  • 120km/h closing speed...means equivalent of 60km/h into a stationary deformable barrier. What's so great about this car? If both was 120km/h that would mean 240km/h closing speed. The impact would destroy both cars.

  • SAAB worlds most safest cars... and this was year 2000

  • Wonder why Saab is likely to go out of business?

  • Shown what they are designed to withstand! Steering column collapses instead of going into your chest, The Engine is forced down and under the bulk head instead of sitting on your lap, The windscreen is far enough away so you never strike it! The inbuilt roll cage and the front crumple zones stops everything else! - And when hit by High Speed Trains, The lucky Saab driver OPENS the car door to get out and report the accident!

  • i was startled when i suddenly heard them collide.

  • @BaddyCity my guess is you drive an Opel?

  • Talk about killing two shit hideous birds with one stone..

  • @glennauii Ha ha, thats funny.

  • @BaddyCity They do?....I would like to hear the negatives since you know a lot about them. I was thinking about getting one and could use some advice. What else should I get?

  • @BaddyCity so do you! but you more.

  • @RandomShow585 You're mother sucks more ;) ...

  • better than a Volvo!

  • i feel soo much safer

  • both vehicles at 120 km/h or both have 60 km/h and total was 120 km/h? T_T

  • @coupdegrac3 they were going with 60kmh. With 120kmh they would fly in the air

  • @coupdegrac3 no, its still a 75mph crash.

  • It seems like 64 kph doesn't it ?

  • waaauuuwww!!!!

  • bulit like a fucking tank thats why i only by saab

  • I wonder how well the cars would hold up at closing speeds closer to 160km/h or 200km/h, because the speed limit on undivided motorways in many countries is 80 or 100km/h.

  • ya i was in a saab and hit a brick wall while i was drunk driving going about 145...I only died.

  • @adulby lmao

  • as a saab owner i want too know 1 thing if they are made by a company that also made jet fighters where in the hell is my ejection seat???

  • this is not 40% offset like in euro ncap, so i the euro ncap crash test it is not as safe...but it still is safe...

  • I got dibs on the stereo, the compass, the SID, and oh yeah, the seats too! :P

  • The g-forces must be huge in that collision

  • that is NOT 75mph

  • @kokowheelman that is the closing speed...they both are travelling 37.5 mph and at the point where they crash it is a closing speed of 75 mph

  • 60 + 60kmh not 120kmh. You look a crash test Volvo with BMW in Fifth Gear.

  • Hiting a wall at 120 is not like hiting 60+60 cars... its pure physics

    (60km/h) car >>>>> wall

    (60km/h) car >>>>> <<<<< car (60km/h)

    Its the same impact

  • wat up wit the fake sound ? I literally LOLed

  • two cars crash into each other with 60KM.

    in fact, that was a 60KM crash , not a 120km!

  • @whyoyo the closing speed is the speed of both cars when they hit combined do some research you stupid prick

  • who won? the red or the silver?

  • i'm so glad i have a saab 9-5 -00

  • saab 9-3 safety

  • You realize it's 2 9-5's right? lol... Just sayin'.

  • i want to see saab 9-3 test..

  • Try that with 2 Corvettes

  • RIP SAAB

  • Insert comment about sludge here..

  • This is a good result! seriously!

  • hey what is the year on the red one and the gray one

  • 1989 - early 2001

  • wow i was think ing2003 or 2005

  • ooh, i mean 1998 - early 2001.. sry

  • its cool

  • Safe cars, one of the reasons I own one, the other reason is they're just awesome cars.

  • .....O_O are you kidding me? if you knew anything then you would know the romours about OLD volvo's being safe...

ford were much safer than volv back then and still are safer not by much, but still safer...

  • Well. That depends about what u think about safety. Im not defending volvo's. Personally i dont like them. But in one thing im right, volvos were and still being one of the most safest cars in the world. Cmon they were the inventors of the safety belt as we know it. And they still invented some more safety features, as like the automatic braking!

They are the only car manufacturer, that when one of their cars get involved in an accident, to send a team of specialists. At least in Stockholm.

  • ok, ok you win...i can't be bothered to argue anymore...aslong as you just please, leave me alone?

  • Ford owns Volvo and I think they are using Volvo safety in their newer cars or atleast going to. Also the SMART may be very strong but it doesn't necessarily mean its safe. The car is soo small it rebounds violently and because of its size, the passengers will take a lot of force.

  • @jaffacake1578 -- the problem is that most cars will pass the official NCAP crash tests with flying colors. The proof is in the pudding and it takes time before a given car has experienced enough accidents before you can start looking at the statistics. Folksam.se publishes such statistics, and there you'll find that the 9-5 is considered 30%+ safer than the avg car. Until 2009 it was the only car in its class with such a rating. (and... The 2010 9-5 is a completely new vehicle too...)

  • Elles sont pas à 120 km/h, vu la déformation de leurs carrosseries, je dirais pas plus de 70 km/h...

  • Each car is going about 37.5MPH, the closing speed is how fast the cars are coming at each other.

  • Looks like 64 km.

  • wow i thought that if u gofaster than a 60 mph u ll die

  • 70 km.

  • Lol! :D

  • haha u can´t be serious

  • nice...but my 2008 taurus would be safer...

  • i actully dont think it will be. Those saabs have got a very strong passenger cell i saw ur car on insitute for highway safety, the passenger cell deformed a bit but the saabs bearly deformed

  • They took it pretty well.

  • if two cars frontal crashes to each other and both as 60 km/h speed, then the total speed is like 120 km /h i´ve heard. maybe that what he meant..

  • well that proved that even during the 90's, saabs 9-5 had a really good frontal crash test rating

  • no way this is at 120km/h, more like at 65km/h combined, just search fifth gear video where they crash two cars of the nineties at 100km/h and they're like five times more worse

  • copy this in search bar:

    Extreme crash BMW vs Volvo

  • i have already seen that on fifth gear...it was cool...

  • what the same cars

  • huh???

  • was that on fifth gear?

  • no i was saying about the bmw crash test vs volvo at 60 mph...

  • that is not 120 kmh :S maaaan's xD 60-70kmh atleast

  • 1:28 - bad synchro ;D

  • I currently own a 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero Sedan. I hope I never have the misfortune of putting this test to trial, but it feels good that someone is thinking of my occupants and I. I must address some of the shit talk with regard to VW and their safety rating. I had a 2000 Jetta GLX VR6. I lost control at 90 mph after being cut off and brake checked. I rolled down an embankment on the drivers side, and slid into a tree only being stopped by the driver's side pillar. I was not scratched. Thanks

  • those klingon rims are some of the best looking rims ever made, such a shame

  • 1:28

  • problem solved

  • kardeşim yavaş çekim oldundan insana yavaş gelior ama 120 km gerçekten saab dünyanın en sağlam arabası

  • Saabs are very good cars safety wise, I was unlucky enough to have been caught in a head on collision with a drunk driver and walked away in slight shock. Their cars are built like tanks.

  • @cmorebut true. my father had same situation head collision on 90 kmh. Wasnt wearing safety belt and god only some scratches.

  • @cmorebut Just like Volvos... Swedes are great cars

  • eğer gerçekten 120 ise hızlar, muhteşem derecede başarılı, güvenlik açısından.

  • THUNDER crumble

  • i have a saab, and i got into a 3 car accident...one car hit me from the side one from the front...my car barely had any damage and i walked away with some whip lash...seriously saabs are one of the safest cars ever!

  • the same thing happened to me and my family, but we got hit in the side by a truck with a snow plow on it, and that pushed us head on into another car!

the plow cut through the side doors of the car and shattered my window, but we were all fine, i just had whip lash!

    it saved our lives!

  • @lostinaparkinglot

    Agree witch you !!!

  • This cannot be a 75 miles per hour crash.

    Cars would have wrecked apart.

  • Have u ever heard about swedish quality?

  • exactly sparrisen : )

  • yep they are lying to the whole world!

  • pelotillox // hmm how old are you? lol 75mph closing speed means that when the speeds of both cars are added, it's 75 mph.

so each car was probably go at around 60km/h or 37.5mph. if each car was going at 75mph and the closing speed was 150mph when they crash front to front, you will die in almost any vehicle on the market today. no questions asked.

you know school is not an option...

  • Old enough to have attended to medical school and to have seen and experienced (as a doctor) the sequels of a crash at this speed.

Leg amputations (in the car), brain trauma, coma, tension pneumothorax, traumatic aortic rupture... All this I have treated in drivers hit at less than 75 mph. With seat-belt and airbag.

That video is not a 75mph hit, I can assure you.

  • And by the way: chill out man, I think I was pretty respectful in my comment. Maybe morons like you forget to learn respect at school.

  • pelotillox // lol you are a doctor? you mean a male nurse at best lol

the video clearly says 75mph closing speed and you are just trying to cover up your stupidity by lying that you are a doctor lol. you know doctors have to take 2 semesters of college physics before applying to medical school. stuff like closing speed appears in junior high physics class.

sir you have failed madly! haha

  • Whatever you say man, whatever. First of all I'm Spanish, so i didn't take the 2 semesters you say.

On the other hand, watch some hits at 75 mph.

    Bye bye loser.

  • the video clearly said 75mph closing speed not 75mph crash speed

    so study english cabron :)

  • Hahahahaaaaa pelotillox what a fucking dumbass

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE EXPRESSION CLOSING SPEED MEANS?!

SECONDLY, DO YOU KNOW WHAT A SAAB IS DESIGNED TO TAKE?

    fucking IDIOT!

  • pelotillox, were both cars (in the case you quote) going 75mph or was that the combined speed? In this video, 120 kph seems to be the combined speed.

Folksam (a big insurance company) rates the SAAB 9-5 as at least 30% safer than the average car. So this is absolutely not the same as hitting something while driving a Ford or VW.

My dad was in a 9-5 that hit a moose at 80 kph. No problem at all. (it is comparable to taking on a small car with your windshield)

  • ya its awesome idk how they do it!? like i was cutting th bumper off my 9000 th other day cause i got a new one cause the old one was cracked and it was all foam insaide and im like wtf and yet there like super awesome at crash tests? idk its prolly sum weird space foam! lol love the audio btw lol

  • @bikedude74 Haha, I did'nt need to check your profile to know that you where norwegian, lol, hit by a moose, only in Norway....

  • @KillanatorVids -- the point is that Saab tests for these sort of things. They try not only to pass the official NCAP tests, but also a number of other less predictable events. The strong A-pillar helps not only against moose, but a number of other problems. Keep in mind that the A pillar sits between your upper body (and head) and whatever you're bumping into... (The accident I mentioned, happened in Sweden fwiw)

  • @bikedude74 what was the saab like after it hit the moose?

  • @tom201090 All the windows smashed and the passengers were all covered with small pieces of glass. The A-pillar held its ground though and the moose remained on the outside. Google "saab history moose collision 900" and you might find the ABC News story that explains how the A-pillar is reinforced on Saabs.

  • and you hear the crash before the crash

  • it's a pretty damn safe car :D

  • I believe it is a combined speed of both cars traveling at 60 km/h.

  • well, you are right its fake, cause if it were 75 mph, the cars would disintegrate

but it probably is a little more than 15

  • ever heard of a high speed camera, it makes things move slowly so that we can see them.

  • i know its in slo mo.... it the damage that was done that didnt seem right

  • Comment removed

  • All windshields stayed in place. Amazing.

  • bad crash

  • Is that speed really true. It's very hard to believe if you compare the 64kmh results from Euro NCAP.

  • EPIC VIEW OF CRASH TEST!!!

  • The added "crash noise" is annoying...

  • that's what i call a safe car.

  • Yup! I drive one of those...

  • wich one? Both of 'em seem pretty messed up..

  • well it was snowing and ONLY 10 o by the way im 13 and it was the saab 95 and yeah but i will oways like saab my dad was not hurt LOLzz

  • my dad was going 10 mph and hit the car and it was toatled i was sad

  • what car?

  • 60Km/h→ ←60Km/h

  • The cars drives 60km/h, thats means togheter it is 60+60= 120km/h

I have sen a dvd from saab when they tell about the speed and everything.

The dvd was to show how the all thing start and begins with a new model.. in this case it was 9-5.

  • thats pretty good

  • I think they meant 120km combined not each car going @ 120 km / hr

  • Could we also see the state of the inside of both cars after the crash to see if it was still "life habitable"?

  • Yep you can see that the both driver cockpits remained in tact for this test, not sure about leg unjuries though although i would extect both drivers to walk away from this accident with only whiplash injuries.

  • 70mph, I doubt it, more like 30mph

  • 40 mph

  • 45 btch

  • 37mph each with a combined speed of 74mph to be exact. :)

  • im buliding that kind of cars

  • On June 23rd 2008 I crashed in a Saab 9-3 vector on the highway going 145km/hr with a tree. I fractured my right leg, right hand and nose, but was walking without help in two months. MY SAAB SAVED MY LIFE, THANKS SAAB FOR BUILDING A GREAT CAR.

  • I'm impressed! :-)

  • I mean that some dont have in front of the window

  • wheres the side airbags? i dont see the curtains coming down.

  • it is not every car that haves airbags.

some choose to not have it, som just have it in the seat, like Saab.

  • side airbags in these models is contained within the seat and deploys upward. No curtain and no side impact airbag for rear passengers.

  • All cars should do this well in a serious crash, I wish I could afford to buy one. The BIG 3 in the usa need to take notes on SAAB'S crash and safety engineering.

  • Horrific, I suppose if I had to be in that crash I would rather have my Saab

  • thats actually very good. saabs are safe cars

  • great now I am going to go crash mine at 110 thanks you tube =)

  • Thank god they tested this crashes with saab cars

  • what yr are these saabs? cuz im lookin at buyin a 1999 9-3 but i cant find any 1999 saab 9-3 crash tests

  • those are saab 9-5s and are in the same model era as the 99 you are looking at (between 99' and 02'). personally, I own a 2000 9-3 convertible and highly recommend it -- mine is alot of fun to drive.

  • thanks

  • In terms of saftey, the first gen 93 got euro ncap 4 stars which is exeptionally good. The convertible, i believe, was the highest scoring convertible in ncap history so u r in good hands if u get one.

  • Its not anymore, the new BMW 3-Series and latest Volvo C70 have beaten it.

  • also it was 4/5, not 4/4 as NCAP changed their scoring system in 1998, so the 93 was tested under the new system, so its not really THAT good.

  • well i did not know that. However it does highlight a problem: you can't compare a modern 4 star and an older 4 star car since the scoring system is different.

  • The 93 and 95 are totally different cars. The 93 was originally the 900, manufactured from 1993 and based on the 1988 Opel Vectra/Vauxhall Cavalier. There might be a 900 crash test on here...I'm pretty sure it only got 2 stars (out of 4) due to its old design relatively weak structure (the improved 93, maufactured from 1998 improved on this, but not sure by how much) The 95 is based on the much newer 1995 Opel Vectra and had 4 stars (out of five) when first tested in 1997 I think.

  • I have a 99 saab 93, its the hatch back

  • 75 mph

    This can't be.. I think it's 35...

  • Closing speed is 75 mph - each vehicle is averaging 32.5 mph.

  • Stupid me - 37.5 mph.

  • And THAT is why I drive a Saab.

  • same here.

  • ditto.

  • in reply to the post "THAT is why i drive a SAAB"

  • The best cars EVER <333

  • Saab rock

  • tht sound was sexay.

  • amazing! thats real Swedish quality!

  • Precioso.

  • Great! One more for the Suedes!

  • you´ll not stay alive!!

  • their is a pretty decent chance that you would actually, saab are extreamly safe cars, thats all that my family has

  • Saab is a safe car, 120 km/h and just that happens, you'll stay alive.

  • No. Both cars are going 60 km/h

120 is the closing speed of both cars

  • be not shure. The G-forces your body exposes for is truley heavy..

  • wtf

  • it is slowmotion i think
