  • WOW!

  • sweet sound. good nice.

  • I think your japanese is very, very good! This has recently become one of my favorite songs, ofc I had heard it lots of times before but never stopped to listen you know.. I think you sing it very well and your charm really shines thru!

From your name I gather you are part swedish?

  • I lived in Hiyama beach in 1962. The Japanese people were so wonderful to my sister and I. It seems like Japan made a great impression on you as well. I wish I would have been there long enough to learn the language as well as you did. Great job on a beautiful song.

  • I don't know how you've done it but you've made a "sad" song sound so happy. It is a beautiful song and you do it well.

  • @patron40silver

Thank you! The lyrics are about how he is trying very hard not to be sad...even though he's broken-hearted. It seems he's encouraging himself to move past his pain, so I've always felt there is a great deal of courage and optimism to the song. Maybe that's why my version sounds happy. Well, that, plus maybe that I just love the song so much it makes me happy? Anyway, thank you again! :-)

  • great job!!! :)

  • you have a flawless Japanese accent! also a lovely singing voice.

  • Very Very nice you did a wonderful job singing ,,the smile on your face is in your eyes,,just awesome,,thank you for sharing on a whim.

  • Honestly, I'm really touched to know that there are someone in the States who really sings this song the way it should be remembered.

You really did the great job!!!

  • Hi!

Good goin, girl. You were not afraid to be real. This really worked because you really like the friends you were singing it for...that came through like gangbusters. I tell new singers to look out in their audience and believe that those people are all pulling for you, and that they are each potential friends... then, sing your songs to them with that in mind. You will make each person feel very welcome. Then they, in return, will give that back to you. Thanks for posting your song,

  • My dear ann, some months ago I added a comment in which I said how much I enjoyed your cover of this song. Now would be able to do a cover of "what a fool believes" in japanese and imitate Michael mac Donald singing?...

  • I 've seen other comments about you and your clip.I'm kind of under the charm of your freshness(your face ,your heart too ,I suppose...)I guess those who never sing age faster...I've sang since 1957, my birthdate.

  • So sweet. Thank you so much!

I learned Japanese as a child when I lived there, so it didn't take me too long to learn it. The words are lovely and while sad, they are also heart-breakingly positive. It is a special, special song...

  • Bravo Mylady!Nice performance.I try to learn it by heart but so far,i haven't been any further than Ue O Muite...How long it took to get it?

  • Pitch right! Wow!

  • beautiful!

  • 1962? Surely that was a slip of the tongue and you meant 2002? The "soul" is spot on!

When I lived in Japan in high school, my friends called me Anko-chan. ;-) That's because I loved anko, and also because my name was "an" in Japanese...I wanted a "ko" at the end like my friends Mariko and Yoshiko!

  • Very well done!!!!

  • Some songs stay with us all our lives, this one, Strangers on the Shore, Lion Sleeps Tonight, Moon River, some are just classics!

    Nice job!

  • next time show a lil cleavage and u sing well darling take care and waiting for ur next video lol

  • doudo→doumo

  • iie, iie....

    ;-)

  • doudo doudo (・∀・)♪

  • The singer in my opinion does not look old enough to have been in Japan in 1962. The song was also on radio lost in America at that time. It was considered a "modern" or pop Japanese song of the post World War II era. It is song of hope for a brighter future which was popular here too.

  • Thank you for the compliment. I really, really, really was born in 1956 in Hanno-shi, Saitama-ken.

It must be something about the light from the monitor. I have wrinkles in real life!! :-)

  • Don't let Ann tease you she's very sweet & funny as can be & I saw no wrinkles (I was there for a few days in class with her so I know!). Ann, my hubby was born in '56- I can't believe you & he are the same age! Never! The wrinkle fairy missed your house! ;)

  • i dont believe you were born before 62,,you look 30,bloody good job on the song to,great stuff,,

  • that was awesome, you really have a feel for that song, brought a tear to my eye ^-^

  • You're sweet. My 1962 memory: I'm visiting our tetsudai-san (maid) who lives down the road from us. She's busy making dinner for her family. It's a typical Japanese home - hard-packed dirt floor in the kitchen. I'm at the table coloring when on a tinny transistor radio perched high on top of a tansu, I hear the whistling from the original Sukiyaki Song and am instantly captivated...It was constantly playing on the radio those days. I had lots of opportunity to fall in love with the song...

  • Omg I love the way you did the song. This has always been one of my favorite songs. Thank you for doing the song. And you sing wonderful

  • Very very nice. You can tell you love the song. Amazing that 40 years later people are still loving it and posting thier own covers of it.

  • Pretty!

  • Hey there, I was looking thru my vids trying to clean up and linked back to Ningyo-ko and found this response - I loved it, I really really really love this song almost as much as I love Shima-uta! nice one!
