  • His expressions are what explains the story the most. Amazing.

  • I Found DIetrich Fischer-Dieskau Singing Winterreise For A DOLLAR. Fucking Pop "Music" Dominating The market. Well At Least I Got It Now.

  • The accompanist is most likely Gerald Moore...

  • that kid was promised gold, clothes, a mommy, and girls.................he should of took that deal lol

  • @kiddie5433 Not sure if uninformed about what the Erlking is a metaphor for or just trolling...

  • @vwoxy1 lol its just death lol thats a small price 2 pay

  • I remember our music teacher playing this in 5th grade, and I had nightmares of the Erlking getting me. LOL

  • @SpencerRaySanders me 2! lol

  • It literally brought goosebumps all over me.

  • Beautiful

  • WHO is the pianist?

  • Just watching the pianist makes my hand cramp!

  • I wonder if Mrs. Knewman can see my post. YO WUZUHH!

  • Dat Erlkönig

  • Slenderman reference

  • They should make a law against aesthetic ideology.

  • A fine performance from both the pianist and the singer! Der Erlkönig is one of my favourite lieds, and I hope to perform it eventually, perhaps in our choir's spring concert if time allows. Fischer-Dieskau's version of this lied is definitely the standard to which all singers will be compared to; in songs like this it's important to not only perform accurately but also to understand the "heart" of the composition, which Fischer-Dieskau and the pianist do. :)

  • OMG I like this

  • "Erlkoenig" has nothing to do with paedophilia: it's about a dying child whose illness fills his mind with fantasies, while his father tries to reassure him. Erlkoenig is not a paedophile, but something even grimmer - Death.

I agree 100%+ with the praise for Fischer-Dieskau - he's the complete master, not only in this but in all Schubert songs (Mahler, too).

  • His face looks funny

  • The Elf-King sounds like a pedophile....

  • Fantastic interpretation!

  • This got shown to ne in music lessons... My god it is creepy.

  • chills

  • Amazing interpretation! I love how he changes expressions when he sings the different characters' parts. His Erlkönig expression is so creepy!

  • Bahaha . This Is Beeaaaat Lmfaaaao .

  • the original "Come Little Children"...in creepiness factor

  • thanks for subtittle now i understand the song much better

  • ok bad romance by lady gaga has 422,000,000 views or something and this has 37,583... i hate my generation totally and utterly

  • @krombee There is at least one more copy of this exact performance on YouTube. The other has over 450,000 views as of this writing. However, your point is still very valid.

  • nice melody for bed time

  • Who is the fine pianist?

  • @1yoyomama I believe it is Gerald Moore. I base that off the recording by Deutsche Grammophon (the label), catalog number 267361, which lists Gerald Moore as the pianist. Listening to excerpts of that recording online sound like this exact performance.

  • HOLY....GOD.....That was amazing! I only wish he would interpret all of his songs that way. That is storytelling at its maximum! WOW

  • Death is a pedophile.

  • Pedophiles and bad parenting.

  • @mwhinz If he does, the Erlking takes him away. ^_^

  • Das Kind war Tot.

  • Great performance!

  • This is an unbelievably moving piece. You can hear the galloping of the horse in the rhythm, the pain of the child when the Erl-king grabs him, and the horror of a father watching his son die in his arms. Such powerful emotions are evoked in this wonderful piece.

  • Is da best

  • Since when did Seth Rogen start singing opera?

  • its fun to see his face : )

    great composition anyway

  • everyone this song is about a myth called slenderman i warn you not to look it up becuase at the moment i am freaking the fuck out

  • @WINDXTOR94

O hai thar darrien :3 i KNOW YOU KNOW ABOUT ME, THE SLENDER MAN IS COMING FOR YOU!!!

  • @WINDXTOR94 lol, slenderman scares the hell outta me :)

  • @tallperson605 i dont know anyone who slender man doesnt scare

  • @WINDXTOR94 that slenderman shit is the dumbest stuff ever, a bunch of photo shopped pictures set to creepy music, and any video there is of the slenderman is shaky, out of focus, blurry, and basically of terrible quality. although, it does make for a good way to trip your brother out after you smoke him out for the first time lol

  • @WINDXTOR94 This lied or song is based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's poem. Not some 'slenderman'.

  • @WINDXTOR94 I hope you're trolling. Slenderman was created by a SomethingAwful user. It's original content. It didn't exist before 2006.

  • Dear God! That was amazing! Where have all the vocalists gone? I never see this kind of thing in society nowadays.

  • The pedobear from the past...

  • They should make a law that singing "Der Erlkönig" in public performance is prohibited except for Fischer-Dieskau. From many versions I've heard, other people just sing as one voice, where Fischer-Dieskau sings as FOUR VOICES, the contrast is exactly what the lied needs to be. Another more impressive thing is that you can just mute the sound and look at his face, you would understand what he's doing, as I remember NONE of the singers done this song can do it this good.

  • @tmtstudio1983 Bryn Terfel also sings this wonderfully, being the only other singer I've heard so far to create such a contrast between the four voices.

  • @tmtstudio1983 You're right! Fischer-Dieskau sings FIVE voices (i think there are two "narrators"). Nobody else can do that.

  • Amazing story tellers, Fisher-Dieskau and Moore! Thank you for sharing this.

  • 0:19 The face of a badass.

  • もうちょいピアノ激しい方が好きだな。

  • epic piece of music....

  • Who's the pianist?

  • @etnocnad The phenomenal Gerald Moore :-)

  • Listened to this in chorus it was our creepy music award for being good i sung this to my mom (english translation of course) she was sooo scared and now i am afrqaiad to go to sleep! Never listen to this at night people ok never at night!

  • love it! great piece!

  • that wasn't bad.

  • :D Listened to this in Music Theory class, had to hear it again!

  • What a brilliant contribution this gentleman-musician made during his long career to share fine music to a world audience in general but also his promotion of the baritone voice as a major solo tessitura not to be overlooked.
