  • Live on cliff r.i.p

  • 5:03 'Ya hear that? that's a bass'

  • LULU says it all

  • Hanger 18 had nothing to do with Metallica, Nick Menza wrote the song too. Not Dave Mustaine.

  • @MrZachgonz nick wrote the lyrics the only thing it has to do with metallica is same same chord progression as this song

  • @Iannnx13 yeah, we all know that just amegadeth fan could say such stupid things!!!!!!

  • Dave DID NOT WRITE THE ENTIRE SONG. for fucks sake.

  • The songwriting credits are for Hetfield, Ulrich, Mustaine, and Burton.

  • when i play this song on my bass guitar.. i feel so much power

  • Love that bass wah!!!!!!! RIP CLIFF!!!!

  • RIP Cliff...

  • @lannnx13 Haha ya man, I think your keyboard is stuck on caps lock. Mustaine didn't write any he had some riffs and ''ideas'' Then stole a riff from this song in his usual fashion and put it as the intro for ''Hanger 18'' so STFU

  • @VeLvEtGuNs he wrote half they dont give him credit cus they are money grubbing dick heads

  • @lannnx13 WAH WAH WAH!!! Shut the fuck up! And thats coming from a Megadeth fan.

  • @lannnx13 FUUCK Dave Mustaine!!!!!!!

  • Waaaah!!

  • some parts (including the intro of the solo) are diferent. i'm guessing this is not the final version? but i cant complain, its a goddamn song! love it

    RIP Cliff!

  • why does kirk look like monica lawinsky in the first pic? lmao

  • Cliff's not dead he's fucking rocking it with Ktulu the dark priest in the ancient lost city!

  • @1981busch re-type that one more fucking time with different punctuation and so help me cliff i will hunt you down and stick my foot so far up your ass that when you'll be tying my shoelaces with your tongue

  • @shredfella Retype that again so we can actually see what your writing.

  • Cliff's not gone hes rockin it wit the dark priest ktulu, in the lost city.

  • Cliff's not gone hes fuckin rockin it wit the dark priest ktulu, in the lost city.

  • I just love this song it pure epic!

  • this song orginially came out in 1984 not 1983

  • @OrionTheCallOfKtulu but written and played live before lightning was released in '83

  • 1983 wow i was late for this magical era

  • Actually riffs are from Mustaine...

  • I think thats definitely them. Also I don't see why Mustaine would wait until 1990 to record his version of this riff if he had really written it way back when they were together. I think it was a coincidence. I mean he certainly had no part in writing this song even if they did rip off something they had jammed out with him.

  • @malcolmX213 Nah, it's just Dave's style of songmaking. He has tons and tons of riffs in store to use. Example. You can hear Marty Friedman play Never Walk Alone main riff in a video in 1994. Dave used that riff in 2007. It's just Dave's way.

  • I guess that does make sense. Of course, I always knew he was bursting full of riffs.

  • Rust in peace Cliff!.

  • Rest in peace man!

  • this is real rite here its authentic

  • Hi Cliff.. Rest in peace man!

  • dave compose that song right, in fact, he played lived once, right? i need to know the cronology....i mean, why they never includes dave on their history, on their photos.... etc

  • @speraza53 copyright stuff and the fact that some band members disliked him up until recently

  • Best bass eva R.I.P

  • This is for sure not a fake, only cliff could perform it this well. The energy of this performance is amazing even though it's just audio, the same can be said if you listen to Cliff's bass solo the night he died.

  • @Metallifuch Not saying it is a fake but realistically there are way better bass players in the world than Cliff Burton, yeah he was awesome but we all know theres better. So this could be a cover or it could be them, bu if it were them i think you could tell, it sounds like they're in a bar or small venue, which i think metallica would not be playing at the time.

  • @Jesusfreak101Bemis in 82-83? Shit man, that's all they played back then.

  • @Jesusfreak101Bemis keep in mind, metallica would play small bars and venues even after cliff died dude.

  • everyone involved in the metgadeth vs metallica or pro vs anti mustaine argument needs to take a chill pill. its immature and narrow minded

  • The outro was played too fast. Plus the crowd got annoying pretty fast

  • Cliff is the best bass guitar player ! God dem !

  • Comment removed

  • @UrMotrFucker no!

  • @spiXell who?

  • @UrMotrFucker hes bass

  • @nintendoawsomeman I know, but i listened than this melody was invented by cliff

  • He was not played quitar, he was cryed

  • damn i wish i cudve seen cliff in his day! r.i.p cliff

  • awesome bass on this song espacially by cliff! espacially those fuckin wahs!

  • brutal wah along with one of the most awesome basslines ever

  • this cant be a cover, the bass sounds to good to be anyone but cliff.

  • i got a question...Did metallica write this song?

  • @SK8rforalmost... i think... the last metallica wrote the song... before Hammet with mustaine

  • @spiXell oh because ive been hearing this is a cover..0_o

  • @SK8rforalmost its probably a fake..

mustaine after being kicked frm the band... he used a part from Call of ktulu in a song of Megadeth: Hangar 18..

  • @spiXell uhh no ? your stupid

  • @spiXell

Reason because Mustaine wrote most of kill em' all

  • @canem101 Dave didn't write most of Kill 'em All or most of RTL. Kirk writes in the band about as much as Dave did. But does that mean that he wrote most of Metallica's songs? NO! But it does for Dave, does it? Mustaine co-wrote on 4 songs on Kill 'em All (out of 10; no covers) including The Four Horsemen which is pretty much his own song. He co-wrote on 2 on RTL. Here are facts now stop over crediting Dave Mustaine. I'm not saying he sucks, he is better than Kirk, but you're still wrong.

  • @spiXell ummm no, yes hangar 18 uses the same chords, but the riffs are somewhat different, this is metallica, you can hear cliff burton making his bass roar like NO ONE could ever do it!!!

  • @spiXell in what part???

  • @spiXell no he used the same chord progression

  • @spiXell yea you can when u play it, but not alott

  • @spiXell I thought that riff sounded similar in hangar 18 to the one here...thanks :)

  • @spiXell mustaine wrote the whole Call of Ktulu you faggot

  • @dreadandthefugitive no dipshit dave and cliff wrote it together.

  • @spiXell mustaine worte the whole Call of Ktulu and Hangar 18 was the retribution for what metallica did to mustaine

  • @spiXell Dave wrote the intro riff, which he has been credited for in the record, but metallica wrote rest of the song.

  • @spiXell No this is an original metallica peice. It was recorded on Ride The Lightning but at this point, the song would have been called "When Hell Freezes Over" They changed the title later on

  • @SK8rforalmost Mustaine wrote the beginning clean part, but the distorted it for Hangar 18's intro

  • @SK8rforalmost no...it was summoned by the gods and given to cliff burton on an ancient scroll as a gift

  • man guys cliff is such a badass musician, how did all that shit come to his mind? Long live the heavymetal memory of the legendary bass player, our favorite.... CLIFF BURTON

  • Dave qrote most of the tune, but it was Cliff, the fan of HP Lovecrafts who introduced the concept. Mustaine does rip a pretty nasty solo tho.

  • The song that made me want to play bass.

  • This awesome song is very evidently a Mustaine song but Cliff is definately the one who gave it a kick in the ass. RIP Cliff

  • saying that this is Mustaine song is like spitting in Cliff's face. shame on you :(

  • Mustaine wrote the guitar parts of this song. its the same as hanger 18

  • @ktk311

Lol cause it's the same as Hanger 18 and When means the guitar parts are written by Mustaine.....? That's not a verry good argument.... You could've just told the creditten him on the album then you had a solid argument.

Well anywayz.. it doesn't matter who wrote that guitar part or intro... Cliff MADE this song!!!

  • yeah but Dave Mustaine failed at metal...if he was actually owrth the time of day then it would be megadeth with the world wide cult following not metallica

  • have you ever even listened to megadeth? or heard them live?

  • @malachasmic haha wow you're an idiot. YOUR LISTENING TO METAL. If you want to listen to something everybody does, then go listen to pop you stupid cunt.

  • @KillJoy353 Megadeth is shit and quite frankly I'm surprised your parents allowed you to keep breathing. I love metal ... just not shit metal. Now fuck off and die in a fire you stupid little fuck.

  • @malachasmic your a poser.

  • @KillJoy353 Lol awesome

  • @KillJoy353 Wow if you were my kid I would have drowned you at birth

  • @malachasmic If you were my kid, I woul've had you Butchered at Birth ;)

  • No Words ... 5*

  • How Come they didnt name it When Hell freezes Over? RIP Cliff Burton WE ALL LOVE YOU!

  • may be... the name of this song was changed when dave mustaine had been kicked from the band

  • Cliff loved H.P. Lovecraft's book. "Weird Tales" or something. One of the stories was about a Sea Squid/God that came forth from the ancient city of R'yleth - thus marking a chapter of suffering among humanity...or something like that...either way Cliff liked it

  • @TheZednaught and spiXell

o ok thank you for telling me guys you guys are awesome

  • @ilovemetallica117

    Kirk liked the Cthulhu mythos.

Lol at people going crazy at the start :D

  • damn i wish i could see cliff playing this.

  • @damianbranica Yeah, so we can see what the hell he plays in the call of ktulu

  • @Jinxerz010792 just use [sic] instead.

  • cliff is the best bassist of the story of the Metal and thehistory of music

  • rip cliff burton :(

i think all metallica fans will miss you

  • R.I.P. Cliff

  • el bajo suena increible, se nota que Cliff esta tocando

  • It renders perfectly the novel of Ctulhu

  • Unfortunetly Metal Heads are the most narrow-minded people. When a metal band starts to make any songs that in the least bit is "not metal" they get chastized immediately. The thing I hear the most is "Metallica should stop doing other shit and go back to metal." And the other is "all Metallica is doing is what everyone else wants them to do." Is it just me, or is that pretty fucking contridictory. And these comments usually follow the other coming from the same mouths.

  • @hatedskelter

First of all not all of it was his and he got credit so stfu im sick of ppl saying that! He was in the band when they were starting to making this song most likely and they werent just gunna through away the idea so yeaaaaaaa

  • technicaly since mustaine made the songs while still in the band, the songs belong to them. plus even with out mustaines stuff, they still would of been an amazing band, and still would of been massive

  • but mustaine only wrote some of the riffs not a full song

  • wtf ??? thats the second album he only play in kill em all

  • @kirkMaster3

I am now holding the ride the lightning CD in my hand, mustaine is credited on the song "Ride the Lightning" and Call of Chtulu"

  • He will be 48 :( Cliff u will be the best ever! RIP

  • The best bassist of all time...

    RIP Cliff.

  • happy birthday cliff you live in our hearts

  • @CATARBO

    happy birthday cliff

  • Who plays the intro?

  • @kloratis probably Hetfield

  • @kloratis hetfield does

  • james..

  • deffinitly james

on the S&M dvd, you see him playing it

  • is that kirk in the background at the begining because it looked like a fucking chick

  • yeah its him. he looked like that back than its his style

  • Que triplehijueputa chimba de cancion, Cliff inigualable!!

  • grande cliff........miglior bassista di sempre.........R.I.P.

  • I guess that "when hell freezes over " was original title for "Trapped under ice", not for " the call of Ktulu"..innit so?

  • no, it is really like it is written in the description

  • Megadeth are just a bunch of shit in comparison with Metallica

  • 7 good records dude............

  • @disc3233

I agree, Burton I think was the band, but we will never know.

  • Metallica ended after Producing Black Album! Bob Rock made OUR band suck! That fucking Pussy! St. Anger is such a shit! and Death Magnetic is nice not good! Mainstream Sucks! Know their just playing the old stuff and crapping some shit in stage! They need to go back to Thrash roots and write some sick Thrash! BRING BACK OLD METALLICA! Kirk FTW!

  • Bob Rock produced their best mainstream album, Load/Reload are actually good albums unless you are too stupid to appreciate something that doesn't have distortion or doesn't go at 200 bpm, and with the St.Anger no matter what producer we were not gonna get an album of much value in the mind set they were in, and as for Death Magnetic is a good album, Guitar complexity wise it is the successor to Justice For All, Lets hope next album stays on the right track and is faster and heavier.

  • Pfft. Successor indeed.

    Load/Reload were and are shit.

I can name at most three good songs off of either album. The rest was far too tainted by Bob Rock's influence. Same could be said of the Black Album. I mean really. How can you listen to Hero of the Day and call that a GOOD SONG. It's not one. St. Anger just speaks for itself, and Death Magnetic has Unforgiven III, for which I can't forgive them for.

  • hey, Unforgiven III is an awesome song.

  • Er, no, it's really not. It portrays the original two in no manner but within the lyrics, and quite honestly, the fuck was with the piano?

The song is an over-produced, over-hyped piece of shit about a pirate, and frankly, the only good part about it is Kirk's solo. I expected A LOT MORE from an Unforgiven. I was sorely disappointed.

  • That was a fast fucking comment.

Nah, I personally like it. I think it's a great song. Death Magnetic, in my opinion, is pretty under appreciated. It's a pretty good album. And a lot of people didn't like the idea of the Unforgiven songs being too similar with the chorus and whatnot, so they made it less similar. In my opinion, great song.

  • Yeah, I check my Gmail often... >.> I'm waiting on scholarship stuff...

Anyway, I liked the similarities. It showed a continuation of the series, that the saga was supposed to be continuing with others as the torch passed from hand to hand.

From the old man, to the young boy, to the woman... or it was supposed to be passed to the woman...

What I don't get is where the hell the pirate comes in. That made no sense whatsoever. I don't mind DM, but Unforgiven III just ruins it for me...

  • Well, just be glad that Judas Kiss and Suicide and Redemption are right after... Suicide and Redemption being the best song on the album. ;)

  • @ Malckeor sorry but unforgiven 3 sucks, the only good unforgiven in my opinion is the first one, but thats the only part of death magnetic i dont like the rest is awesome

  • Meh, Unforgiven 2 is pretty good.

  • dont like metallica, dont talk about it to people who think they r the best thing to happen in their life u fucking pile of dog shit. and for ur information unforgiven 3 is a thousnad times better then anything u culd muster up u fucking cunt.

  • Oh, Muffin. I'm sorry, did you get butthurt because Mr. Meanie has an opinion about a song that doesn't agree with yours? FYI, I love Metallica, just not Unforgiven Three, and the Majority of their stuff after And Justice. Sorry, but I don't agree with the vast majority of those songs.

What's more, is I could, can, and probably WILL muster up something better than Unforgiven 3, as soon as I find a decent thrash band to join. I've got two or three songs already written.

  • I love watching wankers like you talk yourself up even though you probably a failure at life. Probably a Kings of Leon fan with no music talent. All metallica bar probably Sta Anger is great, your pathetic, quit life.

  • Firstly, who the fuck are Kings of Leon. Second, you're an asshat if you really consider every song Metallica's ever released Barring St. Anger to be Great, what's more is you're not even certain of the fact. Here, do us all a fucking favour, go to a Tallica show, get yourself a ticket for the middle of the pit, and start shouting at the guys to play Hero of the Day, King Nothing, My Friend of Misery, Escape, Or Mama told Me. Have fun seeing what everyone else thinks of those "awesome" songs.

  • @Jinxerz010792 No one gives an honest fuck, sorry sugar.

  • Eh, go suck a fat one. Could care less what other people think, just sick of when they can't handle someone else's opinion.

"WAAAH, YOU MADE FUN OF MY FAVRITEST* SONG, YOU BIG MEANIE! THIS BAND IS THE GREATEST BAND THAT EVER LIFED*, AND-"

People like this honestly make me wonder why they were born with mouths and fingers. I mean not everyone is going to agree with you. If you can't handle the fact, go jump off a cliff.

    * - Misspelled on purpose for example's sake.

  • tl;dr. I'd have to agree with your song selections, though. First time I heard MFOM is was like WTF is this sh*t?

  • Forgot to add a tl;dr

    Tl;dr

Whiny people piss me off, should end their lives if they get butthurt over what people say, just because they don't think the same.

    ______________

And agreed. First time I heard HotD, I wanted to become An Hero myself.

Metallica =/= Upbeat songs in Major Key.

You could tell they had to be trippin' balls on coke to write that shit.

  • What I was pissed about was how this shit could get started on a Ktulu video. IMO, it's the best riff from RtL.

  • I like Trapped Under Ice, myself, but Ktulu was definitely one of their better ones off RtL. Then again, Almost all of RtL was epic.

  • If your opinion is shit and you know it's pissing people of.. Don't even fucking bother, are you really suprised that people is whining about your opinion?!? If then you should really consider not commenting on youtube, that's how things is.

  • I'm not surprised, I just find it stupid that you manage to get so upset over what I say. Also, it's your opinion that my opinion is shit. Stop acting as though everyone thinks the same way as you do, because I'm not going to stop saying what I want to say just because you don't like it, and as a side note, your "My opinion is better than yours" attitude just makes you look stupid.

I'm not sorry that what I say bothers you, and I physically could not care less what you think of me, honestly.

  • @Jinxerz010792 I'm not getting upsetted by what you write, but that you cry about other people doing so is just lame. This is my second post I have never written to you before so quit the "Your" "My opinion is better than yours" Im not dumb dude, I have NEVER said I feel like that as I agree with you, but finding it sad to see you are getting so negative because of peoples opinion about your opinion.

  • My apologies, I thought you were that other guy for a second. I'm not getting negative either, at least not insofar as I see it, I'm just informing folks that I'm going to be me regardless of what other people want, and I just find it stupid that others would get upset because I have an opinion that's different than theirs. I'm not going out of my way to bitch about it specifically, I just expected something a little more intelligent from people, I suppose.

  • @Jinxerz010792 I see, have the same feeling sometimes, but I learned to just ignore it ;)

  • FUCK dave mustaine

  • are you sure that its kirk hammet and not dave mustaine? cause dave mustaine had also written some parts of call of ktulu/when hell freezes over.

  • This is Metallica. However, this is not "The Call of Ktulu. It's the original form written when Mustaine was in the band called "When Hell Freezes Over" I'm not even sure that this is actually live, as I have this exact same version on a boot of the Ride The Lightning Demos (Fight, Lightning, Creep and Ktulu) I think the crowd noise is added in, plus the solo is way different even from the live versions on the RTL tour.

Still something way cool to have that Needs to stay up on YouTube.

  • actually it is its from the 7th song of the album ride the lightning im not trying to be an ass i just thought i could educate u lol add me if you want and i can teach u all u want to know

  • lol dude.. i know alot of metallica and have most records i was just saying that this isnt metallica playing.. just not like them.

  • its an instermental

  • You must be ancient if you use songs like "records" dude.

    XD

  • its the 8th, the 7th its escape

  • 7th is creeping death, 6th is escape :D

  • that's music!

  • heres my line up

    cliff burton -bass

    dimebag -guitar

    Randy Rhoads-guitar

    Eric carr-drums

    Layne Staley-vocals

  • that would be an awesome line up

  • Only thing I'd change is Chuck Billy at vocals. Sickest Thrash band EVER.

  • Cool! Bon Scott, John Bonham, Jimi Hendrix, and "Dimwit" can play in the other afterlife band.

  • cliff burton, one of the greatest bass players.......

  • Gos wants to form the best band ever I mean first Cliff , then Dimebag, whos next??? Dave Lombardo, Joey Jordison for drums?

  • LOMBARDO!!!!

  • Cliff was Metallica! His death almost killed the band. That's the ugly truth. But they find the strength to continue without him and then they have created 2 amazing albums. Then.....chaos......

  • id say one
