Rodney always knocked my socks off hearing how deep his voice was and how talented all of the singers in this group were. An amazing group of men, down to earth and so uplifting to be around.
its beautifull, forthe people who think this is not the original, it is! not the singers, but the melody and the way its sung. and its been sung with respect, many singers of today forget what they are actually singing. and for what the song has originally been written.
To many people talking about singing bass here and very few have any idea what they are talking about. Rodney Britt is a good bass singer. Stays in his natural range.
actually it waswritten by an ex slave trader who became a vicar who saw african slaves being mistreated and became against the slave trade who voted against the slave trade and was a vicar in my county of northhamptonshire england
@doritosch i think he has a beautiful timbre in his voice. its so hard to sing below a low C while keeping steady pitch and tone. you know the old saying, if you don't have anything to nice to say ...blah blah blah. i very much despise naive comments like this.
Great hymn indeed. Actually Newton was English, not Welsh and he never worked for the East India Company, though his father did. The last post has too much of a modern slant: it was slavery that Newton opposed, not racism, the concept of which would have been alien in that era. Newton may have held what some may now consider racist views even after his shift on slavery. At its best 18th century society would have been patronising towards black people, seeing them as savages to be civilised
@tpfletcher Indeed. This song was actually considered his testimony and the tune to which it is set has the 5 notes of the "slave scale" that many old African-American spirituals were set to. He had been the former Captain of a slave trader and possibly heard that tune drifting up from the hold as a lament of some of the slaves.
I think Newton would have been among "the best" in his views towards black people after that point as he actually set his testimony to their music.
As i know it, as an english/welshman. a welshman who used to be in the EIC (east india tading company) who used to transport people as slaves, he went blind. after he went blind, realised racism was wrong, hence " amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. i once was lost, but now im found, am blind but now i see." meaning now he's was blind to the racism but now he sees it.
This is Rodney Britt and Keith Lancaster from Acappella's Conqueror's album that was released in 1986. Rodney is a powerhouse bass and can even sing quite lower than he does in this song. This was long before the days of Gary Evans. Tim Storms and Wes McKinzie are also amazing bass singers.
Not Gary... This is from way back in the 80's with Rodney Britt. The guy is a vocal hero with Superdeep Bass, and some great baritone and tenor vocals. Truly a talent given by God!
songs like these are compelling no matter what you listen to, this version of the song is not what i was looking for but you gotta admire the guys voice!
complete Awesome love their songs. i also like the the deep voice in this song and in their (holy holy holy) song.
