The cobra has been done by MANY western aircraft, like the J35 Draken and I've read that the F/A-18 is able to do it. Now, after the cold war, the ability to do the Cobra is standard on most post war jets.

Even in one encounter in the Balkans a British Harrier pilot radioed to a US F16 pilot that the vehicles on the ground were friendly. The yanks bombed it anyway and killed 43 allied troops.

Usually used when out of ammo a pilot would close to a slower flying bomber from the back and clip the tail or literally cut off part of the enemy plane and then glide down to safety.

US ground troops crushed the world's fourth largest military in four days. US troops have always achieved higher kills with lower losses, even in similar combat theaters like Afghanistan. Russia lost 15,031 troops and +500 aircraft while the U.S has lost 1,449 troops and 73 aircraft in the same amount of time. I fail to see Russia's superiority.

Yeah, but the problem is most of them end up crashing or having their wings ripped off. besides, because the Flankers are so tail-heavy, it is much easier to pull a cobra on a Su-27.
I'm sorry, how? the only plane I've seen to do the cobra is the F/A-18 which was more of "I'll meddle with the AoA stabilizer, reduce speed to minimum and pull my nose up as in going in for a landing" scenario. Besides, the AoA on that is hardly more than 50-60 degrees, planes like Su-37 can take it to 120 degrees.

@TYREL2010 No it isn't, a typical tactic is to bank away and pop flares. Speed is what a pilot needs and the cobra bleeds speed. The cobra little to no tactical usage in a dogfight since most of it is BVR combat.
The F-14 can come very close to doing a full cobra, but it's mostly to flaunt the strength of the engines.
The Only US Non thrust vectoring craft that can are the more modernized F-16s and the Highly modified F-18's. And they can barely do it, and risk high structural damage.
Plenty of other allied craft can do it. From Saabs to Most anything from Dassault aviation.
But still risk major damage.
It's safe to say that anything in the russian fleet can Perform the cobra safe and effectively.

Even in one encounter in the Balkans a British Harrier pilot radioed to a US F16 pilot that the vehicles on the ground were friendly. The yanks bombed it anyway and killed 43 allied troops.

@w0y1z92753 there was VERY LITTLE NATO intervention in Korea(basically 97% of the fighting was done by the US), there was virtually no NATO assistance in vietnam(98% of the fighting was done by the US), and the US has been IN FRONT of NATO in the first gulf war, the iraq war AND the war in afghanistan(US fought over 90% of the battles in ALL those wars). so YES we have been in more wars AND more battles so OF CORSE there is a larger possibility of error, THATS JUST COMMON SENSE(or so i thought)!

Usually used when out of ammo a pilot would close to a slower flying bomber from the back and clip the tail or literally cut off part of the enemy plane and then glide down to safety.

@turus4 Actually the Americans don't fear the Su-27 at all. In fact, the Americans sell Su-27s to civilians. They know everything about the Su-27 and MiG-29. American civilians can buy them there. I know you're going to call me an idiot and say "that's not true!" So here's the name of the company who sells them. Pride Aircraft in Illinois, USA. You can buy just about every Russian fighter on the US general market. Its crazy. Maybe I'll buy a Su-35 from them in a few years.

US ground troops crushed the world's fourth largest military in four days. US troops have always achieved higher kills with lower losses, even in similar combat theaters like Afghanistan. Russia lost 15,031 troops and +500 aircraft while the U.S has lost 1,449 troops and 73 aircraft in the same amount of time. I fail to see Russia's superiority.

But if you want to go there keep in mind that Russia was head of the entire Soviet Union back then so they had help from many of their allies as well. Russians have a habit of using a technology decades after another country developed it, and claim they invented it (i.e. TV). They always have, and I am convinced always will do this. I'm sorry, how? the only plane I've seen to do the cobra is the F/A-18 which was more of "I'll meddle with the AoA stabilizer, reduce speed to minimum and pull my nose up as in going in for a landing" scenario. Besides, the AoA on that is hardly more than 50-60 degrees, planes like Su-37 can take it to 120 degrees.

Iraq had only 37 MiG-29s, statistically about 10% of the pilots are of a highest qualification, which implies there were only 3-4 experienced pilots flying MiG-29. They were greatly outnumbered each in aircraft, skill and level of support....even with all that older MiG-25s performed exceptionally well simply by outrunning the missiles. Says a lot about MiG-31 potential in the right hands.

No one denies the F-15 and F-16 are superb fighters. Their record is certainly remarkable...but fighting against Arab pilots in MiGs with the export avionics package. Americans forget that the ONLY time they fought against Soviet pilots was in Korea, a while ago yeah, and the Soviet kids taught you a tough lesson in their Mig-15s.

Igor Simarav and his men for months, yet were still shot down in the Gulf War. Also, a former fighter pilot of the egyptian AF (who later became president) admitted four of his Russian instructors were shot down by western trained IAF pilots in one mission. Western tactics always prove superior in combat.

@CrookedSmirk I'm not going to say that stealth is useless and a waste of funds, the gulf war in 91 showed that it definately has strong merits. However i dont believe that even modern stealth aircraft are the ultimate in air warfare. It reduces radar cross section but doesnt erase it, and its only a matter of time till someone finds another means of identifying and tracking before the whole cat and mouse resumes. Also if you shoot enough missiles at a seagull, you will kill it

@TYREL2010 No it isn't, a typical tactic is to bank away and pop flares. Speed is what a pilot needs and the cobra bleeds speed. The cobra little to no tactical usage in a dogfight since most of it is BVR combat.

I've seen an F-18 in person do a Cobra. If a Tomcat and an Eagle could do it I don't see why an F-18 or F-16 Can't. Even the Eurofighter can do it.
The cobra is a cobra plain and simple it doesn't matter if the russians can do it better or not.

The F-14 can come very close to doing a full cobra, but it's mostly to flaunt the strength of the engines.
The Only US Non thrust vectoring craft that can are the more modernized F-16s and the Highly modified F-18's. And they can barely do it, and risk high structural damage.
Plenty of other allied craft can do it. From Saabs to Most anything from Dassault aviation.
But still risk major damage.
It's safe to say that anything in the russian fleet can Perform the cobra safe and effectively.

Dude that is no Cobra! And when you do cobra move you can`t loose or get more altitude you need to stay on same altitude and amreican aircrafts can`t do cobra get that!
