@FToniS In the NT its okay for a man to divorce a woman if she displeases him or commits adultery. The language is pretty clear that only the man really matters in those cases. Just a few verses where women are considered subservient to men in the NT. There isn't much room for characters, so instead of quoting the verses, I just cited them.
This documentary is full of inaccuracies. I'm shocked at the bad presentation, particularly some of the inaccurate statements he makes in regard to women in the New Testament.
It isn't within the Words of the book that gives you eternal life, it is the subject of the word of God that is rewarded. The same could be said for the Bible without these "Gospels", Books cannot save you from hell, it is faith, and faith is built through understanding, and understanding of God's word brings salvation not the literal words but the premise of what was said.

As for quoting scripture, the Bible is my ultimate authority. It's the very foundation of my faith. Without it, Christianity is just a social club. The canon was voted on in the Council of Nicea, it's true, but we believe that not only were the writers inspired by God in their words, those at the council were inspired in their choice. Everything in the Bible was meant to be there, and the other "gospels" left out of the Bible were left out for a reason.

It relies on accuracy, but history shows that we havnt been that accurate- which is why science is always improving but creating more unanswered questions in the process. It doesnt prove the existence of god, but it doesnt unprove it either. What I meant by complimenting is it works like opposites like black is to white, male is to female. i don't think today that any of these 'revelations' would be shocking to us but back 1500 years ago in the western 'roman' world they would have been which is why some books are probably missing from the bible. The real original Bible is lost because of the selfishness of others. Shortly after God sent revelations to Prophet Muhammed and those revelations never changed because people memorized the book so that no one could change the original text. God tells us in the Holy Quran that Jesus was not killed, but that God had lifted him up to the heavens before they could hurt him and Jesus will return to complete his life on this Earth.

Isn't it far more likely, and sensible, that Thomas' texts, which are of the earliest in christianity, is an unembellished version of Jesus' teachings, and the later accepted "Gospels" are instead the heretical, and obviously embellished, versions??!!

In fact, if Matthew 7:13-14 is true, and Christianity consists of the largest number of people among all faiths, most definitely wouldn't be going to heaven after death. Something basically reiterated in Thomas v. 74. So who is right? Whoever is persecuted the most, according to even the canonical gospels -- Matthew 24:8-14; I assume that includes other Christians, especially the largest denominations, due to these facts.

(Romans 3:23). No matter how good to try to be, you will always fail because no one is "good" but God alone.

And while we fall short of that, we must always be striving to be more like Christ. We are to "spur each other on to love and good deeds" (Hebrews 10:24). As for quoting scripture, the Bible is my ultimate authority. It's the very foundation of my faith. Without it, Christianity is just a social club. The canon was voted on in the Council of Nicea, it's true, but we believe that not only were the writers inspired by God in their words, those at the council were inspired in their choice. Everything in the Bible was meant to be there, and the other "gospels" left out of the Bible were left out for a reason.

It IS only the "inner circle" or "insiders" who can interpret these teachings and parables. Only a handful of souls in each generation knows of the inner light and sound. this esoteric knowledge is availble to anyone. Before anything else is 'I AM'. Even 'I AM' is an appearance but it is the first appearance and a good starting place for exploration of this kind. I AM is timeless. It feels the same now as it did when my body was 50 years younger. I AM is neither male nor female. I AM is prior to all other characteristics I may have as a person. one saying in the gospel of thomas states that jesus said, "you will not find me in houses of wood and stone" (churches) "lift a stone and you will find me hew a piece of wood and I am there" basically you will find him in nature not a building. a pagan way to worship & that would have been VERY dangerous to the authority of the church, so they condemned it as heresy, in order to keep control and power. they knew they would have ultimate power if they were the only way for people to reach god!

As for life on Earth!!!! Considering that the Universe was nine billion years old when our solar system formed I think that theres a good chance that life on our planet arrived in a primative bacterial form during the early bombardment .

you are still missing the point. Science is only as good as the observations that we perceive. It relies on accuracy, but history shows that we havnt been that accurate- which is why science is always improving but creating more unanswered questions in the process. It doesnt prove the existence of god, but it doesnt unprove it either. What I meant by complimenting is it works like opposites like black is to white, male is to female. Alchemy is a form of chemistry by the way.

i don't think today that any of these 'revelations' would be shocking to us but back 1500 years ago in the western 'roman' world they would have been which is why some books are probably missing from the bible. The romans were very much into the control and 'peace' of the empire. I don't think it was a bad intention to 'hide' books of the bible but more of the roman empires goal of keeping unity and control of the masses. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing....

A lot of what Jesus taught was how to communicate with God through Light.He stated in parts of the bible that he was the Light and God is Light and we can also be Light when we are reborn.He was trying to teach us how we can become Light and become Christlike when we are reborn in the next life.He told people that we cannot die.We can all rise again when we learn what to do before our physical body dies.Only the physical body dies.

@MsStormcrow but then the premise of population control, relating to the gospels, is slightly incorrect (I say slightly). The inquisition was a manipulation of an influential socio-cultural movement or force for the purpose of advancing the agenda of an elite, just like any other terrible historical event. I do agree THAT was about control, but that event was conducted long after the gospels were selected as canon.

Whoever controls the flow of information, controls the minds of millions, potentially billions. Read the Bible as it is now, and you would follow it's teachings (and especially the ones doing the teaching) blindly. Read it with these additional gospels, and it's more complex and realistic -- a true challenge to those who think. But with most people, emotion trumps logic or reasoning...

The real original Bible is lost because of the selfishness of others. Shortly after God sent revelations to Prophet Muhammed and those revelations never changed because people memorized the book so that no one could change the original text. God tells us in the Holy Quran that Jesus was not killed, but that God had lifted him up to the heavens before they could hurt him and Jesus will return to complete his life on this Earth.

Pete Owens' take on this is rather disturbing, but, since this is the BBC, and he's an "Anglican priest", it must be assumed this is being shaped by their wants and needs..
Isn't it far more likely, and sensible, that Thomas' texts, which are of the earliest in christianity, is an unembellished version of Jesus' teachings, and the later accepted "Gospels" are instead the heretical, and obviously embellished, versions??!!
Why is it so hard for people to logically see this for what it really is?!!

@MrPoopybum I believe so, also. All those texts are in play. They aren't all 100% correct but there are huge swaths of truth worth believing in there. We can't toss it all out. But I also accept why people reject Thomas and the other texts. My beliefs are mine and not contingent on someone else's

Why would he love one male disciple over the others? The first miracle performed by Christ was making wine at a wedding. It was the cultural custom for the bridegroom to provide the wine. The writer of Revelation went under the name of John, but why was this disciple exiled rather than executed?

Women are at the heart of Christianity, her name is Mary, the Theotokos, the God-Bearer. Maybe if the West hadn't left the Orthodox Church and the veneration of the female as seen in the Theotokos, there wouldn't be such fanaticism about wanting to elevate women to a higher point in the Christian faith.
