I NEVER FAIL to shake the hand of anyone I see in uniform in public and thank them for their service.

@easyable why?...when i was in iraq in '09 i was attached to a security platoon, so i rode in humvees from mahmudiyah to baghdad, meade, falcon, as security for the supply convoys. needless to say we had huge gas tankers on the road with us. i was hit with IED's and encountered more small arms fire than any single infantryman in my battalion. so please, unless you've been there, don't try to claim any single person should get more recognition.

Find it so funny how those who complain about our soldiers, who are negative towards them, even though they are underpaid and do as they are told. That's in Georgia right? I was there and there was nothing but soldiers and me and my dad stopped and talked to an MP in the Army. Huge transfer for the soldiers. I want to become a Ranger and my dad was like to the guy, "Yeah yeah, he's into the Rangers" Then I didn't say much.

@use2slam2 I'm a liberal, and the granddaughter of a US Navy captain who served in WWII and Korea (and his wife, my grandmother, was a 1st sgt in the Women's Army Corps during WWII), and two of my uncles are Army veterans and another uncle is a USMC veteran, and SEVERAL of my friends are millitary veterans, and my boyfriend is a veteran of the US Army 82nd combat engineers, Bravo company. I NEVER FAIL to shake the hand of anyone I see in uniform in public and thank them for their service.

Just because one is a liberal, that does not mean one is oblivious to the huge sacrifices made by the people in uniform. I grew up in Washington DC and learned serious respect for our troops. @use2slam2 In fact, earlier this week, when I was making a purchase at a local convenience store, one of the Navy recruiters was in line behind me, and I turned around and shook his hand and thanked him for his service. I've interrupted people's lunches to thank them. ANY time I see someone in uniform, I make sure to tell them "thanks for your service." I can't begin to fathom life so far away from one's home and family and whatnot.

My ex-husband returned from combat in Vietnam to be greeted by protesters who spit on him and called him unspeakable things. A very dark time for the US. I am grateful that we have learned to separate the politics of war from the warrior. To every soldier, sailor, airman, marine serving - thank you.

We aren't in Iraq specifically for oil. If we were, we wouldn't be staying longer than we need to for the training of Iraqi soldiers, Iraqi Special Forces, and Iraqi police forces.

I respect all branches and jobs. But to say the infantry are the real heroes? Everyone has a job. Im comms in the navy, and w/o us telling them that they are safe, w/o us watching their backs with radar, and shooting down missles before they hit us, they'd be in a lot worse position. Just b/'c some people's jobs in the military are not as dangerous, they are still just as important. And they are still away from home, just like everyone else.

@easyable why?...when i was in iraq in '09 i was attached to a security platoon, so i rode in humvees from mahmudiyah to baghdad, meade, falcon, as security for the supply convoys. needless to say we had huge gas tankers on the road with us. i was hit with IED's and encountered more small arms fire than any single infantryman in my battalion. so please, unless you've been there, don't try to claim any single person should get more recognition.
