He often didn't seem to care whether he insulted his bosses, gave the guests a hard time, or genuinely piss off people from other shows. It was refreshing to see a host do a show as if it were his last and had nothing to lose. Hosts these days try to replicate some of that energy, but everyone does it now to a degree that it's just part of the expected talk show formula.
