@billstar01 I agree as a fellow 1961 born oldster I detested the Dooleys in the 70s but I though the passage of time would mellow my view of them.I have to say that listening to the Dooleys warbling "The Chosen few" after 30 odd years on Youtube,I still think they are awlful. I do agree the 70s were a happier time. The thing is were they happier because we had no kids debts, job or responsibilities? My claim to fame......I was one of the first people into straight trousers in 1980!I hated Flairs
@lndac02 lol thanks for that sorry about the late reply but been in blackpool on a course and nooooooo nolans what happennend i dont know but straight pants i was in bags you know cords with 2 pockets on the side of your knees lol
Groups were not allowed to play live on TOTP. I remember in the early days some did, but of course somebody had to go and be all radical and swear on live TV .... ooooh how subversive was that....... and the rule was imposed by the Beeb.
@p165711 that remained so thru the 80's too miming was so bad it was shameful, then one thursday night i remember ...mick hucknall chose to sing -holding back the years live ..just him and a piano....wow showed us true artist
i have alwayz luvd this song i dint know the artists, thanx to you tube i just typed 'chosen few' and here i am, enjoying my all tyme, we are the really chosen generation to enjoy technology
OMG thanks for posting this, remember this coming out in the charts, brilliant song then and still an upbeat tune. This had me humming this all day. Does anyone know are they all still in Manchester, I know a couple went to South Africa - any chance of getting them to reform, maybe we should start a campaign.
OMG THX FOR THIS I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR MONTHS! IT WAS ONE OF MY MOM'S FAVS AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOCATE IT - I REMEMBER IT FROM MY CHILD HOOD!!! THANKS
think her name is kathy (red +blue) used to watch top of the pops for her debbie harry and mo from the nolans all sexy to a 15 yr old ha ha thanks for the post.
I wore my country's uniform a long time ago and I don't approve of it being worn out-of-context by those who haven't earned it. At the same time I realize Monty Python was still going strong in those days and the Brits have a slightly different attitude. That aside, I was a kid in the day and I'd like to know when did the Dooleys put their guys in the background?
We must be the same age, I never actually saw them back in the day cause we were stationed in Germany and I never caught them on MusikLaden. Looking at the videos, I gather that the male members of the band were either booted earlier on or relegated to the orchestra pit?
God i remember this one aswell! when ur about 5/6 years old in the 70s, this was a good song...playing it for the first time in about 30 odd years i can't believe my parents actually bought this. look at the state of the one in the green LMAO @ this video and song lol.
This is the only song of theirs I remember, but at least it's a good one. Oddly enough, I heard it playing as muzak in a discount shoe shop the other day!
What a shame that groups like this are not around anymore. They were very talented and were great live. Today it is all about appearances. How many of today's artists will be rembered in twenty years or so?
Great pop! The Dooleys nade me feel good back then,,,and still do now..they look a bit like a Eurovision band here though...did they enter this in our Song For Europe I wonder?? A bit like Co-co and Bucks Fizz here!!
I can remember going to see the dooleys performing at scarborough in about 1979/1980. I was only 10 at the time but i remember that they were absolutely fantastic.
This gets even better as time goes by, Iove the music and vocals. And the lady in red/blue is a major contributor to my love of curvy redheads of the female grouping :)
The brothers run a company raising funds to buy disabled motorised scooters. Anne, Bob and Helen moved to South Africa where they still perform under the name Shiraz, Bob and his brother run a flower export company. Kathy is married to actor Andrew Mackintosh (DS Greig - The Bill).
Wow, Anne Dooley was one hottie wasn't she. After rediscovering this song on here last month, I've picked up their Greatest Hits CD and it's on repeat play. Brilliant!
This is so strange reading all the comments. I was born in 1970 also and remember all their songs, but never knew who sang them...! These are just genuine real good singers. They will always be proud to look back at their performances. Not like alot of todays wanna be idiots who cant sing, and do anything for attention. Well done Dooleys. Fantastic memories....... great to hear again. The very time time for music this. Hope things will turn full circle again and return to this.
Reminds me of my childhood - I was 9 when this was released!!
I am forevet telling my daughter to enjoy her childhood while she can.
She is 14 now, but I've always said to her.....
The trouble is that when we are children, all we want to do is grow up and become adults, but............ when we've become adults, we just wish we were children again.
For us of a certain generation, youtube helps us recapture our childhood!!
Yeah, I was around the same age when it was released. God, this song was everywhere! It's wonderful to hear it again after all these years, plus "Wanted", of course.
same as me i was born in 1970,started watching totps around 78 ish great days, swap shop, tiswas, crossroads, famous five, corrie, maggie thatcher, kevin keegan, soda streams, chunky videos, atari, walkmans, lee cooper jeans i could go on great days

Wicked Tune... i remember this from '80 or'81. My parents and their best friends played this to death one Xmas at their respective parties.. was a floor filler!!
If memory serves, Jimmy Savile was also the host when they made their TOTP debut in 1977 when Jim Dooley was lead vocalist. The drummer and bass player weren't family members, although I think the bassist married one of the sisters. They were roundly despised by the popular music press but they did make some good records and a few went top 10.
I've got news for BOTH of you. They were from Ilford (Essex) and moved to Worsley (Salford) in 1973 while they had a house built beside the A666 (easy access to the motorways between the M62 and M61)).
I have this track on my mp3.. it's a really good track. There is a kinda calypso sound that was fairly common at the time, with tracks like "it's your Life" by Smokie, and of course "Co Co" by the sweet.
Can't believe this video has only had a few views and one comment(two now). The Dooleys rock. The chosen few is a great song. Bring back the Dooleys, the world needs the Dooleys.
Nowadays, this sisn't the kind of stuff I would listen to, but Nosatalgia is a different kettle of fish.
The amount of views would be personally boosted by me, I must have watched this video 20+ times.
The Dooleys are a great pathway back to my childhood and I fully enjoy watching the videos on You Tube.... thankd=s to the people who take time to upload them.
