Miracle car? I don't think so. IF GM actually does produce this car, and I have my doubts, it will be totally useless in the initial offering. That will be intentional as GM doesn't seem to really want to produce EVs. Even if they do actually produce this car, I will never buy one. GM has been a part of the criminal manipulation of the oil and auto industries for decades. I am going to enjoy watching the company die. They deserve it.
Does anyone else think that its odd the they have a battery from a GM EV1 & a new battery from the Volt that they say is the same voltage & its smaller yet the GM EV1 could go 60 to 100 miles on a pure electric charge & now they clam that it impossible when they did better then that over ten years ago just visit my channel
The 18.7 kw/hr lead acid batteries in the EV1 would be lucky to last 500 full cycles. The Volt batteries HAVE to by law last 10 yrs 150,000 miles which requires over 3000 cycles. To make the Batts last this long the bottom 20% and top 30% of battery capacity will not be used so they are in fact only using 8kw/hr of the 16kw/hr in the Volt. 8kw/hr / 200wh/mi = 40 miles.
The EV1 also had a Cd of 0.19 while the 4 door Volt has a Cd of 0.28.
My condo is 200 feet from my parking space, plus I live on the second floor. I could just see me stringing the extension from my back window down to the ground and then carrying the end all the way down to my car to plug it in. The cord would be on the ground in front of my neighbor's back doors. What if one walks out the back door and trips on the cord and falls?
Some of you people!!!! Always looking for the negatives! What do you expect GM or anyone else to do about it? Just don't buy the car is the easiest answer!
Is there some law preventing you from having a power outlet installed at the parking bay? Sounds like a mountian being made out of a mile hill to me.
Well, turns out the Volt will NOT have wheel motors at all. Early publicity included wheel motors on the rear wheels, but they have not turned up on later PR... pity!
Hell... it's a start, but independents like Tesla, Phoenix Motorcars, Zap, Myers Motors, etc. are the companies leading the way in electric vehicle technology.
Zap are an outright joke to the EV industry, Phoenix haven't sold a single car and perhaps never will and Tesla basically sell you a very conventional EV converted Lotus at over 3 times the cost of not only the base car but also the full price of the Volt. Tesla might be flat out selling 1000 cars a year, GM plan to start by selling 100,000. It's GM that is leading, not Tesla and it's a huge plus for ALL EVs.
The Gm EV1 was a plus for all Ev's and a huge head start for Gm. But some how GM thought it was a good idea to destroy them and now all of a sudden there's a huge demand for electric cars and now there starting at the bottom when they could have been ahead its a 4 steps forward three steps back type of scenario.
The independents are leading the way but soon GM and other manufacturers will blow past the little guys in this technology. GM is pouring billions of dollars in R&D in the Volt and other clean vehicles.
Goes 40 miles? Chevy should be ashamed of themselves.
No wonder why the US car makers are going down the pipe. These are a bunch of oldhags suffering from Autmobile version of Alzheimers. We may not see Chevy brand by end of next year.
For a $30,000 retail price this car will have the FIRST EVER 16kw/h EV specific Li-Ion battery pack with a 10 years /100,000 mile warranty, I can't see how that's a bad thing!
They're the 1st major to have the guts to put 1) a large Li-ion battery is a car. 2) a series hybrid 3) wheel motors.
Once these EV sized Li-ion batteries are in full production the price will reduce and any EV converter will be able to by it over-the-counter from GM. It's only good news!

the government won't let GM die out... its stupid because if they can't stay open on their own they don't deserve to stay around...

You may have a right to your own opinion, but an opinion based on ignorance is irrelevant.
