Movie(s). There are going to be 2 Hobbit movies? That's about 15 hours of f---ing middle earth. I'll wait for DVD, as I am long attatched emotionally to the Rankin/Bass production.

So I think I know "bestest" when I say that a movie based on an English masterpiece should not be directed by a guy who can never understand the subtlety of the English language because he is not a native speaker.

My point being that I don't need to be able to spell every single word in the spanish and english language correctly to be considered a fluent speaker. In case you didn't understand my last comment (I doubt you did): English and Spanish are not my native languages therefore I will NEVER reach the level of a native speaker, but I can assure you my english is good enough compared to that of many americans.

i dont understand how they are going to make 2 movies that does not make sense they say its going to be a ramp that pull all the moves togethe but there are only 4 books not counting the silmrillion which all it was was prolougue are they just gonna make the second movie up or what
@The1uptriforce Did you not lsiten, he said the first movie is going to mainly be all the subject pertaining from the Hobbit, for the most part, while the second film will be the 'ramp' into the LOTR trilogy, this means they are probably going to be making some stuff up, or digging thru all of Tolkien's work to try and find out as much as they can between the time of the end of The Hobbit and LOTR, at least that's how I see it.

They now do both of the movies about Hobbit, and add in here and there scenes that happen at the same time as the Hobbit, mainly the White Council and it's businness with the Necromancer. Also they'll show some of the stuff that happened prior the Hobbit, such as Gandalf sneaking into Dol Guldur and getting the map and the key. :)

Where did you hear this, I must go and investigate myself now lol, i'm especially intrested in the White Council, and Gandalf sneaking into Dol Goldur, not much is mentioned in the book if I remember correctly, just vague statements, reffering to Gandalf obtaining it in some dangerous place. So the secind movie is going to centre on Gandalf going into Sauron's other fortress, Dol Gulder, finding Thror in the dungeons and exposing the necromancer as Sauron. Interesting.

@laurek01 The amount that New Zealand has made from the huge tourism boost from LOTR, and the additional boost that it will receive because of the hobbit, is more than worth the millions of dollars the government spent on it. This is directly giving thousands of people in New Zealand a job, and indirectly creating countless more because of the hundreds of thousands of tourists.
Now, the second film... it would need to be perfectly embedded to embrace the LoTR otherwise it would be a disaster. I personally believe this is a very difficult thing to achieve... but I have hopes.

@nat00ben06, oddly enough I have to agree with you. He was great as Mr. Tumnus in "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe" so he could be a character that needs cosmetic prostetics but is still recognizable. He showed he can kick ass in "Wanted". And he really showed off his acting chops when he did, "Atonement". I think that whatever they cast him for (if they do cast him, which would be awesome) he'd be up for the task.
I'm glad that Gueillmoro del Toro is directing this one, he directs beautifully, ( the orphanage, Pans Labyrinth) they are great and beautiful movies so this one should be as well... :)

@DarkNekromant agreed, It's not really a story it's just scrap of loose information gathered togheter and put into a book. It's more like a history book not a real story. I think it's quit impossible to put everything into one movie. It would take lot's and lot's of movies to fully show the silmarilion.

@rayraymark Tolkien did write things that connected the events of The Hobbit to those of Lord of the Rings. For example, Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age (The Silmarillion) tells about Gandalf and the White Council, and The Quest of Erebor (Unfinished Tales) is about Gandalf and Thorin meeting and discussing the Azog, the assassination of Thrain, the plan retake the mountain, and Gandalf's recommendation of Bilbo. You probably already know all this; I just love discussing Tolkien.

@The1uptriforce Did you not lsiten, he said the first movie is going to mainly be all the subject pertaining from the Hobbit, for the most part, while the second film will be the 'ramp' into the LOTR trilogy, this means they are probably going to be making some stuff up, or digging thru all of Tolkien's work to try and find out as much as they can between the time of the end of The Hobbit and LOTR, at least that's how I see it.

They now do both of the movies about Hobbit, and add in here and there scenes that happen at the same time as the Hobbit, mainly the White Council and it's businness with the Necromancer. Also they'll show some of the stuff that happened prior the Hobbit, such as Gandalf sneaking into Dol Guldur and getting the map and the key. :)

Hmmm I need to re-read that book now. XD

He was great as Mr. Tumnus in "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe" so he could be a character that needs cosmetic prostetics but is still recognizable. He showed he can kick ass in "Wanted". And he really showed off his acting chops when he did, "Atonement". I think that whatever they cast him for (if they do cast him, which would be awesome) he'd be up for the task.

For example, Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age (The Silmarillion) tells about Gandalf and the White Council, and The Quest of Erebor (Unfinished Tales) is about Gandalf and Thorin meeting and discussing the Azog, the assassination of Thrain, the plan retake the mountain, and Gandalf's recommendation of Bilbo. You probably already know all this; I just love discussing Tolkien.
