When I was a officer-cadett we approached a bridge in Sweden. The pilot whanted us to proceed against a closed bridge. Well past the point of no return. He said the bridgecontroll would open when we come closer and that they did like this to minimze the time the bridge had to be open. For the sake of the road traffic.
Our captain refused and stopped the ship, If we had proceeded and the bridge for some reson did not open, we would have copyed this accident.
Yes a good question you retard, why the bridge operater was not looking where (when 'd fit better) he was going downward... Going down (which need 30s) while a ship passes (a long one needing 90s) is no good idea. Oh, such a ship does not really have breaks...
