Nope.. That is why u need to back up everything 1st then do the jailbreak process..just sync it back after that, then you'll be fine :)

also using iTunes 8, and when I get to the final stage DFU mode, it says it doesn't detect the iPod (funny itshould be iPhone) then it has an unknown error of 2001. Please help.

U hv done something terribly wrong my fren. The pwnage tool 2.2 is only to jailbreak firmware 2.2 not the 2.1. This is the name of the correct firmware iPhone1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ips­w

Yes I have used this restore. What else do I need to do? I even downloaded the 10.5.6 fix where it makes iTunes do the DFU mode correctly.

I restored my iphone 2G from Itunes 8 Apple restore from 2.1 system. Then I followed as you say but there seems to be error 21. What have I done wrong?????

Did that TONS of time...and each time...i get the same error message...error message 21...saying that the recovery had an error...i used Pwnage exactly like you showed...and got like 5 of them made...and all 5 of them just will not work...no matter how many times i try it, it will not go through all of the way...i will probably just try it with firmware 2.1...see where it leads me...

Hopefully u r downloading the correct firmware.

The pwange tool 2.2 is only meant for jailbreaking firmware 2.2 and vice versa with the firmware 2.1

hey...what do i do if it won't restore??...i got into DFU mode, and i got into the itunes...but when it gets ready to restore it, an error message pops up and doesn't go all the way through...my sims card isn't activated...or well it is...just not an iphone sims...i use it for another ATT phone...just wondering...

Just re-plugin your device and re-open your itunes. Press alternate/option and then click restore. Find the mod firmware you've just created then hit enter..

Hv u finished doing the jailbreaking process correctly? Look at your Bootneuter settings, check the neuter bootloader, uncheck update bootloader, check unlock baseband and lastly check auto delete bootneuter.app. This onlly apply if u r using pwange tool 2.2 and you jailbreak from 2.1 version.

Dont worry man..hehe. First u have to re-plug in your device n re-open itunes, your mac will recognize ur iphone straight away to dfu mode. then u clicl the 'option' button hold it n press restore, a window will pop up asking you to select the mod firmware that you've just created. Click on the firmware and you good to go.. Btw, which mac version r u using? 10.5.5 or 10.5.6?
