civil rights and our governments are waging wars that are entirely undemocratic.

  • Do you feel it is a neccessity to write boy after everything in order to remind you of your gender?

  • love your vids jazza but i need to point out, how is the online voting going to work? i mean each computer has only 1 IP address, if the computers are alowed to vote more than once then that may cause an inacurate vote, i widly used browser called "firefox" has a refresh every 15 seconds setting meaning it can effectivly send a vote every 15 secconds...

anyways, love the idea though and like all ideas it just needs development i suppose

    KUPO ^_^

    Peace Out!

  • "Democracy is a form of government that substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few." George Bernard Shaw

  • There is NO such thing. Only a fool would think so! Do you think any of those idiots share MY beliefs? No. But the people that do share my opinion...are too poor or lack the connections to ever be a President.

As for Obama.I am distressed He is going to be president. And just for the record.HE is from Hawaii, he is NOT a black man.

I have white friends more black than he is.

BTW...the whole Joe the Plumber thing KILLS me.Have you ever HAD to PAY a plumber.Highway robbery it is!Think on that!

  • He lived in Hawaii, but he is not from there. His mother was a white American and his father was a black Kenyan.

  • Democracy is a myth.

  • No it isn't, it is real however it is unbalanced and corrupt.

  • I've tried to post a sensible reply but the system has thrown out my "over limit" comments..

This is our "democracy" in microcosm!!!!

If anyone offers to represent YOU ? -SHOOT THEM IMMEDIATELY !!

    Represent yourself! (good lad)

Drink Beer, Eat amimal fats and Smoke.

    Live, Enjoy, Die.

  • Please can everyone stop the negative comments, if you actually listen, he raises some good points....

  • I'd just like to point out that what we have is a faux-democracy. It isn't a democracy. Democracy is the idea that the government represents the people. It doesn't. I'll leave you with a quote from Proudhon: "The difference between a dictatorship and democracy, is that, in a dictatorship you don't have to waste your time voting".

  • Dude are you at uni, Your room thingy is very student halls-esque, You are so doing POLITICS HAHAHA, you are anoying...why Iam even watching all of your vidz aaaaaahhhhhhhhh.

I'm an entrepreneur/talent scout/student not a waster...Views on democracy all of our leaders come from Eton enough said, This a stark generalisation but you know what I mean...

  • Like all things democracy has ups and downs. My main problem with democracy is how deeply it has asserted itself as the greatest political system; so much so that people feel they don't even need to look for a new system. I suppose that post modern fractionalisation has kicked in leaving us with some kind of demo/merit/plutocracy. I'm still not sure if it works. I'm for noocracy although this too is riddled with problems. xXx

  • To be fair democracy is a hell of alot harder. "A dictatorship would be a hell of alot easier" George W. Bush.

  • Democracy is all well and good but it should be well checked as the general population are generally ill informed on pretty much everything. Therefore the Monarch and house of Lords should remain undemocratic, and remain more powerful than the houses of parliament.

  • Well, fair point, but with the rise in technology letting us be aware of more about the people we are voting for, it also comes up with things about them which may not be true, opinions stated as facts for example, this triggering rumours throughout the country and comprimising the amount of votes the politicians will recieve, this may end up in a wrong decision and trigger another world meltdown e.g. The credit Crunch. I'm not saying the bad decision in leader will be the reason, but ya know :D

  • HI ALL !!!!!

  • as far as i have noticed it technology has both helped and hindered democracy, its easier to vote now and using the internet we can learn more about our politicians than we used to but on the other hand they have the ability to learn more about us and what we want so they can seduce us better. the internet is capable of changing politics but at the moment nearly everyone ignores this capability and the mass media still control opinions

  • He makes so many sporadic hand gestures and facial expressions, typical traits of a fairly inhibited person, Youtube is a great outlet for a fairly introverted person like Jeremy here.

  • many global "democracies" are a myth. an example is Ejypt where it is common knowledge that the elections are rigged to elect a leader that works in the best interest of American leaders

  • OBAMA!!!! :D

  • the black pillars of doom!

  • I guess "our generation" will use all the media we can when "we" stand for elections...

  • Heyy I loved John Sergeant! :/

  • Reality tv season? When isn't it?

  • when you talk it makes me want to slap you.

  • Then don't watch x

  • then maybe he shouldn't talk shit about other videos.

but if it makes you feel better, i only watched about 20 seconds.

  • If you want the real truth, why not visit my channel or "nuffrespect" or "thealexjoneschannel" wake up and smell the coffee...

  • democracy has innate flaws in it with regards to how votes are being tallied sometimes like giving some people more votes than others, etc. in addition to your example about prop 8, sometimes, what the majority wants may not be in their best interests ie they do not have access to certain info that the elected elites have to make apt decisions. Nevertheless, if democracy is done fairly & the elected representatives do want the best for its people, thn democracy works.

  • 2:23 is brilliant.

ps: hand gestures ARE fun. <3

  • thank you soo much jazza

    awesome video ....

we watched it today in my politics lesson and me teacher was very impressed so thanks

    :D

    xxx

  • oh wow!

i'm in classrooms, that's so cool!

    :)

  • Bloody sheep, I've never seen so correct spellings on a single YouTube page. You ARE a clever bunch. I'm not terribly against txttlk, but it is a nice change.

As for your actual point, I agree with pretty much every point you've made... which is kind of boring. I'm really let down by Proposition 8 as it embodied everything the Obama win (for me, anyway) stood against.

  • I think it's a blessing in disguise. Light is being shed on the fact that there enequality that gay people have been putting up with and now they (and everyone else who thinks it is wrong) are actually starting to fight for what they want because of Prop 8 instead of just waiting for it to happen for them.

  • Well we can certainly hope. I think it's had some of its light actually taken off it by Obama's win though. As soon as I heard Obama was President Elect, I didn't want anything to tarnish they moment of hope for the world and so pushed Proposition 8 into a corner of my mind.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but it sadly hasn't seemed to be getting as much negative attention as it deserves. Maybe for the same reason...

  • That's true: /

  • I've been thinking that all year, how amazing it is that all these amazing things (in my opinion) are happening at a time when the world is more connected than it's ever been before! (just thought I'd share lol)... Nice post it note:P

  • I totally agree with u. I believe in the importance of this moment in history, and how people, in this case you, Americans, have shown how aware you are about the whole planet situation. (I'm talking about the elections, of course) I can say now that I love my generation, and I believe in the power we've got to make a better world. Hopefully, one day, through democracy, more people will be free :)

  • I love our generation too (millennials, I guess?) Not that the last two generations set the bar too high:P

  • i would call "our" generation hippie fuckers but meh xD honestly i think their are too many people defending things they have no idea about like tibet and such and im not sayin defending tibet is a bad thing i'm sayin most people defending it have no idea about the situation and people these days just want to be rebels because its the new trend they don't acctually understand or look at things further than what the media tells them our generation is good and bad at the same time

  • I wouldn't. You're painting with quite a broad brush. You don't know me or what I've looked at further. It's definitely not because I want to be some trendy hippie fucker or anything. I'm not getting defensive though, I'm not offended or anything, I just disagree.

  • i wasn't refering to you at all as obviously i don't know you their for i can't judge you i was talkin about alot of people i have met personaly who i do know ,some very well, that also talk about this new generation being so good. well most of the people i have met that have no idea about what they defend are young people in spain i've met people who do research and so on but the majority are just sheep who follow the media and trends like going on political marches which they no little about.

  • an unfortunetlyi've lived in england for my whole life until now until i turned 16 and i've met 1 or 2 young people who care about politics i'm not sayin people in england don't care couse that would be "painting with quite a broad brush" but living in london in a pritty shit concil estate full of kids who dought they will reach 22 i guess politics are the last thing to think about, maybe it has something to do with the schools or the parents but all i know is if it doesn't change london's doomed

  • Well of course there are people like that... I'm not saying there aren't. But there are also a lot of really great people (around me anyway) who do a lot great things for a lot of great causes that they are informed about. I can't say anything about anyone in England or Spain. I don't really think my generation is better than others, but I do love my generation and I think it is a great generation with a lot of potential.

  • awesome video <333

  • a fellow hater :) good to meet you sir

  • Happy RAPE YOUR WOMEN, EXTERMINATE YOUR PEOPLE, STEAL YOUR LAND and By The Way heres some SMALLPOX DAY! .........LETS NOT FORGET THE TRUTH

  • I agree dont forget the slave owneing democrats......

  • that was clever, razwillcox.

    very clever indeed.

  • Haha the ad under you says: "Why is your stomach fat?" Lol.

  • wow! that is the kind of videos I enjoy watching...I mean...youtube is not only about fun and random things...I agree with this lad...a great time to be alive! the world is shrinking thanks to the internet, and everyone is able to speak and to be heard...

  • And your hand gestures are adorable. ;D

  • Democracy to me is freedom. Freedom of religion as well as freedom FROM religion. Damn that stupid Prop 8. There's another aspect of this horrible thing that not everyone is aware of. It not only takes the rights away from gay couples but ANY couple who isn't married and merely has a domestic partnership. They're not just infringing the rights of one minority but of a majority. I was infuriated enough when I found out Prop 8 was on the ballot but now my expectant older sister is screwed. D=<

  • yes you are very optimistic.

you make very funny faces haha

did you see about the terrorist in Mumbai?

the news and how quickly we get it fascinates me.

  • Ok, here's the idea about democratic schools. There are some non-negotiables, like Math and English, but kids could choose what their best learning style is and how best to approach things. It's called, "Programs of Inquiry. It's not about a group voting on what everyone is going to do... It's everyone learning in a way that they can reach their full potential...

It sounds idealistic, I know, but it can be done.

  • Your optimism is very refreshing

  • my videos would be pretty pointless if i didn't do this. the debate and chat in the comments is where the magic happens

    :)

  • Yes, we here in the U.S. elected a black man president. Your turn!! 8)

  • haha, we had a woman in the 80s

    pwnd!

  • yeah and we all know how that turned out

  • Hahahaha there's a good point...

  • Oh you optimistic engadging little soul :) I agree with most of that & would video respond, but ah well Ali knows why I can't. Oh yh & HI ALI <3 u.

  • why couldn't everyone have set out their answers like this?

    lol

    very good answers too.

  • very well put, not perfect, but the closest thing to fair we've got.

  • unfourtunatly we americans may have an opiion of democrecy, but the demacratic britain is something of which we know almost nothing....... but we still love you.....both!!! so good luck on your biography.

  • Now is an amazing time to be alive "you've never had it so good"

  • Oh yay, Ally's great :D

I don't think democracy rlly works as a system. There should be a balance between 'experts' (aka the government) and the people. Like on X Factor, I guess. Bad similie.

I believe that if the people are a bunch of morons and don't know what's best for them, the state should take control. If the people are going to 'grow up' and get more politically active etc, they should have the right to vote.

I think that they have to earn it x3

  • Lol I think that sometimes too. But then how do you determine who earns the right to vote? You could have some kinda intelligence test but then that just puts massive power in the hands of the people who write the test... *sigh* democracy is complicated huh?

  • Exactly why we shouldn't be trying to be 'more democratic', and making it sound like a good thing. I'm going to ponder this for a bit, then create a revolutionary state of government which shall take over the UK, if not, the world.

  • In Denmark on the other hand, if a person gets 50,1% of the votes, the other political party who got 49,9% the votes won't just loose everything. They'll damn well get a huge part to say. And it isn't the poltical party with the 0.1% more votes than the other who have veto-power. Everybody have a voice and is giving a chance to change things. Okay maybe that didn't make sense but I'm danish so I don't usually speak English. But to sum up; Democracy is brilliant idea.

  • you made perfect sense.

  • In Denmark, basically, it's not you just the political party with the majority of the votes who'll win the election. That's the beauty of it. The smallest amount of people have the power to change what they think is wrong with this country or make others realize what it wrong. For example in the US a person can win the election with 50,1% of the votes and take EVERYTHING.

  • this is what i was saying about proportional representation. it is how a lot of europe works contrasted with the 'winner takes all' approach of places like the UK and US. Proportional representation avoids two party systems and gives more choice to the voters and represents them more realistically

  • the first things that appears in my mind when I think of the word 'democracy' is 'Freedom of Speech' and 'Everyone have the power to change things'

  • I dislike democracy, because I believe that it just removes the responsibility for making the right decisions from someone truly capable and gives it to the people, so there will in fact be not unpopular decisions - and the government's hands are clean and they can say "but that was your choice"

On the other hand, I realize that nothing better has been thought of yet, and if it has, then it must be impossible to actually set up.

In an ideal world, I would like a monarchy with a talented ruler.

  • I think democracy is the easiest way to avoid the abuse of power though. and whether you think they make the 'right' decision, i am still a firm believer that everyone deservs to have a say in how they are ruled. and with a monarchy, what are the chances of getting a talented ruler? genes are not that consistent.

  • That was my thought as well, but I ran out of the letter count thingy. On the other hand, it is often that there are some unpopular decisions to be made that are ultimately right for the country, so that party will probably not get the vote.

But the type of government also depends a lot on the national charachter, if that makes sense. Russia is not a country meant for democracy, it just does not work. On the other hand, the US is perfectly cut out for it. Have you ever noticed that?

  • yes very much so. I could not see true democracy surviving either in russia or somewhere like china. it just works diferently there.

  • And it is not plausible because of corruption, etc. The electoral college is not technically BOUND to vote the way their county/state votes.

Technology has made the people more informed when it comes to democracy, but I also think that tech has created too much mudslinging. People think that they know what an amendment of proposal is about because they watch the biased commercials, when in reality, both sides are covering up the truth.

This is just me, with my "democracy is impossible" rant.

  • I would prefer if there were powers ot make sure that representitives made sure they knew they were representing, and not using this for their selfishness... that made little sense, and is also very naive but i am very tired

    :P

  • Democracy, to me? Gosh, this is a tough question. I think that democracy is an ideal that we Americans strive to achieve, but I also think that it is kind of impossible. Going back to the original "democracy" in Greece, they had this term "stasis"(with a funny accent that makes it look Greek-er) that happened quite a lot, and it basically was just stasis in a decision or vote because too many people voted, or whatever. I think that representative democracy is also a good idea, but not plausible.

  • I agree.

  • I have to admit I have taken part in RogueBlueJay's thing and I would say that Democracy is really important to the welfare of the country without we wouldnt have a fair government, it would be more corrupt.

Now Im very mixed about the technology where I say it is good to get their stories out straight away but Stories can be leaked out of their personal lives that they dont want the public to know about.

    Great video Jazza.

  • good points, barry

    ;)

  • In last election my country (Finland) had, only about 65% voted. It's embarrasing. I turned 18 this year and I was so happy to have a chance to vote.

I'm just wondering, how on earth can democracy work in my country if only 65% vote? Ok, this election wasn't exactly the most important we have, but still.

I don't like any of the other options there are besides democracy, so I guess I just have to deal with it.

Did this even have anything to do with the topic? Who knows.

  • the point of democracy is that you don't have to have a say if you don't want to, although there are countries where it is illegal to not vote. and I think it is exciting that so many young people these days want to vote and have their voices heard and actually have opinions to BE heared. like i said, very exciting

  • DJE - It's a big deal because it DIDN'T happen before.

  • "I'm horribly optimistic :D" Love you so much, Jaz !

Very well explained, with hand gestures.

Are you sure Alistair isn't your long lost brother ?

  • yes very much so, lol

  • Yes, to which bit ?

  • A couple of things.

    1) When i make my video response, you'd like me to post it on his video yes?

    2) Online voting, how do you know it's the real person voting. Makes election fraud much easier

    3) Cool hair ;)

  • 1) yes please

    2) we can put together something like online banking that is secure, why can't we put into practice something secure for voting. there are so many options here.

    3) fanx

  • 1) will do look out for that later

2)but online banking isn't secure and elections are much bigger and would therefore would be targeted by rich political parties

    3) my pleasure

4)isn't this a nice way of doing comments?

  • 1) good, you should

    2) of corse it isn't 100% secure, but nothing is, if anything it is going to be more viable than paper voting. In my opinion online banking is very secure. online buying however isn't.

    4) i think it should be law

    5) terrorist attacks in Mumbai, check it out.

  • 1) not going to address that we've already done that

    2) Fair enough but it will require some work

    3) 1,2 4? Jaz can count!

4/5) I know it's shocking stuff, there's a delegation of 20 Australians as yet unaccounted for from the NSW department of trade as well as tourists, thoughts to those families of the 80 or so dead

  • i think democracy in escence, is just a way for government to make people think they are in control. i don't think that voting is particularly fair (as in, i think the results are probably controlled by a third party) , which is why i was very surprised when Obama won... am i paranoid?

  • i want to see gordon brown do a debate on blogtv! that would be worth watching!

  • haha, omg yes!

  • Now IS an amazing time to be alive, but I did like they last few times I was alive too

  • lolz

  • fanx

    <3

  • its 16x9

  • The thing on Prop 8...

Don't ALL elections decide the fate of SOME minority?

  • yes, they do, and that is the essence of the failing...

  • Your answers are great as always! :D

  • thanks for doing this man! Not the best photo of my tho haha!

  • yeah... kinda deliberate. I can't have people thinking I like you or anything

    :P

  • oh yes! We have firmly established to the YouTube community that we are not, nor will we ever be friends.

    Wait a minute...

  • this is the first time that politics have ever been interesting to me...that is why i subbed to this channel..i too am optimistic that by watching your videos it will help me to form an opinion...and may be just maybe i well vote next time there is an election

  • p.s. thanks jazza

  • aww, you're welcome. yay!

  • Democrasy failed here in new Zealand when The majority (89%) protested no, and yet the government passed it as law anyway! If we had the chance to vote for it I think It would not have passed! But our Government like to call ourselves democracy when we dont act like it!

  • what was passed sorry?

  • here in NEW Zealand the government had an idea to Remove the argument of Reasonable forse on a child, there for it would then be illegal to smack or even touch a child, even for discipline! 89% of our country protested against the passing of this law, and yet it went ahead anyway! I do believe there are videos about the protests right here on youtube!

It is sad when a said democrasy goes AGAINST the majority for the minority!

  • and we didnt even get to vote upon the passing of this law, government coalitions went behind us and passed it without the people!!

  • I agree with your optimism. New technology makes it much easier for people to get involved and makes it easier to access information. It's very exciting.

  • I think technology has helped our democracy.

Being able to vote on American Idol via my Tracfone is an experience for the ages.

The drive-thru window at Taco Bell is an invention that staggers the mind!

World of Warcraft is a game that doesn't discriminate, and it allows you to experience life as no human could do.

The number of technologies that have altered and supported our democracy are almost to numerous to name. Wow!

  • haha, i love your examples

    :P

  • I was wondering if there was something wrong with my screen or did u just post about 20 msg's on ur own video in one go? lol :@) Ur right though.

  • 1. Even if my opinion isn't popular it's still heard and taken into account.

    2. I think people are more able to hear strong arguments for all sides from people impassioned about those arguments. Previously, it's possible that you'd only have heard opinions that were similar to your own and/or those of the politicians who want your vote. It makes issues feel more personal when you hear individuals giving you their personal stories of why they hold their views.

  • very good answers. beautifully but for no1

  • I find it really impressive how aware you are specifically of American politics: prop 8, joe the plumber. It's a little embarressing that a british person is more knowledgable than the average American. kudos

  • haha, thanks, but this is kinda my thing. american politics is very exciting at the moment. I can't help but stick my nose in

    :P

  • I'd like to discuss politics but I doubt I'd be very coherent right now seeing how I'm not sure what day it is.

  • wednesday

  • Haha, you used such a flattering picture of the rouge blue jay.

Its funny that Obama's victory is being attributed in part to the internet since the last Democrat to win, Bill Clinton, did so by effectively using MTV.

  • he is getting a plug, he can't complain :P

I don't remember the clinton years so therefore can't comment. I was too busy watching thomas the tank engine.

  • he is getting a plug, he can't complain :P

    Haha so true

  • Britain has just started breaking into the use of internet as a form of democracy i say this because recently in many of the uk stickam rooms including mine, the borzoi's and Blade376.

Members of the BNP keep entering under names such as 'James' and 'Gary' (Very British names) and asking what we thought of the their party and tried to argue that they are not racist, and our country is being robbed by immigrants lol.

Luckily we all have minds of our own.

But i thought i would share this with you.

  • next time that happens call me, I would love to have that conversation with a BNPer.

  • I would love to be part of that conversation. I would not be very nice to them. And that's an understatement...

  • being a canadian citizen, democracy is really important to me. I just hope in the future the rest of the world realizes that all people are people, and we ALL deserve the same rights as everyone else.

Just cause someone is a different race or sexuality than the majority in whichever country they reside doesn't mean they are any less of a person.

  • Yes. I am happy Obama is our President Elect. I am doing a grad paper on creating democratic schools. Do you think that's a good idea? Students have a voice in deciding what and how they learn? Parents? How about it? Do you think it would work?

  • That definately sounds exciting, and I am definately for children having a dialogue and a say n what is taught to them. there would, however, have to be guidelines set out. for example keeping core materials like maths and english. also making sure that there isn't a 'winner takes all' policy in voting for subjects. some people don't want to learn home economics for example, and therefore shouldn't have to etc...

  • online voting is a GREAT idea, but just think of the mess that would result

the turnout of prop 8 made it clear that human rights don't extend to everbody in this country. love is love no matter who it's between. what possible harm could come out of two people getting married?

democracy should be the SEPARATION of religion and state. i am religious but inflicting personal religious views on the whole population is wrong. since when was catholicism the countrys official religion anyways?

  • the US was founded on Protestant views. Protestants supposedly broke away from Catholicism, but still share most of their core beliefs. hence, marriage between one man and one woman. it's a christian belief that marriage is only between 2 people. other religions allow more than one partner. but the US doesn't allow more than one marriage partner at a time.

interesting fact - at one point CHristmas was against the law.

  • it just seems to me that since america is the "melting pot" with so many cultures and religions, that there should not be specific beliefs to govern all the people. i'd like to think that we've moved on from any kind of discrimination.

  • I to am very much for the separation of politics and religion, otherwise things get messy. but then that separation can also present problems, just look at france and the issues that had not do long ago with the muslim head scarf.

gay marriage to me is simply a decision as to whether gay people have the same human rights or not. In so many countries they do not.

  • love this
