Those wagons are great, My folks had a midnight blue Caravelle that my dad swapped out the 318 for a 383 whenI was a kid, Wicked cool family hauler. Was a total sleeper!
We use to have the Plymouth Caravelle (Canadian version of the Diplomat and LeBaron). My grandfather bought it new, gave it to my dad and then I ended up learning to drive on it.
It had the Slant 6 in it. From 1978 to 2003 (when the insurance company wanted a bunch of stuff done to it, and it was going to cost a fortune) when we sold it, it never once saw a tow truck. The only thing after all that time that did it was the insurance. It just didn't want to die.
Mine is pretty well optioned, but has the crushed velour interior. Still fairly plush, and it has survived remarkably well......... there seemed to have been more LeBaron T&C wagons built. Those turn up occasionally, but I almost never see the Dip Wagons anymore. Took me five years to find the correct taillight.........
I have a '79 Diplomat wagon same color (met. red) as in the commercial. Mine is the only Dip Wagon I have seen, either not many were built, or their survival rate is quite low. We put a police car rear end in it, and it really hauls with the 318. I'm amazed at the attention this car draws. THANKS for posting!
@MarkinDC I use to prep these cars when they were new. 79 was the first year for the Wagon, the second year wasn't as strong in sales as the first year, 7785 sold in 79 and only about 3600 in 80. 3012 in 1981 and then it was over for the Dip wagon, discontinued after that. I always loved them, I thought they were very luxurious on the inside, particularly with the nice plush leather seating as an option. I've seen a few on ebay over the years, they are very rare now.
I owned two of these. The first one I bought new in 1978, a station wagon. The second one, a 1977 coupe I bought off my brother-in-law. I miss them both dearly. I would love to have another wagon, 1978, of course.

1978 was actually the first full year for the M-body LeBaron/Diplomat, being introduced as late 1977 models in April 1977.
