you do hit hommers using the contact swing the flaw is the power swing fouls off like everything use a defensive swing on 0-2 because pitchers try to get u to chase however sometimes they through a FB inside so u wait for a ball or 2 so count is 2 and 2 then chose contact or power and u are more likely to get a strike zobe pitch to put in play thats what i do anyways try it out see if it works for u
This video is living proof that MLB 2K tried to damn hard to make their game different from The Show.
Who in the hell needs or has time for 3 swing options? How about having good player A.I. A player that will adjust his swing in different count based on his abilities.
MLB 2K needs to focus more on getting rid of those generic arcade looking players and drastically reducing the plethora of glitches their game has every year.
This game belonds in a laundromat next to Pacman. Peace.
The rason they did that is for situational hitting. Say, like you said, Ryan Howard is up and the bases are loaded with two outs in the 9th. You don't want to pop out, you want a contact swing into the gap. Thats why they did it that way.
Also power swing makes the game way to easy. I play my player mode and all I do is power swing and hit a lot of home runs. It is kinda off ridiculous to go 4-4 with 4 home runs.(I have done that 4 times now.)
Access 2K Nav in the pause menu, go to Options -> Controller Options -> Controller Layout... or something like that. I'm not looking at the game as we speak, so I have no idea if those are the right options.
Anyway, you'll see a screen with a huge-ass controller and on the bottom of the screen is an L2/R2 option to change Batting/Pitching/Fielding/Baserunning control schemes, and L1/R1 is to switch controls from Stick to Classic.
I think I read to hit for contact you just press up. The only thing is I'm used to holding the right stick down then pushing up, but I guess thats for power now.
You press it forward for contact swing plus like if you have one swing honestly in 2k9 its like a damn homerun derby i hit like a homerun everygame with placido polanco its rediculous and your chop swing and other stuff is bs the only good thing you said is the part about the defensive swing included with the pre load
Yeah, I figured out the forward thing about a day later.
Perhaps they would fix the hitting so that every hit wasn't a home run, that's my point about not liking the idea of the power swing.
I don't see how the chop swing thing is BS. I have a chart explaining what I mean... that influencing a ground ball doesn't mean hitting a ground ball, as it has to to with where the ball makes contact with the bat. If you hit the bottom half of the ball, you would hit a backspin floater of some sort, etc.
It looks like a great step in the right direction when compared to 2K9. One thing to consider is that 2K9's ugly head poked out most often when seeing bat and ball physics take place, and most of that has been addressed with the way their hitting model is working out (which is milestones better than my initial impressions as seen in this video). The other issue was in the graphical head's up display, but seeing the new gameplay video, most of my concerns have been addressed.
If you want to put it that way, it's the latter. Basically, I was going off about how it doesn't logically make sense within the realm of how baseball works. Having the control scheme this way isn't "natural" with the flow of a real swing, and it could be improved on.
well i think that it really is strictly situational, you come up top of the first none on, no outs, your going for contact. but if you have your cleanup hitter at the plate with bases loaded, none or one out, and there isnt a drastic change in the score you are going for a power swing.
there actually is a check swing, if you start your swing with the stick and then pull it back before the pitch reaches the plate it does one, the thing is, it doesn't work all the time
i definately agree with the defensive swing but not the power swing
yes it most of the time how you hit will depend on whos hitting, but its really situational. 2 outs, guy on 3rd, tie game in the 9th inning, will you really swing for power?
This has nothing to do with which game I'm buying this year, this has to do with which games I want to buy in the future. Someday 2K could rival The Show in terms of which game I could feel I would like playing more, but the dealbreaker could come with the swing stick not replicating a good game of baseball.
I think in the twelve minutes of this two-part video I at least had time to describe why this stuff doesn't make sense. It has absolutely nothing to do with "judging" first, this is nothing new. 2K7 had a defensive mechanic... many video games have power and contact swings... this game has had influential left-stick swinging since 2K6. Again, this is nothing new.
Not only that, but logically the stick is flawed. I'm providing something that much better represents how a baseball player swings.
I'm not affiliated with OS. I posted this on OS for the very purpose of telling THEM who I was on the message board, so they didn't think I was just posting a video of some random person.
In other words, this isn't for non-OS users to know who I am. To you guys, I am Brandon Robinson from San Diego. To the message board, I am Blzer from Operation Sports.
And I tried to make as much sense as possible, it's just that I went into this video unprepared and unrehearsed. Sorry about that.
@MuffinMcFluffin I apologize. I understand where you are coming from, I just feel 2K should bag the whole analog is more sim concept. MVP 05 was just perfect the way it was designed
Nice. I only get hats that I can match my clothes with haha. Granted, I won't go the unauthentic route and buy one of those off-colored hats... they have to be the original colors.
@Gouglass Thanks, I found that out minutes after I uploaded the video. It still doesn't help the cause too much, because you can't do a defensive swing from a load now.
This is MuffinMcFluffin by the way, I'm just on my friend's computer (stupid Macs, I can't even type on this thing).
" have three swing types you can make: contact (by pushing the stick forward), power (by pulling the stick back and pushing forward) and defensive, protect-the-plate swing (by pushing left or right) "
sounds pretty good to me?? The gameplay will probably be a dissapointment based on 2k8/2k9, but i think the idea of a defensive swing by pushing left and right (instead of the flick you were talking about) is pretty good.
also, i think that you CAN do a defensive swing from a load. say you are loading up for a homerun because you're expecting a fastball, but all of a sudden its a curveball on the outside of the plate. i believe you can still do the defensive by simply going from the load to pushing the stick to the right - it should produce a defensive swing.
No idea, mate. I only played the demo of last year's game and gave pretty quickly, it kind of sucked. But to hear there isn't one this year is just insane.
I have a problem with how you explained it. You said that a contact swing was pulling back on the stick. The way I read it, the contact swing was flicking the stick forward, and never stepping back at all.
You should be able to checkswing with the tap of a button. And foul off pitches by double tapping the button. They should remove the damn swing stick, it sucks.
you do hit hommers using the contact swing the flaw is the power swing fouls off like everything use a defensive swing on 0-2 because pitchers try to get u to chase however sometimes they through a FB inside so u wait for a ball or 2 so count is 2 and 2 then chose contact or power and u are more likely to get a strike zobe pitch to put in play thats what i do anyways try it out see if it works for u
