I agree Skyman! I'm 65 and kind of lost interest in current music after the 70's and never paid much attention to Bruce but the minute I heard excerpts from this album, I ran out and bought it and I have gone and bought many of his previous other albums and I am a Jersey boy too!
I was never a big fan of The Boss until now. What an amazing performance. He has got what it takes that is for sure. This is now my favourite song of all time. The musicians were fantastic, especially the violinist. Lucky audience who were there for the live experience.
I grew up in high school during Born in the USA album and I never understood the appeal of the Boss. Maybe it's my tastes have changed, but I've also have exposed myself to his body of work, and now I think he is incredible!! I am a big fan of Bob Dylan too, and have seen him a few times in concert. Last year I saw the Boss for the first time, and let me tell you he is the most amazing life performer I have ever seen! I'm not the first that has said this! Bob Go see him! You'll be amazed!
yes well.....if i am retarded what is YOUR problem? at least i retain enough of my gray matter to not use profanity when writing a comment about a gospel song, i can write a complete sentence, and i still hold to my opinion. aretha and yolanda sing it the best, with soul and spirit. oh and i know how to spell retarded..........
it's all really a matter of opinion and taste in music. I would much rather listen to this version over aretha or yolanda adams. That doesn't mean theirs isn't good... it just means I like this style better.... oh and by the way this version is closer to the original arrangement than aretha & yolandas. He did it in the same arrangement as peter seeger that's the whole point of this album. God bless!
This southern folk song has been sung all over the world. Right now there are many pharaohs that need to be "drownded". Bush and Cheney come to mind as does Osama. I hope you have checked out the entire Springsteen album!
