I am an American who spent time in Algiers. I consider it a hidden gem and I think Algeria has great potential for the future. I found the people very friendly and generous. There may be some places you want to steer clear of but that is true of most cities, isn't it? I was told to avoid the Casbah for example, though I really wanted to see it. Thanks for the video, brings back good memories. I hope to return.
@alvie3 It's true that it does have potential, even though Algeria as a whole may not be as developed in the tourism industry compared to Tunisia, Morocco and especially Egypt. Definitely Algiers does have a distinctive colonial charm as already seen on this video. However due to the security related issues, it does hamper its tourism industry a bit.
Thank you. Just how safe is it for foreigners right now? As you know, good news are seldom reported so Algiers does not make the headlines nowadays;all the info I get on Algiers stems from the horror stories of the 1990s or the Yasmina Khadra books.
Yasmina Khadra is a fag. you have 100 times more likely to be assaulted in Rio rather than algiers! Algeria is not Kabul, you can come there is no risk.
Only an Arab cunt like you named Tarek, who probably hasn't left home yet and thinks we have anything in common, would dare to think that women are second class citizens in Algeria. Crawl back to whatever cave you came out of.

Tu as battu mon record!!!
Nice video. I can see that Algiers doesn't have any traffic lights just like Cairo

Algeirs would be a very great city if they could clean up all the trash and garbage and women weren't viewed as second class citizens.
