i almost exclusively go to one of the best teaching hospitals in the country & doctors & nurses, etc. are pretty educated about trans stuff (don't know about intersex) & if they aren't want to learn. my pcp decided to take on hrt & so she learns from me, she researches on her own, she teaches med students, her nurses have been along for my whole hrt ride. my pcp is trying to get me lined up to speak to the "human sexuality" semester course where trans*/intersex is covered which i hope happens!
Its fun to sit back and watch people talk shit. And I agree A&P doesnt cover much. Many RNs dont know anything about intersex. its something that MDs are more aware of. anyway. it feels like a soap box so i will get off it. But congrats man.
@AodhanChance - I'm not far in my medical training as you and K here but I see what you all are talking about in basic A&P...so as a budding RN I WILL make it point to have intersex, TG, TS knowledge...all the aspects. I have been lucky to stumble across a research prof that is helping me this terms paper...basically how medical professionals in general need to have a basic knowledge.
@AodhanChance I came across a very interesting journal article proposing that TG studies and all that that term encompases , should be part of a standard part of studies...of course I can't get access to my school email to link the article...interesting none-the-less..
Yes we all need to do our part to inform, and educate. This is not just the medical field. but it is a shame when the medical field lacks the information so vital to many members of their community.
lol I recall our friend nikki posting and asking why ftms wont date lesbians and that she is very interested in a certain ftm, but all that while she has a gf? Who she ended up cheating on like the day after? The same gf who got on your jock? Seriously wtf is wrong with these people? I couldnt even trust someone like that as a friend, I removed both of them O_O
You are so right, I was just talking to a few of my friends about this. There needs to be a lot more awareness and education about human anatomy and Intersexed people. I am also tired of tranny chasers, theyre as bad as those racial fetishizers, like those who will only date a certain skin color because they have a fetish for the light/dark contrast. We are all people, not things to fetishize about.
