  • Great songs shld never die........

  • Most British covers of US originals are inferior. This is an exception and in my opinion is better than Ray Peterson's.

  • @MJC1124 This version has much more emotion.

  • My ex bf sang part of this song to me and instead of sayin "laura" he would say my name. A little corny but with his Texan accent it was amazingly sweet :)

  • A little sad but a great song.

  • This cover is far superior to the Ray Petersen original IMHO of course.

  • My claim to fame, he was in the RAF with my dad, nice guy

  • i inherited a 45 record from my nan with this on.

  • My names Laura :D

  • This song is depressing to people who haven't heard it before. But to me it has much importance, happy memories, of my parents, not one bit depressing at all to me x

  • if one more person sings this song to me i'll scream, its a good song but has plagued me all my life, lol xx

  • best thing to do is get a glass of wine, ignore the haters comments, and enjoy this fine piece of music

  • My girl is called Laura, and this song means so much to me.

  • Got to agree silly old bastard still living of this song and touting his so called talent around the Costa Blanca..sad man!!

  • I played guitar in the group that backed Ricky Valance at a hotel Christmas gig many years ago in Mablethorpe. I found him arrogant and full of his own self-importance, not someone I would want to back-up on another gig.

I know this won't go down well with his fans but you can only speak as you find.

  • @Rubbadabbadingdong

I know, I shared that stage and arrogance with you all those years ago (Grange & Links) - mind you, not bad, basing a whole career on a song recorded 51 years ago (lyrics by the Bee Gees?).

  • and told her mother tommy said : pom pom pom pom !

  • this video is gay as shit

  • @ShaolinPete fuck you faggot go listen to your rap rock n roll metal bullshit punk

  • @jizmacdacusha haha you can't even decide what I listen to you prick

  • @ShaolinPete all your mdern shit you call music is all sickening to my ears equally

  • @jizmacdacusha wow what an idiot

  • @ShaolinPete your the idiot little punk bastard

  • @jizmacdacusha haha why's that? you attempted to refute all modern music regardless of genre, simply by saying that it's sickening to your ears; I think you were referring to rap/rock'n'roll/metal (because that's what you said I should go and listen to). And I never said this music was bad, I said the video was gay, which it well is. You're the fucking idiot you idiot.

  • @ShaolinPete go back suck your moms tit little kid you come on here just to look at random videos just to say bad things about it, if you dont like the video then choose another one you dont nhave to go and comment shit that your posting so truly you are the idiot

  • @jizmacdacusha no u

  • My mother and I used to this song all the time all the time. Now that I think about it, it seemed a tad out of place for a child singing this song with exuberance as I have!

  • tell laura i love her

    tell laura i need her

    tell laura not to cry

my love for her will never die

i listen to it in the car all the time!

  • my friend laura died at 28 cancer left 2great kidsilove this so much

  • To Tina ..... Miss you. xoxo

  • BEA-UTIFUL!!! Sang with class in a classless world... We once spoke with eloquence and purpose. Our language, expression, and culture is now diluted with lazy english... BLAH!!!!

  • this song makes me cry =,( especially the part "as they pulled him from the twisted wreck with dying breath they heard him say tell laura i love her" it always gets 2 me...

  • billy connollys version is the best

  • My dad played this song for me lol :-) Its my name!!! I love my dad!

  • 讚!!

  • I honestly prefer this version more than the Ray Peterson version. Sounds more romantic. The Ray Peterson version is definitely more emotional and tragic sounding but I really like his voice in this. Maybe it's because I heard this version first.

  • Sucks if ur name's Tommy "/

  • Is this song based on a true story???

  • @worldchampion1986

No. Pure fiction from songwriters Jeff Barry & Ben Raleigh. Back in 1960 'Death Discs' were very popular. But the BBC hierarchy at the time considered that songs dwelling mawkishly upon teenage premature death were simply 'Too tasteless and vulgar for the British sensibility' and the record was indeed banned! It became something of an anthem at UK stock car race meetings and Ricky Valance even took up stock car racing himself for a while!

  • @marlrd80 Cool! you know how to party or what..."two thumbs up"...

  • My name is Laura :) I was named after my moms sis who died at a young age :(she was only 21 ,she was very sick and it was 2 late ,the guy she loved got married many years later to a woman who looked a lot like her(laura) but he was never happy after her death .She was a very loving person ,few years after he got married he died ,he was sick too .May their soul R.I.P .:)

  • What a classic. Only crap exists now in the charts.

    Steve

  • I'm crying as I listen. Why don't they make music like this anymore....????

  • His version is definitely better than that of Ray Peterson's. Both were hits in 1960 although this video clip is from the 1970s going by the style of his dressing

  • I agree. Peterson`s version is not as good as this. Peterson has a much more dramatic touch to his version, almost like he`s singing opera, and it doesn`t fit. This version is sung the way it should be sung, and that`s why it was a no.1 hit in 1960!

  • John Leyton's version was the best of all three. This version on Top Rank 7 inch vinyl is worth about a hundred pounds now as it's very rare.

  • Really? I haven't heard John Leyton's version of the song. If you have it, would be good if you could download. I like John Leyton's other songs like "Johnny Remember Me" and "Lonely City"

  • Apparently, the John Leyton version came out just before the Ricky Valance version. EMI bought out Top Rank around this time and as they already had the Ricky Valance version they dropped the John Leyton one. This is why the record is scarce. I think it was JAR-426. I will try to find it.

  • this version is worth a hundred pounds do you mean?

We used to have the single...

    wish we still had it
