In England during this time there was a big Ska/two tone scene happening, but thankfully there was bands like Def Leppard keeping it real with proper music.
Wow! Joe had one serious 'fro working here. And the the shoulders on that jacket! That whole look was so awesomely bad. Sav is wearing the puffy shirt. Thank you for posting!!
I want to know what solos Pete Willis did on those first two albums, if anybody can get me a list I'd appreciate it. He was and is a very underrated guitar player and it confounds me that he wont play or record anything. What is the real story behind
him not wanting to? It seems to me that Joe Elliot is jealous or doesnt like him for some reason. Sorry but Phil will always be in Pete's and Steve's Shadows
Wish I had that scaley vest thing. How cool would that be? Just to have around, you know? Or is it sewn onto his jacket? Either way it'd be cool to have it.
This version of rock briigade is pre the album version. Wasted is the Nick Tauber version. Does anyone know if they did more songs with Nick? Maybe the 30th anniversary deluxe edition of OTTN will have all these tracks. and the videos!!
@TurboThrash what happened was they got older, and they lost some edge...Joe said years ago after they broke open in the US that they were about making hit records...thats why they went all middle of the road....i wish every album had the energy of On thru the night and first few albums, but few bands hold to that initial raw edge...even Metallica I feel lost some of the rawness of Kill 'em all and ride the lightning on the newer stuff...
they had to change their sound because this was too heavy for the radio and after they kicked pete out. they decided to write radio friendly pop songs. great for the bank account but hard on the ears.sell outs just as reo speedwagon were. they used to be a rock band too. long ago
They always seem to be perfectly suited for the moment. Then it was the perfect line up with Pete for what they needed and later Phil joined at the perfect moment and now Viv. Kind of amazing if you think about it. Whatever guides them is so much bigger than the band and seems to time things just right. It's almost mystical.
This is great, raw def leppard, It's a shame they change there sound though. On through the night is a great album with amazing riffs and solo's, It just shows you how good they are!
@TheRisingforce2000 The 70's. I guess when your in your teens and on the verge of becoming huge rock stars you can be talked in to wearing anything. I would say 99% of the time Def Leppard wore regular street clothes.
HISS!! BOO!!! You have obviously NEVER seen anything by Def Leppard from this stage other than the Wasted clip from this show... and if you'd seen this before, other than on youtube, you'd know a lot more about Def leppard.
Archive625,.....Dude once again, you split my sides.
There's that slow song, side B, last song, (can't get the name), also "Hello America"
had "some" air time on high school radio, (back when HS radio focus a little more on local bands trying to hit a break then trying to "out-cool", shock to get attention.
SF Bay Area, (east bay, concord, CA) KVHS back in the late '70's-early 80's,
"raise 'em up, I wanna see who salutes here",......... (I'm wanna get a little bit out of time here),....
I was a sophomore when "On through the Night" came out and I've been hooked ever since. Saw the High-n-Dry tour in '81 when Pete was still around. People were throwing doobies on stage, I was front row, my ears rang for a month!
Wow! This is bitchin'! Didn't think I'd find this rarity & in such great quality! Thanks for sharing ;)

@1FineYoungCannibal Because we all know the Specials and Madness are deplorable bands who made terrible music, am I right?
To me, Def Leppard didn't become proper until "High 'n Dry."

It's a Gibson melody maker double cut away, similar to the one Joan Jett plays.

@TwainHarteFam Yes. Jett's is different but this guitar is definitely the double cutaway melody maker.
