they are so cool! When I was a kid, one came up to our neighbor's dock and I got a chance to pet it~ That one, however, didn't roll over like this one did. haha, so cute!
The fact that he rolled over was so playful and almost like he was hamming it up. He was so amazing, so beautiful. I am truly honored that he let us see him.
wow! you are so lucky to get this footage! I used to go down to Hilton head - Sea Pines on vacation every Spring with my parents a few years back - saw loads of alligators, some dolphins & porpoises, but never saw a Manatee! I would love to see that. is it rare to see them? must be, because nobody ever mentioned the possibility of seeing one, as far as I can remember
No. Probably not. They like to float at the surface, sometimes upside down, to rest (dolphins do this too). And as for it being in Hilton Head, I assume this was early summer, so he was probably just exploring the warmer waters. It's not unheard of for manatees to travel even farther north. Wherever there is warm water, they'll be there.
I never knew that about manatees. We were a bit concerned for him. He seemed ok to me but strange that he was that far inland. And yes, it was early summer, at the of May last year. He was so beautiful. Seeing him was such a highlight of my life.
We think it was a fluke that he was there. It was incredible to see him though. He seemed to be drinking the water that was coming out of the ice machine.
Oh I know, it was so beautiful. He was just there drinking some of the water that was coming out of the ice machine. And then, just as the sun was setting, he swam back out into the harbor. I'll never forget it as long as I live.
I have to say next to seeing the Grand Canyon this was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. He was smaller than I had expected. I have never seen one in life before. It was amazing. Thanks for viewing!!

Aw, he knew you were taping him so he rolled over to impress you. Big ham. ;-)
Anarquistador 3 years ago
He does seem like a ham, doesn't he?
sidian3 3 years ago
so, did he eventually leave?
incused 3 years ago
yes, he eventually swam under the dock and then into shallow water before turning and heading out into the harbor. It was amazing.
sidian3 3 years ago
Really Really cool. I'd love to have seen that.
