Everyone seems to be so opinionated on a video a guy put together because he's probably worked hard to train to do this, and he's excited to do something that 99% of the people in the world wouldn't do, nor could do. @Metzhiker, of course it's not impossible for those that regularly hike and glad you've done the JMT thru, "several times". To most people it is a big accomplishment, how about a word of encouragement vs. an opinion of negativity, or maybe you're just a negative type of guy?
who are all these angry asses on here. I tend to agree with the guy you are all trashing. I have hiked the JMT several times, while it is an amazing hike, too many people act like it is this impossible feat. It's a fun and scenic trail and I would recommend it to anyone, but again it's doable for anyone of any age. I am appalled at the anger sub70 and others have displayed, I thought real people with real outdoor spirit would be writing on such a video. It's his opinion and who are you to judge
@metzhiker -jeez.... really? who cares what you think? wow, you've hiked the jmt several times, man you're sooooo cool. it must be tough to watch a video someone's posted about their own trek and be happy for them huh? newsflash buddy, for plenty of people out there thru hiking the jmt IS an impossible feat. how blessed we are to be able to venture into the high sierra for fun and play. stop knocking someone because they posted something you've already done. just another elitist....
@metzhiker -REAL people with REAL outdoor spirit don't knock someone for completing something like the jmt, they congratulate them regardless of how many times they may have done it themselves... that's the difference between being a man and being an elitist jerk. not everyone is bear grylls...
Josh: there were lots of logistics we had to iron out prior to start time... the most difficult one was to score a permit from Happy Isles. You cannot plan ahead until you have possession of the coveted "Golden Ticket". That is what the Yosemite Rangers call the thru-hike permit. Only 6 individual permits a day are awarded.
Good luck bro!! Ignore the A/Hs. Delete their fricken meaningless entries!!!
S/U marlow... A/H!!! No one is talking about friken Everest!!! If you can't cheer up the man then stay the hell out A/H!!
Josh; unless you plan on going for the speed record, stop running and start hiking... with a pack. The trail is not technical but it will kick your butt if ur not ready. I saw countless of people bail out.
Josh: U go man!! I'm just back from the trail. Awesome trek. Mr JMT himself, Reinhold Metzger (JMT five day hiking record holder) was in the area with his wife. On Sep 7, 2009, a guy named Brett Maune shattered the unsupported JMT speed record, running from Whitney Portal to Happy Isles in 3 days, 14 hours and 13 minutes. We met hikers from Spain, England, Scottland, Australia, Germany and France. We got rained on and hailed on. Best of all, the PCTers were in their best behavior ever!I
oh come off it marlowe80, you asshole... from the looks of it, you're the only one here that's lame. so what if completing the jmt solo isn't like topping out on everest, who are you to rain on anyone else's parade? you must be better than everybody else huh, man it must be pretty rough being an elitist and having to live amongst us mere mortals... screw the naysayers josh, i hope you enjoy your journey and don't let douchebag tools like marlowe80 take anything away from it.
the jmt is no stroll in the park and anyone completing it has every right to be proud. true there are more challenging treks and ascents out there but that doesn't take anything away from anyone competing this beautiful trail. i can't stand these outdoor elitists who think they're better than everyone else. your shit stinks just like the rest of ours, marlowe. stop looking down your nose at the world and keep your rude, unsolicited comments to yourself.
