Was the pig ever very nice to another man? It seems like it may have been a very nice pig, swine, as maybe it would occasionally give gifts to nurses or make appropriate phone calls on his best friend's birthday, or maybe the pig let an old woman have his seat on the bus one day, or maybe been very nice to others? If so, the pig was some sort of local hero who gave clothes to local starving children? The pig may have been nice even to one man, or woman, maybe by lighting a candle?
@ewillett07 lmao...okay but confining them like that for their lifetime, whatever period that may be...is fine...and keeping the other pigs like that...totally fine....
Theres more than just concern for piglets when it comes to intensive farming. Obviously you need to edu-ma-cate urself more :D
Do they ever pet the animals before hurting them severely? They could have a room where the animals are petted nicely maybe...Then after the severe hurting maybe they could pet them again, but maybe just pet around where the blood might be...or they could put a tube in there to take away the blood during the severe hurting. Then they could even pet them longer, or maybe pet them even where some of the red blood may be.
@workbootcollective lmao....did you ever say this to a butcher or anyone who has come into contact with an abbatoir/slaughterhouse before? They would laugh at you.
Having said that, you are talking about reducing stress before slaughter - something already taken into consideration with factory farms - because efficiency is important for profit you know!
Look up some of...shit, forgot her name, just look into the farms welfare concerns if you can, you will see some interesting developments
Tail docking can be avoided if pigs are given environmental enrichment such as more space and straw, so they are able to forage and therefore are much less likely to exhibit behaviour such as tail biting, which is a result of boredom and a frustration of foraging behaviour. Also, most British pigs are not castrated as they are killed younger so the boar taint issue is not necessarily true. You can find out more on the Compassion in World Farming website (link in video info box, top right).
Deaths of piglets where the mother is not in a farrowing crate need be no higher than those in a farrowing crate, where there is good management and the sows have been bred for their mothering ability. More information available on the Compassion in World Farming website (link in this video's information box, top right).
The reason the males are castrated is because otherwise testosterone gives the meat boar taint, a smell that would make you turn your head in disguest when your munching on your precious bacon. Cutting the tails off prevents the spread of disease from fecal matter and injury from having it bitten off; it improves the animals quality of life. How about you LEARN something about animal science before you go ahead and make ignorant accusations.
@britty231 Or in many cases, pigs go cannibal and eat the tails off themselves, get infections from close contact and lack of hygience and never get to "frolic", "explore" or show those awesome signs of "piggery" you would see if you had pigs in pasture - not intensive conditions
Just because it isnt drinking from the mother doesnt mean its the runt. The piglets drink when they want and sleep when they want. The reason the mothers are in those crates is because the number one cause of piglet death is because the mothers unknowingly smothers them, and by being in the crate like that she can stand up and lie down in a manner that lets the babies escape death.
There is nothing, NOTHING natural about the conditions of these animal's surroundings. Did you see the piglet lying aside while the others are feeding? That one is considered to be the runt. And it's fate? By STANDARD, factory farm or not, law allows it to be killed by having it's head slammed into a concrete floor. All others will have their tails cut off, males will be castrated... all WITHOUT ANY ANAESTSTHESIA!! In other words, they all go through unbearable suffering every day...

The sows. They love it. They love being inside in the heat. Some people blow it way out of proportion. People who have no idea about the job.
