@MrDeviantLord I've always taken it as onerepublic singing to someone that is afraid to let go of anything. They hold onto things like they need them and therefore are ruined when they lose them. I think the message of the song is that we shouldn't think we need so many things, even love! Things come and go... and if we accept that, then we are happier for it. That's how I've always seen it. Not sure if it's right though.
