I have to thank Tom Petty And the Heartbreakers. They inspired me to start a band and play the music that is dying out (thanks to bimbos like britney spears, Katy Perry, and Justin Bierber). But the classic and real music always out shines the crap music, it just takes some time.
I found the original a little too idiosyncratic for my tastes (that jarring piano solo that goes on for almost a minute!). Considering that 1993 was hardly a revolutionary year, I think Petty & Co. did a great job keeping it anthemic without sanitizing it.
its sad such a great song and only 19000 views there goes the historry of rock and roll all the great classics will be gone under hip hop and rap now im not saying hip hop is bad but its nothing like this song.

I personally prefer the Thunderclap Newman version of this song.

Ugh, a huge part of me wants the whole song just to be played slower but no one sings it like that.
Sigh.
Oh well, still dig the tune. :)

Sorry but I like the Thunderclap Newman version better. It was more somber and fitting for the lyrics.
