Sheila E. does play other instruments (guitar both bass and electric, the piano/keyboards, and the violin) but she is strictly known as a percussionist.
I'm a Prince fan but I always refer to Sheila E. as the one who survived him. So many of his proteges got washed away into obscurity but her talent carried her through into legendary status. Long live Ms. E.!
yes she did steal that spotlight - and everyone was always happy for her! Love her, love her talent,a nd as sexy as she sometimes came across - her sweet personality always shone through!!
Rolling river God Little stones are smooth Only once the water passes through so, I am a stone Rough and grainy still Trying to reconcile this river's chill But when I close my eyes And feel You rushing by I know that time brings change And change takes time And when the sunset comes My prayer would be this one That You might pick me up And notice that I am Just a little smoother in Your hand
Always have loved Sheila's work, but have to agree with other's posts, this is poor choice of music...like a death dirge instead of an upbeat celebration...I was a bit shocked at first asI thought she had died or something.
Perhaps the finest female percussionist whoever graced the earth, with an impeccable resume of talented artists whom she has supported with her god-given ability throughout the years. A very talented, sexy, beautiful woman!
very, very, very pretty song! She has a wonderful voice and I love it when she sings a slower tempo song to show it well. "La Reina Del Timbal", God bless you Sheila for all these many wonderful years of entertaining us! PLEASE KEEP PLAYING!
I feel you. as I began watching this video thought ran across my mind "she hasn't died--has she?" I think its the song mixed with the slo mo and stills.
However, this is a really nice song by her and surprisingly I have never heard it before.
Her voice sounds REALLY good and well trained.
Its a shame she was never passionate about singing and never made a true effort to achieve solo success.
siempre recordare cuando vino a Chile, al festival de Viña del Mar en 1986, fue verdaderamente fantastica, realmente un talento maravilloso, espero verte de nuevo aqui en Chile
Why do people give credit to prince for sheila's success? the only thing he did was write the song to the Glamourous life". she did everything else to that song to make it a success. people think prince discover her as if she was from the projects or something. she was in the music business as long as he was and in the beginning before the purple rain tour he couldn't afford her because she was that good and demanded what she was worth. and by the way..sheila was director for his concerts.
I feel Prince pushed her more, gave her confidence. She and her whole band, heck, most of the protege's and musician peers Prince had around him at the time adapted a lot from him but made it their own. Everything from of course, the looks, the music, but the stage presence, the stage commanding and body-language. Even the sort of Prince way of slang!
Best drummer I ever saw , better than Gene Krupa and Cozy Cole twirling those multi colored drum sticks , throwing them up in the air and never dropping one or missing a beat in a 20 minute drum solo of Sing Sing Sing at the Nassau Colleseum in NY in the 1980s, totally awesome
The song that she sings in this video is sooooo beautiful. I love to listen to it. She's a nice lady in addition to being a GREAT musician. I believe she also played with the genius George Duke who I also love and respect.
GOD BLESS YOU SHEILA! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!
The finest "SexCymbal" ever made! True since of the word. To accent the beat within.
Sheila's best work was with Prince LIVE! I can't believe a man who used the internet to his advantage, will not let his "fanz/friends" used it to show his Greatness/Genius. It would be nice to see some of those AMAZING solos she did while playing for him. Maybe one day PRINCE will realize that YouTube would Help more than Hurt.
I had a video of the NAACP Awards 2005 of Prince,The Time and Shelia E. together. It was awesome!! Guess what? It got YANKED OFF by YouTube! I'm still pissed! I would have shared it with yall. Yall would've loved it! Peace!
Sheila E needs to be inducted to the RR hall of Fame. She is a versatile female drummer and composer and it is time for her to be recognized and honored.
Yep, he did - he gave Sheila co-writter credit but the reality of it is - he wrote it solo. Just like he gave all his groups co-writer cred to make them more credible to the public but he did it all solo. He wrote Nasty Girl solo - but gave Vanity the credit.
And a lot of songs he wrote under assumed names. Like Alexander Nevermind, Joey Coco, Jamie Starr, and Camille - they were all names he used when writing for people.
She's a gem! I love Sheila, because she always represented beauty, brains, talent and CLASS! Something that most of today's artist simply do not have. Add to that her compassion for others and she is just an angel!
Awesome tribute.... I LOVE that song too! Perfect selection. She has a talent that few artists today posess. And her work off stage for children is amazing. Truly and angel.
wow she is soooooo blessed with a magnificient talent and beauty way better than any singers nowadays..i feel sooo sad shes gone...the song makes me sad
Nice touch, using River God as the background song. This song has been my touchstone, for whenever I was feeling like my life was out of control. It calms me every time I hear it. :)

the jizz is that someone from her camp(or family) is the birth parent to Nicole Ritchie.
Could it be her?

This video's good but it has a sort of death feel to it. If I didn't know any better I would think this is an artist that's deceased.

How did Prince destroy them? Their greatest hits were with Prince.

he wrote and originally performed "Nothing compares to You" before giving it to Sinaed O'conner. It was her biggest hit as well.

Where is she today?
bootycall97 3 years ago
That is the dumbest comment I've ever seen . Sheena's biggest hit was Sugar Walls - written by Prince.
Sheila's biggest hit - Glamourous Life - written produced by Prince
Stevie Nicks - Stand back - biggest hit - written by Prince
Sinead O'Conner's biggest hit - nothing compares 2 u - written by Prince
Chaka Kahn's I feel for U - her biggest hit - written by Prince.
Shall I go on????
