I totally prefer this version! Wow. BatB is a classic pop/rock album that will be with me until the day I die. I have always loved the 'tear my world aparrrrrrrrt' part.. x
@bobo007xx New Wave to me is more synth-driven and has more production (Depeche Mode, New Order). This has more of a rockish sound with definite pop sensibilites (melody, harmony and a proper verse, chorus, verse chorus, format).
@petie71 yes i understand, but i was there when new wave came, and actually it was rock with a beat, the synth came a little later.in fact for a couple of years new wave was more guitar based,(fleshtones girl from baltimore, phil collins beat-let me into your life, jim carroll band),than electronica, but they both are new wave.
lene lovich for example, bruce wolley.again all we had was antham rock and oldies, then this guitar based beat music came and it was the start of the New Wave.gogos are new wave
@petie71 one more thing, new wave is very melody based music, thats why we loved it when it came.it wasnt the corporate shit we were hearing all the time.only kroq played it-Rodney on the roq,.and it was a mix of stynth at times,(the passions-im in love with a german film star).it came inn 1977-1978,the gogos were never on the mainstream radio until the 80's,it was distinct and different from old school rock and roll, disco, and pop.
thank god for new wave.it changed some radio for the better.
@petie71 some 177 new wave was bare bones low, sparse production ,the lizards-i want money for example.again the gogos were considered to be new wave, blondie also
.the real punks didnt consider them real punk, but at times they played punk style.i feel sorry for those who are growing up today,as most music sucks.
@bobo007xx The real punks did indeed consider the Go-Go's a punk band - as they were a punk band initially. They were actually very pivotal in the early L.A. punk scene. They were in the same muscial and social circle as all of the other early L.A. punk bands. The Go-Go's didn't go "New Wave" until their first album - they traded in their punk music for more accessible surfy, New Wave pop. Prior to that, no one would have ever claimed they WEREN'T a punk band - as they most definitely were.
@bobo007xx Actually, it was most definitely punk rock. The Go-Go's were a punk band initially. They lived at the infamous Canterbury and were all very much part of the inner L.A. punk circle - playing with, supporting and hanging out with X, the Germs, The Bags, The Plugz, Black Randy, the Dils, etc., at the Masque and the Whiskey. They were a pivotal part of the L.A. punk scene, as much as any of the early punk bands were. They only later traded in their punk sound for their first album.
The album version is good but this is better.

Is it just me, or does this version sound like The Cure in the early 80s?

The transition from the chorus to the second verse is sick! I'm not sure which version I love more, they're both incredible.

If it's the demo for Stiff records then it's Margot on bass. I liked Kathy but it must have
really been a bummer for Margot being replaced at the last minute before
the group became famous. Like the Beatles Pete Best, how does one ever recover
from something like that.
