  • Gordon Freeman may not have any lines, but he's got personality of a sort, in how the characters in the game treat him. The characters that are his friends speak to him familiarly, like to a friend. The downtrodden who look up to him call him by titles and treat him reverently. You get the sense that people care about Gordon. If he died, there would be a reaction. Breen would be ecstatic. Many would mourn.

Isaac is some kind of dog that everyone orders around. If he died, would anyone care?

  • since they made dead space 2 are you going to do a htsf of it?

  • Well the tenticle things DID look like RE5 stuff..

  • This probably would have been an A-list game if EA hadn't focused its resources on other things. This game could have been amazing if they had focused on this more. Even Armake21 agrees that If they had focused on this more it would've rocked your face off. (Not exactly those words, but he implied the same thing)

  • I quite want Deadspace 2 now, so many games coming out that I want, gaming-winter to come I think.

  • This is why OTG is awesome. He's the kind of gamer we all should be. He thinks past the super awesome parts and finds the parts that fault the game, because those are just as important IMO.

A lot of reviewers seriously get caught up in the good parts (things OTG mentioned or whatever) and then forget about anything else. I question who or what was scared by dead space though. Maybe some people might be scared the first time they run into a new type of enemy, but nothing more

  • the playlist put this video as 67 out of 66...

  • id rate it a 84 about i think

  • Xbox World 360 awarded the Xbox 360 version a 91 out of 100, stating the game was a "nail-biting experience," driven forward by a "film-worthy" script and "inspired" setting, and that it was "Rapture in space (a reference to the underwater setting of hit game BioShock): every bit as disturbing, just as meticulously designed and easily as believable."

    *chuckle*

  • LOL! I literally lol'd.

  • The force grab smelled of the HL2 gravity gun.

Buying and upgrading smelled alot of RE4's stystem but with more freedom (bad freedom).

  • There is an Acheivement for only useing the plasma cutter throughout the whole game without useing /buying anyother guns, if you upgrade the plasma cutter maxed out it will destroy everything cause it cuts like crazy, just aim the limbs, or shoot the body like a retard and somehow blast its arm of leg off, its actually pretty easy with the plasma cuttter cause its alot faster then the guns OTG was useing

  • "I've seen thimbles of water with more depth than dead space" I couldn't stop laughing until the end of the video when I heard that!

  • It's a shame you never tried out the Z-Ball mini game thing. It's interesting... and like the shooting range, it gives you a nice handful of goodies for the effort.

  • Dead Space : Extraction is the upcoming pre-sequel of Dead Space and it is coming out for the Wii (i think it comes out this year)

  • a pre-sequel of a game would be the game itself

  • oops! typo *prequel* thx for pointing that out!

  • There's another major difference between Issac and Gordon Freeman: the way people perceive them. From what I've seen (never played the game, sorry), Gordon is often seen in a messianic light, praised highly for doing even the simplest of tasks ("Great job, Gordon, throwing that switch and all."), whereas Issac is more-or-less a workhorse ("Good, the huge-ass monster's killed. Now head back to wherever and do some more shit.").

  • Also you can choose weither to be a douchebag or not in Half Life 2. For whatever reason flinging props as friendlies always make me laugh but you can't shoot anything that's even remotely human in this game. Like that guy banging his head on the wall, he wasn't even human I don't even thing he was alive. I think it was just the nerves in the body, and Isaac wasn't allowed to shoot it? Balls to that.

  • The guy who said " Great job, Gordon, throwing that switch and all " was being sarcastic. Gordon is seen as a savior because he has survived so much publicised chaos against a massive military power that has taken over so much shit.

  • wow, generous is our OTG, quite. it was pretty fun watching you play this, i was curious as to whether to play this game or not, thanks for testing it ;D

    see you next mission!

  • EA got served by the comments of OTG!

And i did enjoy u commenting this game

U got comical talents lad :P

  • The helmet may make him seem like more of a robot, but then again. They thought he shouldn't have him remove the mask, it was there to protect him from the monsters and keep him breathing. That's a smart thing to do.

Gorden would be screwed with no air, he had no helmet because he never needed one. Issac does.

  • the only game i found too scary to play was Forbidden Siren, purely because every character you were was completely useless and it was big on the psychology, which i rele suck at blocking out.

  • The difference between Isaac and Gordon is the PoV. Being that you are in Gordon's head, you feel like you are Gordon. All your emotions are his. With Isaac, he can't have your reactions because you can see that he doesn't There is a denial of emotion from him.

Also, the mask does play into it certainly, even though you only see Gordon on the box, you see his face and know it.

  • I feel that they should make a sequel, not because I loved the first, but because I feel that they can make some serious improvements and squeeze a really good game out of the name.

  • You hear that EA? if you are gonna make Dead Space 2 talk to OTG for advice!!!!

  • agreed and for advice on how to make evan us hard to scare gamers jump go to Steven King. there is no one else that i could think of that would give you awesome advice on how to make someone shit & piss their pants but i'm proply asking for far too much

  • dude you must play it on impossible it will probably be more of a challange because the items are different all the time except for several boxes

  • great walkthrough though many times while watching this i just noticed things instintly, like how to do things that take you forever to find out ad a whole bunch of scamatics and stuff, it just made me want to scream at you "look there" or "do this...". I saw this entire thing in less then 24 hours. Just auto played the playlist.

    5 stars

    definitely subscribing

you should go into the comedy bis

  • I agree. What got to me the most was the fact that he'd constantly walk around with hardly any health despite his absolutely massive stock of health kits.

  • Bit of info for people who are interested to see more Dead Space.

    Wikipedia:

"A sequel to the game is in development as well as a possible movie release to 'bridge the gap between the two games'."

Also, about the part where the *cough* screamer *cough* appears, OTG got the slightly "dumbed-down" version of that.

  • i really have to thank him for this walkthrough/review. i was definitely thinking about buying it, but now a serious rent.

it seems like all the story for the game comes from the little animated comics that they released before the game came out.

in regards to that story, it was very interesting. but the game kinda lost the story, or more like it relies on the story from the comics to pull it through.

like OTG said, could have been awesome

    Thanks again OTG

  • lol i came across this by accident and wasnt sure about the walkthrough at first but i gotta say i really enjoyed watching these videos =D nicely done otg

  • i thought the last little rant about this game was pure funny it was fucking funny and made alot of good points nice job otg another epic fail nice one

  • good game and good job on the walkthrough

  • This game Is ok, but If you think about It, It Is a dumb persons dream. I don't really mean that In a bad way though, I should just say a person who doesn't pay attention to the story and the actual brainy part of the game, and all they do Is look at the action and gore and say "Ooooh pretty!". But If you look at It In a smart persons way then when you boil It down this game Isn't so great overall. The story line Is good but not explained well and the "survival" aspect Isn't so good. 6.3/10

  • it needed more cowbell.

  • Isaac has worse character development than Gordon Freeman and Master Chief combined, I can't recall Isaac saying a word and has expressed only one emotion when he saw girlfriend suicide video, other than that he is a robot! OTG was the only one to give Isaac a personality, a very humorous one to cover the empty one. I praise you OTG for having a great and upbeat personality to makeup for Isaac's silence. Otherwise I would have fallen asleep watching the entire HTSF. All in one sitting in fact.

  • Well, I personally liked the game... Even with all it's shortcomings... Then again, I also liked Extermination for PS2... The two games have a similar feel to them, in my mind, as well as certain elements.

Still, the best part of Dead Space was chopping apart the monsters, especially in slow-mo! Even if it wasn't "strategic", it was still satisfying. lol Zero-G was nifty too, and the atmosphere/settings were well done.

  • did you ever notice that there are no mirrors in hl2? yea. not supposed to see gordon

  • Well i completed DS a few days ago on the ps3 and i liked it, i also hope to see a DS2 and maybe hope they resolve the story and there realy need more bosses. There are only 3 main bosses in the entire game bar the brutes and regenerators(witch u cant kill until near the end of the game).

  • dead space 2 seaqual will be cald dead space 2 "the return of the dead space"

  • or dawn of the dead space or night of the living dead space!

  • gordon never talks he never does neither does isaac they're both robotic, well gordon is a strange guy all you really know about him is that hes an MIT graduate that becomes a god damn soldier! wtf is that all 'bout how can a scientist become a fucking soldier has know experience in weapons and seems to save the day...thats what i hated about gordon and also the fact he never talked, i hated that so much...he could have at least said fuck you to breen...

  • I dont pay attention to any game critics ratings of games. If I liked it, then I dont care what anyone gave it. I loved Dead Space, even though I found some puzzles really dumb/boring. Overall, I loved it, and I plan on getting any sequels that come out for it.

  • Graphics 8/10 quite good but not perfect for example the faces

Details 9/10 very detailed! but the blood could be better

    Sound 10/10 perfect.

Ambience 7/10 sometimes awesome sometimes failed.

    Functions 9/10 grabbing etc awesome

Storyline 4/10 awesome story tho, but they failed at storytelling...

Getting IN storyline 1/10 failed. you dont get introduced into anything

Hard/Easy 4/10 this totally isnt survival.

this is a 6,5/10 from me.

  • I agree with your assessment of this game OTG. Its not an A-list game. The Characters could have been better, it had boring parts, and it was way too predictable.

  • waaaah, i just watched everything about this game, now, it seems like shit.

i really wanted too get it, but now with this review, im most likely not going too get it. if deadspace 2 comes, then that well be awesome, because hopefully they fix alot of stuff in DS2, that wasnt all there in deadspace.

  • And for it being better than Resident evil 4 or even being Resident evil 4 in space. I think it really does fall short. It does not compete with that.

  • You know I totally Agree with you Otg. From a person that expects a game like this to live up to the potential that I could have been. It does look like a great game. But where are the Bosses? There should have been a lot more. For me the Story line really did fall short. And With that environment they could have easily taken advantage and made psychologically more terrifying, but they didn't even with the hallucinations they could have actively implemented some sort of horror in that aspect.

  • I liked this game a lot... although the story/end left me wanting more from it.

And I really enjoyed watching OTG play this one (sorry if I complained too much though lol)!

I finally got to watch Downfall... Pretty good prequel-tie-in... Explained a few things I wanted to know, even if it did have some inconsistencies.

  • LLiam, you enjoyed it. Thats the main thing. I do agree with you on everything, but then again; I didnt buy this :P

  • I love the rants at the end =P...Oh yeah and what's next OTG?

  • You rarely see Gordon Freeman, I think the only time he is seen outside of art work is in Blue Shift

The distinction is the character's reactions to him, and the fact you see through his eyes, and not in '2nd person'.

I think its the lack of other characters with Issac to interact with is what killed him.

  • I thought initially that they might have been parasites that hid in those parts of the body to control it, but the game quickly disproved my theory with the "plot".

  • Well I wonder if you will like DeadSpace 2 that EA games said is coming out soon...Probably gonna cost a crap load of cash but, Deadspace 2.

  • argh i cant agree more OTG the gore was fine and the atmosphere and graphics was perfect, but well thats bout it

out of 100 id give it about 70ish :/

  • Plot twist: holographic locator tool turns out to be Shodan!

In regards to the horror aspect, we're so desensitised I don't think you can make genuine 'shit yer pants' horror for hardcore gamers anymore. Weve seen it all before whether its psychological, shock or gorefests. Casual gamers are another matter though if they're just getting into it.

  • I think if it DID turn out to be Shodan I would crap myself in fear.

  • nope they dont its left with a sense of wtf?

  • Actually from what I've heard Dead Space 2 has been confirmed already.

anyway, good set as always man.

  • i hate to say this old bean but you just shoved yourself in the "first" boat.

terribly sorry, but even saying first immediately kicks you on your first box.
