curry was a very good fighter, even knocking Benitez down three times when they first fight. for Tommy to blast through him like that showed that he was something special

I think Hearns lost to Leonard because he didn't blitz him like he did everybody else at the time and that gave Leonard time to think which was never good to do..He tore right through Duran who is just as good of an inside boxer as Leonard

Hearns was awsome. Terrible quick left followed by a right combination. If you slipped that then you could meet the uppercut. I guess you had to go in on him like leonard did and take the punishment.

yeah..it was a catch 22 with his attack; you defnitely had to be willing to take punishment and possibly a knockout!1 The fighters with the best success against the Hearns viscious attack were like you said, able to get in on him...he was a great long distance fighter, and you had to get in on him to beat him!!

i know the right hand of Hearns was a monster...but he had unbelievable power in both hands!!

He had the boxing world shook from 79-86...and did not get a return match with Marvelous, and had to wait damn near 8 years to get a return match with Leonard!!

and for good reason...HE BEAT PEOPLE UP BAD!!!!! Stewart had Hearns in awesome shape and skill set at all times...

@T74G - True. And Leonard only gave Hearns a rematch because Hearns had been KO'd by Iran Barkley and badly hurt against James "The Heat" Kinchen in his 2 fights prior to the Leonard rematch. During the prefight hype, Leonard kept saying that Hearns was "shot." Leonard tried to fight guys at the right time (like his fight against Hagler), but was wrong in his estimation that Hearns was washed up.

@T74G - Yeah, most people felt that Hearns won the rematch. For a long time, Leonard had a hard time admitting that. However, I heard that years later, Leonard admitted that he really had lost the rematch.

Curry was a good fighter. Hearns an all time great but sadly is well on his way to pugilistica dementiaville.Sad but true. He went on for too long like many others. An awesome fighter though.

yeah, bruce curry was robbed against benitez. he then kayoed the number one contender at that time, Monroe brooks in a back-alley brawl at the olympic auditorium in los angeles. what a fight that was

I think we will never see anyone like hearns again. yeah, every tall & lean guy is compared to Hearns. Forget about....Tommy is quite possibly the most unique blend of size, speed, power, & ability you'll see. No, not the best ever, but the most unique.

Bruce Curry was a very good boxer. I remember he knocked then Junior Welterweight champion Wilfred Benitez down three times in a bout that was judged a draw in 1977 or 1978.
