  • JUST MISSED!!! "Watching Scotty Grow" just missed making the Billboard's Hot Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 and spent a total of 13 weeks in the Hot Top 100 in 1970/71, it entered the charts on Dec. 26th, 1970!!!

  • I wonder if Scotty is the kid from Honey & Bobby!!

  • My mom sang this ta me as a baby

  • season 3

  • i was simpsons where they build the car

  • I was named after this song.

  • I"M actually a SCOTT and I remember this song. burp

  • Simpsons sent me here

  • thumbs up if your name is scott

  • WOW!!!! i have this on a45 and it is very warped sooooo great to hear it as it should be thnx so much for the memories

  • this is a song that can really twist the strings around one`s heart............esp. when you have a son named scotty...........

  • I remember my mom always playing this when I was young. :'(

  • This is my dads favorite song!

  • The Simpsons did not send me here, but the memory of playing this identical 45rpm record did. I still have this record, I think I'll dig it out and start playing it again.

  • This was when music was music. It had a message..and left you feeling good and hopeful. :)

  • I kinda miss records, I miss the stacks of 45's I used to have. Man, that was about a eon ago.

  • what is that thing spinning around in the video ?

  • @ilovealaska ROFLMAO, are u serious???

  • @soccerlova12345 ..... LOL.. No.

  • @ilovealaska It was called a record, kinda like a CD only they were way bigger. Now they call them vinals, or vynals, whatever, we just called them records. Ahhhh, good times, never come again.

  • My parents use to play this for me as a baby.

  • pogo's remix of this - meetings at the meadow, check it out!

  • @wellYOUmakeAgoodNAME No thanks

  • @sunshinepoprevival haha wow

  • This song just makes me plain happy. I remember the classic Simpsons episode this was on, with Homer and Bart building the soapbox derby, then the one from 2004, I think, with them building the robot.

  • Thanks for the sentiments, AnneMarie. I wonder how many on Y.T. are from the B.A.? Tons, I'll bet! The B.A. has always been a center for fab music, going back to Jefferson Airplane, The Beau Brummels, The Dead, etc. I'm so glad I lived those days, are'nt you glad you did? Was I right about the "15"? Maybe some day, if California develops a sudden case of sanity, I might be able to move back to my beloved native state! Are you still in the B.A.? Stay well, and love your family. Regards, Rick

  • To me, this song conjures up bittersweet memories. It came out in October of 1970, right after I arrived in Vietnam. It always made me think of my nephew, Scotty, who was only two, and who I deeply loved! Unfortunately, as is sometimes the case, he made a little money when he became an "adult", and became a self-absorbed, arrogant, dismissive, and narcissistic ass! Because of that, we no longer speak, but I have wonderful memories of shared kisses and hugs!

  • @sixtiesrockboy Oh, that is so very precious!! That was such a rough time period to be in, & you were in the thick of things!! Wow. And now your nephew is all grown up!!!

My first baby was born a month before this song became popular. This was a time in San Francisco when having kids was not the most popular thing to do, & this song was so loving; so very encouraging, as I truly believed that taking care of my son was the most important thing I could do.

You were a good uncle, I am sure!!

  • @1955annemarie I'm guessing from your screen name, that you were a young mother. You were right! Taking care of your son WAS the most important thing! He did'nt ask to be here, and without the protection of a mother and-or father, he would'nt have survived or felt secure! You're right about S.F.! I'm from El Cerrito, Ca., and they call heterosexuals "breeders" in S.F.! Very insulting! How do they think THEY got here!? I tried to be a good uncle, but things don't always work.! Love your name!

  • @sixtiesrockboy Thanks!! That was really sweet!! I did my best...I was very young and didn't know anything, but I did my best to take care of my kids...and now they're all grown, and so are most of my grandkids!!

I hope that one day your nephew will reevaluate you as his uncle, and how blessed he was to have you, even if he doesn't remember your love and care, you still nourished his soul and his spirit!!

  • love this song. This is where I got my son's name Scott. He will be 40 yrs this year. This is his middle name but we called him Scott his whole life. Loved all of Bobby Goldsboro songs. Awesome.

  • Corporal Watching Grow?

  • i was five or six maybe seven- 1970-73 -what an awesome song -never forgot it- only remember the 45 with me and honey on the reverse side-

  • @diamonddhk222 If this song didn't bring a tear to your eye then Honey would for sure.

  • @Manwithjeep I have to agree!! "See the tree, how big it's grown, but friend, it hasn't been too long, it wasn't big. And I laughed at her & she got mad, the first day that she planted it was just a twig. Then the first snow came & she ran out to brush the snow away so it wouldn't die; came running in all excited, tripped & almost hurt herself, & I laughed till I cried. And Honey, I miss you! And I'm being good. And I'd love to be with you, if only I could..." Great song about real love!!

  • Oh man, that was one of the early ones in my memory, born in "63". I haven't heard this one in 40 years.

  • @astrofrk yeah the world is messed up aint it

  • I was named after this song. I am a U.S. Marine, and a combat veteran, I guess God did watch me grow.

  • @Cplbeast In the summer of 1979, I was 9 months pregnant, and found myself pushing my way to the front of a special Bobby Goldsboro concert at Disney World, waiting for him to sing this song. I too was going to name that baby Scotty after this song. But my beautiful baby is my daughter Jennifer who God and I watched grow into a special woman.

  • @Cplbeast GOD BLESS YOU BUDDY FROM A FELLOW SCOTT!!!

  • song got stuck in my head!!!

  • Watching my helmet head grow:)

  • Bobby made some great records. This is one I've not heard before. Must find the Simpsons clip. Cheers.

  • I think this song and cat's cradle, by harry chapin, should be required listening for all new parents. Beautiful and full of good advice.

  • For some reason, this song popped into my head last night while I was sleeping. Happy to see/hear it again.

  • Mr. Goldsboro.......above and beyond the call of decency, in a good way. Teddy bear named Fred, ha.

  • OK I know the music intelligentsia consider this song useless drivel, but there are a whole lotta songs out there that are a whole lotta worse than this one. I've always liked the horns here; reminds me of the horns on "Take A Letter Maria" by RB Greaves

  • IS THIS PARANORMAL, /X/?

  • My father gave me up as a child and my aunt (his sister) said she use to listen to this song and cry, wondering were I was and what was happening in my life.

This is the first time I have heard the song

  • my son was about the age of "scotty" when this song came out. thanks for the post.

  • @croc123abc Depends.... I'd take Fort Minor over this anyday but if we're talking Justin Bieber then yes, I agree.

  • 10 people hate scotty

  • This was the first song played at my brothers service when he died. I love you scotty and i miss you so much. Lucas his son misses daddy. You were not only my brother you were my best friend. I love you! Scott M. Oliver 1977- 2010 R.I. P. bro

    Love your sister

  • This was the first song played at my brothers service when he died. I love you scotty and i miss you so much. Lucas his son misses daddy. You were not only my brother you were my best friend. I love you! Scott M. Oliver 1977- 2010 R.I. P. bro

  • Was 8 when this song peaked and it always makes my cry. Thanks for posting it.

  • thumbs up if the simpsons brought you here

  • @JackyVengeance123 The soap box derby episode, if I recall.

  • @TheTigersfan20 nope season 15 episode 9 episode where homer is a fake robot :)

  • my daddy listen to this for an hour........ I love him so much.

  • thats really cool how bobby has that wig glued to his head.a gallon on hairspray.

  • too bad honey wasnt there to watch wit him

  • ll XD just watched this on that simpson episode where homer gets defeated by robots XD

  • I remember my parents playing this song for me as a kid. I doubt they named me after it, but it was funny hearing my name in a song. My favorite line was always "Mickey Mouse says it's thirteen o'clock, well, that's quite a shock!" lol. I remember the 45 label was black and had a purple and blue car on it, one of those old ones with the fins...Ah, the memories :)

  • God! i love this song *-*

  • As a 46 year old named Scott, I remember my dad singing this song to me about 40 years ago. I sing it to my song now.

  • we named our son after this song back in september 5,1977 and he went to be with the Lord on January22nd 2007. We will always treasure this song

  • @08Appy My condolences. It's wonderful, though, that you can have this song to honor him.

  • favourit song of Brad Garrett :) <3

  • Children are priceless and precious and I remember my daddy carrying me up to bed when we had been out somewhere. I remember one time I cut my foot on a rusty beer can and dad would check it everyday to make sure it wasn't infected. He's 86 yrs. old now and just had heart surgery. He worries me because he isn't feeling well. I know his days are numbered and I am not prepared for his departure.

  • Can you flip that record over and put up Water Color Days?

My Aunt Gladys had this awesome record on her jukebox @ Wards Cafe in Licking Mo. I used to tease my cousin Scott about this song but I always liked Water Color Days better. 1 play for 10cents or 3 for 25cents.... Priceless memories...

  • I was named after this song!

  • heard this on yes dear :D

  • @gtaPeoPLehunT3R Me too!

  • i know mac davis wrote this song, but bobby goldsboro`s version is so precious

  • NOTHING LIKE A GREAT 45

  • Look at Bart and Homer working together :)

  • This song is so cute! Just makes me smile:)

  • my son was born wen this was a hit

  • I think this was on 2 different episodes of the Simpsons. They always manage to hit a nerve on that show. Don McLean's Vincent was on that show, too and it really got to me. Those guys are amazing!

  • you made my day this is my cousin funeral song

  • Mickey Mouse says it's thirteen o clock.....We'll that's quite a shock!, That's my boy!.

  • @satanichandpuppet Make sure you get all that cum out of your ass while you're at it.

  • @satanichandpuppet Don't you just love giving birth to your brother's and sisters just like you were birthed? Circle of life (or toilet) whatever your family calls it.

  • Great song.Means a lot to me.

  • I Haven't heard this song in about 30 years until just now.Memory Lane wow!

  • I actually signed into this account to reply to the idiot "the SuperMetroid" Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and if you hate Bobby Goldsboro I honestly can't figure out why you're even on his music site, but get your facts straight. Bobby Goldsboro didn't even write "Honey" It was written by Bobby Russell. I hate idiots who disrespect people when they have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. Do a little research Super Idiot!

  • @kencatfan01 Umm, hey asshole this isn't his "music site" it's youtube. It's not a fan page or anything like it, and these comments are for discussion rather than just mindless praise. And so what if he didn't actually write Honey, he still performed it, which means he thought it was quality music. Sadly for us all, it is not and so ol' Bobby just looked like even more of an idiot singing about trees and how he laughed at his wife's pain and agony. Bobby shoulda left the singin' to the pros

  • @theSuperMetroid So you are so pathetic that you surf the net to find random artists and post your vitriolic, untrue and unresearched comments. (You can look up vitriolic up in a dictionary) Wow! How impressive! What artist do you like? I assume that The Beatles and Elvis were hacks too? I believe that you are a failed musician who gets his rocks off on putting singers who actually made money singing down? No need to try to make me look bad...just try and make yourself look better. Impossible..

  • @kencatfan01 Umm...or maybe I just heard I song that sucked and expressed my decidedly negative opinion of it? Seriously, you think you have me figured out after reading a comment I left on youtube? You are beyond stupid, my friend. And who are you to judge me? You created a youtube account and felt the need to show off with your "dictionary words" just to try to show up someone you don't even know. You're either really sad or really bored. Either way it's kinda funny watching you overreact.

  • @theSuperMetroid I actually saw you bullying on Engagedatcamp and I can't stand bullies. That and you didn't have your facts straight and I hate it when people show there incompetence with crud that they think people will believe. Another analysis: You think that you are much smarter than you actually are. Am I wrong again?

  • @kencatfan01 Umm... I have no clue what " Engagedatcamp" is. Is that a website or some video here or something? And ok so I got one fact wrong. Deal with it, especially since the truth only makes your precious idol Bobby Goldsboro look even worse. And I never claimed to be smart. I'm just an average Joe-shmo who came here to voice my criticism of a terrible singer. You're the one trying to act all superior by telling me I'll have to use a dictionary and trying to analyze me. You're a hypocrite

  • @theSuperMetroid My God you really are an idiot. It was the person you were belittling about Bobby! Anyway I only like the two Goldsboro songs that you degraded. At least you impressed me by spelling hypocrite correctly. Maybe there is hope for you, but you better look up the term because you sure didn't use it correctly!

  • Excuse me for not remembering the name of some faceless youtube user I only spoke to once. We can't all be geniuses like you, Mr. Dictionary Man. Umm...kinda like you're belittling me right now? Because everybody who mocks the Great Goldsboro must need a dictionary and a spell-check, right? Maybe that's why Goldsboro's songs are so bad- only the pretentious snobs like you seem to like them. Oh, and you belittling me while calling me out for belittling someone else makes you a hypocrite, moron

  • @theSuperMetroid If you think I was belittling you for the heck of it, I apologize. I was belittling you because you were doing the same to someone else which I call bullying. As for being a pretentious snob, I drive a truck asshole! How pretentious is that? I have no more use for you! I've had my fun confirming that you are an idiot. BYE

  • Well that really brings it all full circle dosen't it? Pretentious means you act extravagant or important when you actually are not, so if anything you just proved my point. And I didnt bully that other guy. I harmlessly expressed my opinion, he overreacted to it and I defended what I wrote. Very similar to what happened between us. You bullied me calling me an idiot and a failure. Then you act like you're too good to talk to me and leave when really you ran out of insults. Again, hypocrital

  • @theSuperMetroid I have to begrudgingly give you some props. You are a worthy opponent. Just when I thought I was out, you drag me back in. As far as the Pretentious thing goes, I never acted extravigant or important, I just used big words. I believe that you were bullying. I haven't run out of insults, I'm just tired of spewing them. I still think you're a big Dummy. See how I Fisher Priced it right down for you. How's that for Pretentious?

  • Yeah, that's why you were acting like you had me all figured out and tried to be the defender of this crappy song. I don't give a shit what you believe. Anyone with a rational brain could see that I just said what I thought and you two drastically overreacted then cried bully when I called you out on your bullshit. I also could care less what you think I am. You stormed in here like you were this almighty know-it-all hoping to scare me away and all you did was reveal your own hypocrisy/stupidity

  • @theSuperMetroid hey you r pice f shit that should b flushed down!

  • @tommieparch No, please! Not with all the Bobby Goldsboro records!

  • @kencatfan01 Oh, and you do know that using "baby words" because you think I need them is just another way of showing your pretentiousness, right? And then you insultingly congratulate me on spelling hypocrite right when you cannot even spell "extravigant" right? See how stupid it is to check someone else's spelling/grammar now? It goes both ways, tough guy. Seriously, just stop now. This forgotten little song isn't worth you making an ass of yourself...again. :)

  • @theSuperMetroid I'm waving the white flag... You win! I hope it was as much fun for you to expose my stupidity as it was for me to expose yours! I'd really like to sit with you and drink a beer. You are ok despite our differences in musical tastes. I'm done. I'm going to eat some crow pie now.

  • @kencatfan01 Ok then. Well, enjoy your pie

  • @kencatfan01 And just because I dislike one fucking artist, apparently I hate Elvis and the Beatles too? Yeah that makes sense. If the dictionary man said it, it must be true. Seriously, don't insult those rock GODS by comparing them to someone as bland and obscure as Bobby Goldsboro. Oh and you're so totally right. Hating this one song means I'm a failed musician like using your psychoanalysis on me and utterly failing makes you a failed psychologist. See, it goes both ways old sport. :)

  • @theSuperMetroid I'm not so sure I failed but I do like bantering and disagreeing with you. It's kinda fun. PS I am a little bored!

  • @kencatfan01 Hey man, fine with me. You wanna believe a lie you can. Makes no difference to me- all you're doing in keeping this feud going is you're spamming the song you apparently care so much about, making you just as bad as I am. Scottie would be ashamed

  • @theSuperMetroid I just like showing that you are coming to a war of words unarmed!

  • @kencatfan01 Yeah, I got no word skills, please show me the way oh wise one!

  • @theSuperMetroid Nah, I'm done with you. It's been fun though!

  • @kencatfan01 Really? After being the inspiration for your youtube account I thought I had earned more time than that. Well you certainly told me a valuable lesson oh Great Wise One! I shall never mock the Brilliance of Bobby again! Your big words and in depth, well thought out character study of me has shown the errors of my own misguided opinions. I hope it was worth it, jackass

  • @kencatfan01 PS Asshole you had to click on "Bobby Goldsboro" so it's not just a random youtube video that you saw so in a way it is his music site. I can't stand idiots!

  • heres to the old man its been almost 20 years hope it was a good choice j

  • Bobby Goldsboro may be the absolute worst songwriter ever. I don't know what's worse, this or honey (another piece of garbage he wrote). Seriously, how the hell can anyone call this guy talented?

  • then why are you listening to it?

  • @EngagedatCamp To insult the hack at the source. Where else am I supposed to express my feelings on him?

  • Ah yes, because he's so gonna log on here and be insulted. Your maturity impresses me.

  • @EngagedatCamp I never said I expected him to read it. For all I know (or care for that matter) he's probably dead. And since when did it become immature to complain about something you find flawed or mediocre? And on top of that, if you find me so childish then am I really worth arguing with? I think deep down you know that this song sucks and that's why you can't bear to hear criticism of it. Because that only reaffirms the fact that you enjoy crap.

  • Hmmmm... I enjoy crap, you say. Maybe thats why I like talking to you :)

  • @EngagedatCamp Good one, dude. Well I surrender. You got me. There's absolutely nothing more I can say to you. You called me crap, therefore you must be the victor!

  • @theSuperMetroid I actually signed into this account to reply to the idiot "the SuperMetroid" Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and if you hate Bobby Goldsboro I honestly can't figure out why you're even on his music site, but get your facts straight. Bobby Goldsboro didn't even write "Honey" It was written by Bobby Russell. I hate idiots who disrespect people when they have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. Do a little research Super Idiot!

  • @kencatfan01 And I'm actually flattered that you created a youtube account just for me. I find it hilarious that one persons opinion could evoke such a strong reaction. Anyway, thanks for the info dude. Now when I criticize Bobby Goldsboro and his awful music I will be sure to clarify that he wasn't even talented enough to write his own music. So, thanks. Thanks alot. :)

  • @theSuperMetroid Let's hear one of your songs.

  • @Jcahalane You really want to start with me asshole? I just told off two of your misguided buddies about this. And seriously, so what if I can't sing? The difference is I don't try to. What kind of defense is that? Just because I can't make a song dosent mean I can't spot a crappy one when I hear it. So are you saying we should tolerate crap unless we can do better? That nobody can criticize a movie or book or video game unless they've made one themselves? We'd be living in a world of shit

  • @Jcahalane I rest my case

  • @theSuperMetroid Calm down dear.

  • @Jcahalane Don't worry, I am. Usually I fight with idiots like you but since you obviously have nothing to say I'm gonna block you. Enjoy your crappy songs old sport. Maybe one day you'll get some good taste.

  • buena cancion :0

  • "BRLFQ" spells Mom and Dad. (That always makes me laugh for some reason.)

  • The Simpsons FTW!

  • ty soooooooo much

  • Beautiful song.

  • Very clear and clean, brings back memories. Ya Im that old

  • Love this song. If any of you are "yes, dear" fans, it's included on the episode "Baby, Baby Not" (Season 6 Episode 14).

  • @tvguyisgreat no its not. Its on the episode "Jimmy The Teacher"

  • I heard it twice on the simpsons. One is the race cart episode and the other is the knockem Homer one

  • @ByakuyaZERO You mean "Saturdays of Thunder" and "I, D'ohbot".

  • my name is scott

  • When the boy turns 14, the title of the song will have to be changed to "Watching Snotty Grow".

  • Maybe that cold soul who can "watch Scotty grow," but can't take "Honey," ought to read the comments under "Honey," and see what it means to them and why. Is there such a thing as an emotional coward??? };-]

  • this such a classic..thank you for posting

  • I love this song!

  • BRLFQ spells mum and dad im dyslexic and i dont think thats write some how

  • I saw the same episode and did the same thing!!!

    Small world

  • just seen the same episode seen it before

  • His only good song. "Honey" has got to be the worst song ever.

  • If your son spells mom and "brlfq" he's probably autistic

  • Or he's four years old and doesn't know how to read yet.

By the way, you're a fuckstick.

  • just heard this on an old Simpsons episode.

  • Me to go Chief Knocka Homer!♥

  • @mwiafe exact xD lolol

  • same i just heard it right now and came on computer to get it. england is so behind on simpsons episodes

  • My father used to play this for me on his acoustic guitar when I was a kid (except he substituted JOHNNY for SCOTTY since my name is John). Damn, I'm starting to tear up just listening to it.

  • Nice song, bordering on being country, with a real life people message. We need more songs like this today instead of rap crap and hip hop flop.

  • "Ridin' on daddy's shoulders up to bed, old sleepy head" gosh I wish I could relive those days. Any father who ever was able to carry his son or daughter to bed like that will always cherish those memories. What a great song.

  • bobby goldsboro lived down the street from my aunt in dothan alabama. her daughter carla was good friends with the real scotty.

  • sweet song

  • I was named after it 38 years ago myself Cheapeasyshow. This is the first time I heard it myself.

  • wow just heard it in a simpsons episode...u know i needed to know who sang it...classic song

  • Cool. I heard it in an episode of Yes Dear.

  • what a great song, easy on the ears and a pleasure to listen to.

  • Sitting here in tears. I was named after this song and 37 years later I am listening to it for the first time.

  • my folks had this exact same record - i was never allowed to play it though

  • same here. my dad played this all the time for me. will always mean a lot.

  • My mom named me after this song..Cheesy I know but now that she has passed it means even more to me.

  • Ain't "cheeesy" don't ever think that.

  • This song is perfect for driving in the country
