The lyrics in this song to me indicate Aaron had possibly just finished reading the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. Father Gomez ("Scum of God") was sent to kill, by the church ("sent by the lord"), Lyra ("the Chosen one""Golden Girl") who in the book, is indeed identified to be the Chosen One (allegorically, Eve). At the end, he's unsuccessful, being drowned by the angel Balthamos. ("there he lay, for his god, a final time").

But I could be entirely wrong too.

I too, apply his Dark Materials to many stances in my life, and therein lies so much poetry and totally enthralling tales. Aaron is a wordsmith, and it seems right up his street, in all fairness. The great thing about music is that you can read into it what you want; if Aaron had disclosed any meaning behind this song, you might not have contrived that awesome analysis!
